Special, as a word, I've always thought, can be just as positive or negative as most words -- and perhaps most of all, the word unique. To exist above, beyond or outside the norm is never an option, rarely a desire. To be special is to be hated, it is to disappoint, it is to persevere for change and enlightenment, it is to teach, to learn and to lie.

William Carlos Williams once said that poets 'are damned but they are not blind, they see with the eyes of angels.' and I believe that this is true for anyone who is extraordinary. It is a gift as it is a curse, you may exceed all expectations but your own -- or none.

I think that's why I've always liked knitting.

It's a special sort of foolishness that makes a man tell others how extraordinary he is.

As long as you aren't clamoring to be the exception to the rule.

Gosh, you sound familiar somehow...

I'd love to learn to knit, myself, though... I've never had the time or the patience for it -- possibly even both have been lacking in me, rather...! Heh! But now I'm seem to be on a permanent holiday here... maybe I COULD learn...!

I'm Parnel Jugson, sir... And you are...?

Sir...

Just... WOW!

I'm sorry, sir, but - you look so much younger than the last time I saw you...!

I mean, hallo to you too, sir...! Heh...

I'm well, sir, thanks very much...! And...how are you faring, sir? I mean, other than at least fifty years younger than when I last saw you...?

'Special' is a word so vague as to be useless. Men have characteristics that are valuable to variable degrees. Some combinations are more useful; others, less.

You are valuable.

Say rather, accurate. "Good" gets more than its due.

Of course he is, sir...! I doubt anyone in Britain or greater Europe would doubt that, after all he's done for them! Even he himself would be loath to doubt his own self-worth with all the good he's wrought...

People have an infinite capacity for underestimating the services they've been rendered, but no doubt you are correct. He is only occasionally given to wasting his time on modesty.

Oh, indeed, I don't doubt That sir...! I mean, just with the war alone... Well, both wars, really... The one against Grindelwald, and the one against Lord Vold-- er, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named...! I mean, Dumbledore should have been able to bloody well retire on his laurels, after all that... but still, last I heard, he was still protecting Hogwarts for all our children... Well, not MY children, given that I don't HAVE any yet, but...

Well, usually when someone's going on about some profound topic or another they don't usually close out their article or post with such an abrupt change of subject.

Unless you're trying to tie knitting into people's expectations and being above, beyond or outside the norm? It's still abrupt but at least it would make sense, kind of.

I've never been very good at keeping to a schedule, too absent-minded for it I believe. It's one of Gellert's complaints, at least.
