Okay, so I am on this island now.... what is there to do around here? I still am not sure how I ended up here... I will never graduate and go to Yale....

Most kids who are adopted turn out completely fine. My friend, Jessica Jones, was adopted as an older child and still turned out great. I actually adopted several children, in another universe, who turned out to be great heroes. The new Captain America among them. And I've had plenty of other friends who were adopted when their parents died, or realized that they were not best able to care for them. Peter Parker, Spider-Man, was adopted by his aunt and uncle after his parents died. Alex Summers. Nightcrawler. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Bucky Barnes was informally adopted by the guys at his dad's army camp after his father died in an accident. He was... well, anyway that's a long story, but he ultimately turned out fine.

Superman was adopted. Anne Shirley was adopted. So was Cosette, from Les Mis. Heidi. Paddington Bear. Pollyanna. Barbara Gordon. Annie. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Fox Mulder. Luke freaking Skywalker. Harry Potter turned out awesome.

Some people have a harder time with it than others, but from what I can tell, as long as your kid knows s/he was adopted, s/he should be okay.

She's only three, so I am not sure she knows or not, but I am fine with whatever her mother tells her. Her mother wanted me and the baby's father to have some contact with her. We did. It's... it's a long story though, as to whether it was right or not.

Whether or not contact is good, and how much, is always complicated in an adoption situation. It's hard to know what's best, and I think growing up, it can be... confusing. But most of the time, I think kids who are adopted are just as functional as kids who remain with their biological parents.

I am glad, though, I did what was best for my baby. I wanted to make sure that she ended up with a mother who cares about her. And she has that.

Then you did the best thing you could possibly do for her. You wanted her to be happy and safe with a mother who loved and wanted her, an you gave her that.

I did. And she seems very happy.
