I'm.. I'm not as altruistic as I pretend. I'm not as good of a person as I let others imagine me to be. It's a good feeling to be appreciated and admired, and I think part of my cowardice disallowed me to contradict popular opinion, no matter what direction it came from.

I have nothing against humans. My daughter, I argue, married one after all, and my grandson is was half-elven. But the truth behind that decision was not altogether because I thought it would make her happy. Though it did make her happy and for that.. I will always be glad.

But the truth behind Idril and Tuor is that.. there was a prophecy spoken to me that said from my House and the House of Huor the hope of men and elves would come. That a new star would arise and that birth would bring us salvation. I sacrificed my daughter to 50 years of happiness and an eternity afterward of pain, because I needed her son to be born, so that he could throw his life away to save us all.

Things are not always as they seem. And people are not what you imagine.
