If a scream of horror was enough to stop war, there would be no more war.

Given what we know about mankind, is it even wise to have children?

No matter how many books you read, no matter how much you live, there are some things in this world that you will never, ever understand. And perhaps you wouldn't want to.

This island is a prison. And my mind is one.

I'm not proposing some sort of mass sterilisation. I know that it is not literally possible. I simply wonder wha we are bringing children into. If they will resent us for the world we leave them. If it is cruel to make them endure this world.

It will be normal for them, they won't know anything different.

True enough. But how sad, to know only this.

No sadder than the people of my village in the 1500s, how much of the world did they know about? Humanity just is, Hemingway. When you get down to it we're just slightly more intelligent animals than the rest.

It just seems so pointless.

The way I see it you have two choices:

1) You can look at it as being free to do whatever you want without worrying about predestination. Anything at all.

or

2) Blow your brains out and save yourself another forty years of pointless existence.

Apparently I am predisposed to the latter. The readiness is all.

Well if you want to be a coward go ahead then. Predisposition doesn't mean you have to do something, I'd say the really hard thing is getting up each day and living.

Oi, and you: stop tempting him towards bloody suicide! He's got a daughter, barely a week old, on this island, right now....!

You know how many mortals I've seen whine about their lives? If he's going to complain about how pointless it is he needs to either suck it up and be a man who takes care of his family or go ahead and take the coward's way out.

Walk a few centuries in my shoes and then you can complain. God I don't know how Cassandra's managed to stay sane after a few thousand years.

I apologise, I didn't realise there was an age-restriction on it.

Look, I'm probably coming on too strong about this but you know what it's like watching the younger generation do things you know will end badly?

Try adding a couple centuries or tens of centuries to that and you'll get what I'm trying to say. I've seen the effects of suicide on those who are left behind, and it isn't something that only lasts 'but a short time'. If you absolutely think there's no other way then don't let me stop you, just don't fool yourself in thinking that there will be anyone who benefits from your death.

It's fine. I am aware that I am being melodramatic.

They're better off without me

You think it is cowardly to shoot yourself? When all of your natural survival instincts kick in and your whole body fights against it? Do we not keep on living because we are too afraid of death? I am not afraid of living and I am not afraid of dying.

How about having to be the poor souls who have to go on after their loved one chose to end his life rather than stay with them? That's hard. Pulling a trigger is easy, and yes it is the coward's way out.

You get a chance at a normal life, be courageous and live it. Death will come for you in it's own time eventually.

You don't understand. It is better for them. It is a temporary hurt.

This is not a normal life.
