WHO: Lucius, Narcissa, Severus, Aziza, Draco and Blaise
WHAT: The most awkward play-date/fix-up
WHERE: At the Manor
WHEN: For Sunday roast on 9 February 1983
WARNINGS: There are children present, be decent!
If someone had sat Narcissa down and had her really sort out what her intentions were with Severus and Aziza, she probably would not have been able to articulate what he hoped to accomplish. Severus was sad, and he was always blue, as long as Narcissa knew him. The job at Hogwarts had helped tremendously, but he was reclusive in the castle. And although Narcissa never imagined Severus as the life of the party or the kind of person who needed a lot of friends and attention, he did need to leave his chambers on occasion and had to have a few people in his life.
Just as she was wondering who, Aziza mentioned a play-date. Perhaps it was too easy, but Narcissa managed to convince herself of vague parallels between the two. Aziza was never dull, and that might work for Severus. And she could make him up a little bit, which was sorely needed. And Narcissa considered both Severus and Aziza to be incredibly clever. Plus, Aziza was beautiful. What man didn't find her attractive? At the very least, she would distract Severus for a while. They could have fun together! It wouldn't even look like a set-up, because it would look like a play-date. Using the children as cover, hopefully inspiring paternal feelings in Severus.
Narcissa was incredibly careful with her instructions to the elves, the dinner spread she painstakingly planned was more than generous, it was over the top. She walked through the Manor with Draco, making final touches and arrangements in the common areas of their home. Draco held her hand and shuffled along, while Narcissa touched up a floral arrangement with her free hand. Lucius, it seemed, was in his study, and planned on staying there until their guests arrived. It was then that Narcissa heard someone at the door.
"Draco, did you hear that? Do you think it is Blaise?!" Narcissa looked down with love and excitement in her eyes at her fair son. "Will you please help me answer the door?"
"I will! I will!" Draco ran over to the front entrance, intent to do it himself, but was unable to budge the heavy and ornate front door. Narcissa stepped behind Draco and helped, letting him think he was doing all of the heavy lifting.
