Your Friendly Neighborhood Hospital Staff!
who: Bear, Micah, and open to Aisling and Keegan
setting: the hospital
Micah was in a good mood. He knew, he knew he should look before he leapt, but it was so easy to get swept up in Haru, in what he said, in how much he seemed to want to try. And Micah, well, he’d always been a little bit of a sucker. He didn’t let people into his life, didn’t get close and when he did, when someone forced their way in, he wanted to keep them at his side.
So he was feeling happier than usual, humming to himself as he worked, going over charts and finishing out what work there was to be done. He was still adjusting to such an abnormally healthy population, one that rarely had huge issues, just the standard, day to day sort of thing, minor cuts and bruises. It was a big step up from gunshots and car accidents. He finished another chart, tucking it away and reaching for the next when he heard someone coming down the hall. He paused what he was doing, waiting to see if someone would need him before he started on the next thing.
Bear knew he needed to meet the doctor. Plus he just wanted to, Bear was a social guy, so he headed in to the hospital even if there wasn’t any real reason to be there just then. It didn’t take him too long to find the guy, being directed around by robots. Which he was still getting used to.
When he spotted a human person, he smiled and walked up. “Hey, you’re the doc, huh?” he greeted. “I’m Bear, your second paramedic, and volunteer firefighter.” Then he paused. “Wait. I guess I don’t know if I still am here, but I guess I would be either way, I just don’t know if it’s official.” He smiled. “Pleasure to meet you.”
Micah raised an eyebrow before reaching out a hand with a smile. “I’m sure you get this a lot, but you are very aptly named,” he said. “Pleasure to meet you. I’m Dr. Worthington, but Micah, if we’re going to be working together. Where did you come from originally?”
Bear shook his hand. Then he smiled and chuckled. “I do,” he agreed. “And Micah it is. Originally, Ohio, pretty much the middle of nowhere, so I won’t bother talking about the town. Just some small blink your eyes and you’ll miss it town. What about you?” he asked, curious.
“I grew up outside of Chicago, but I went to school and was working in the city at an ER before I came here.” Which he knew was a drastic change when he said it like that. “Have you met Aisling yet?”
“Oh, hey, that’s a big leap,” Bear said, most definitely catching that. This place, it was so small so far, and Aisling had already filled him in on the fact that there wasn’t a lot that went on at all. “And yeah, I did!” he said with a big warm smile. “She’s great. She’ll make a great partner,” he said with confidence.
Micah looked around them and let out a breath. “It’s been an adjustment.” But the move had been necessary, maybe not to New Eden, but it had been time to leave. Of course, with the way things were going here, he couldn’t really be upset about it. “She’s very competent. You two should be very equipped.”
Bear chuckled. “Yeah, seems so. And if you’re bored, Doc, we should take up poker. You, me, maybe some robots, Aisling, whoever else works here… It’ll be great. Because this place seems like there isn’t a lot to do. And I’m all for being prepared, and being prepared means not sitting around doing nothing day in, day out.”
