Caduceus had been thinking about this for a little while. Since the morning after he'd arrived in fact, when he'd woken up curled around Caleb, with Caleb clinging to him just as enthusiastically. He hadn't ever- things were new for him. Everything was new. Feeling desire and desired, having an emotional bond bloom into something so beautiful was new, frightening, but wonderful.
He'd started thinking about the dinner he was going to make for Caleb almost as soon as he woke up, because cooking was, in Caduceus' mind, one of the only things he could do well. It was one of the only things he could offer to show how much he cared.
There was a vegetable pie his mom had always made on special occasions that Caduceus had also made many times when he'd lived on his own, a recipe he'd perfected over all that time, and a Zemnian apple tart that he thought Caleb might enjoy, hopefully. The grove hadn't been that far from Rexxentrum, all things considered, and so not too far from the Zemni Fields in the great scheme of things, so it wasn't unusual for one of the Clays to go there for a supply run. The apples here were probably not the same, but he would make do.
He found himself in the kitchen in the early afternoon, very much prepared to disappoint himself with his first few attempts, so he wasn't put off his stride when he discarded three vegetables pies and two apple tarts before he made something he was satisfied with. The ovens had been hit and miss to begin with anyway, but a little bit of experimentation got him what he wanted.
Luckily Caleb was elsewhere during Caduceus' two trips back and forth to bring both pies, the mashed roots side dish, and the sweet potato soup starter. Of course he was nervous, but he remembered his mom telling him when he was small, hanging around the hem of her apron, that it was good to feel nervous the first time you cooked for a person you liked a lot. It meant you cared, and that you were giving them something you had put all of that love into.
Here he was, hanging in that moment he had never thought he'd have, covered in flour- oh no.
He left a message for Caleb, certain that it would take a while for him to read it and pack up all of his things anyway, and then Caduceus dived into the shower.
