You know, I've never been to a baseball game before.

Why not? They're kind of fun!

British. Only time I've spent in the states has been work-related.

Oh. Well I don't follow sports or anything but it's fun to watch a game and watch everyone else get into it. And there's usually very hot men there too.

I'm new here so I don't know if this place has any baseball games to watch but if they do, you should go watch one.

It doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to follow. Rather like cricket. Or- Rounders.

Oh, well- welcome, then. I'm James.

I know it sounds odd, but sometimes there are doors on the island that lead elsewhere. As far as I've gathered, you can go through the door during the time period stated on it, but you can't remain there once the door closes. You'll be pulled back to the island. Anyway, there is currently a door that leads into a ballpark in Texas.

Rounders for adults. Played whilst wearing pyjamas.

Pyjamas?

Oh! Ha ha ha!

[...]

Wait, you're SERIOUS!? Ha! That's almost as funny, really: the idea that men actually play a sport that involves LITERALLY running about in their pyjamas!

Have you seen the uniforms?

No, no, I'm afraid I haven't...! I mean, I've seen Quodpot uniforms, once, when I was travelling in America, trying to track down a suspect, but -- well... No, no American baseball uniforms, rather...!

Nice to meet you James. I'm Penny.

I heard about the door that leads to Texas. I might go check it out. I was interested in seeing if I could use it to go home.

How long have you been here?

Lovely to meet you, too, Penny.

I don't know that it will let you go home, but there's no harm in trying. Maybe you can visit. I'm not certain.

Oh, quite a while now. About six months.

With the door to Dallas open you should indulge. Much faster than a cricket match, they usually run about two and a half hours, maybe three.

It definitely would be. I think several of us are going to a game this weekend, maybe Friday night. Should be fun.

Really? How could not have seen a baseball game? Not to be rude, but have you been living under a rock? Baseball is awesome though. You should check one out sometime. I'm sure you'll love it.

Damn, not everyone's American, you know. And not everyone's from a time they have baseball games either. We sure ain't having them in my day. Be a damn shitty place to be trapped by Walkers.

Can't say I've ever really seen one either. Never had the money to go to a game, and I sure as hell wasn't staying in the house with my dad any longer than I had to.

Well, how about I treat you both to a baseball game then? Apparently there are games going on in Texas with going through the door. If you don't like it ill cook you both dinner for a week? I'm a pretty good cook.

I'm Melinda Halliwell by the way.

That would be lovely. Apparently there is a game on Friday evening, if that would suit you? Dinner won't be necessary- there are restaurants through the door, we could go and get some dinner there.

It's a pleasure, Melinda. I'm James Bond.

Oh.....well, I apologize. I was just kidding about the living under the rock thing and being sarcastic. I know they have cricket in London, isn't it almost the same as cricket?

It's close to under a rock, admittedly. Yes, apparently. We used to play Rounders at school, which is similar.

Aw! I wouldn't call London living under a rock, really! I mean, it's a pretty major metropolitan area, isn't it?

Ah I see....! Ha ha ha!

But all the same, well... I really wouldn't want to make that joke to an American, for fear that they'd take you seriously, too... I mean, at least this lady you're talking to knows OF London well enough to know of the city, but you never can tell when someone ELSE might be a little more ignorant...! Heh!

Anyway's, I take it you're from London-town, then? I'm from Cornwall, myself, originally, but -- well, I moved to Lambeth to be a little closer to my job.

[info]double_0_seven

I simply meant that it might as well be under a rock when it comes to baseball. There are also residents on the island who come from worlds where London doesn't exist at all.

No, I'm from Scotland, although I was educated at a boarding school in England so I lost the accent.

Ah! I see...! Well, I'm sort of the opposite: I was English -- well, Cornish I suppose -- educated in Scotland, but... well.. I never really picked UP an accent (save for mine own, of course!) because most of the students were from England...!

It's nice to make your acquaintance, Mr...?

Indeed, I suppose so...! I mean, what are we talking about "making sense" again, sorry...?

Nice to meet you, Mr Bond... I'm Parnel Jugson... Auror Parnel Jugson, to be precise! Sorry, I'm new to this island, if you haven't figured that out already...

Why you would keep your accent, and I would lose mine.

Good to meet you, too. And yes, welcome.

Ah, yes, of course...! Sorry for being so damned thick...

Anyway's, thanks very much, Mr Bond...!

Say, I don't suppose you know of where I might find a place to stay...? I mean, the cafe booths are a little cramped, really, though they are nicely padded... that is to say well -- I've been sleeping in the cafe, the past couple nights, and whilst it was fun at first, like a sleepover, or a campout... Well, it's sort of getting old now...! Heh!

Yes, have you seen the two tall apartment buildings? They're two of the few buildings with electricity. You can find an apartment there. There are many that are still empty.

Ah, those are apartment buildings? Boy, do I feel thick. Again! Heh! Sorry, Mr Bond, sir...!

So... I could have an entire apartment to myself? Really? That sounds like a dream come true, really...

Maybe I WILL like being stuck here on this island, without so much as my bloody passport! Ha!

[info]double_0_seven
2013-06-25 09:58 pm UTC (link)
Yes, they are apartment buildings.

Certainly. They are rather spacious. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a combination living room/kitchen area.

It's not the worst place to find yourself trapped, no.

Four bedrooms? For serious? What on EARTH will I do with FOUR damned bedrooms...?

And -- two baths...? Honestly, that sounds like Heaven, really - but maybe I'm only saying that because of my whole boarding school experience...! Heh!
