Regulus never made it to the phone. There was no welcome for him as he crashed brutally to the floor. On hands and knees. His white shirt soaked through with lake water, spotted and slashed with pink and red darkening to crimson. Somewhere, before this violent entrance, he'd lost his coat and wizard's robe. They were probably floating unmolested to the bottom the lake, where Regulus expected to be. But he was here. But all he could see was white marble splashed with water. Coughing uncontrollably, he choked on air, but the struggle to breathe combined with the impact of arrival and instantly his stomach was forcefully rejecting the lake water he'd swallowed and the potion he'd ingested prior to being dragged into the lake all over that marble. Regulus retched desperately until his throat burned and there was nothing left for his stomach to expel. Still coughing, he scrambled away from where he’d been sick, but it was a desperate crawl because too many of his limbs hurt for various reasons. Before arriving here, he’d been in a cave, and in there he’d consumed a terrible potion, then in his delirium, he’d crawled to a lake edge, to quench his thirst and had inadvertently summoned an army of undead – inferi they were called. The potion had seared his mind, the undead in the lake had taken their toll on his body. He was sure some of his fingers were broken, there was the gash on his arm made in payment in order to enter the cave, a wrist felt it had been twisted too far… but not broken. Just sprained. There was that at least. Regulus kept moving back until he hit something hard and cold. It felt the same as the ground. He tried curling into himself, holding the parts of him that were in pain close to his body while he shook. He blinked away water and what he suspected was blood from a non-zero number of gashes above his eye line, but he didn’t have a mirror to check. He finally looked around. He was in some kind of strange lobby, but other than that, he had no idea where he was, how he ended up here, or what he was doing there. |
