I understand your position that life has inherent value and thus you seek to sustain it. But in the case of the dragons I must ask questions that you have not. You vote to keep these dragons on the island without understanding the weight of that decision.

So answer:

1. Where are you housing them.
2. How are you feeding them, and how will you sustain that feeding when you run low on herds?
3. Who has skill with animal husbandry? Do you have a realistic estimation for the length it will take to cultivate a sustainable herd with the single purpose of feeding three, full grown male dragons?
4. What will be done in the event a gold female arrives? They will breed and they will bear a new clutch of eggs that will grow to adult size. I am told somewhere between 20 and 50 new dragons each year.
5. If it becomes necessary, who will put them down?

1, I reckon we'd ask F'nor, F'lar and F'lessan what sort of place they'd need for the dragons to live in, and work from there. I don't exactly know what a Weyr is, but I'm sure they'd help. I don't think they'd like living in the city.

Ikrans nest in the mountains when they're wild, but roost in trees once they're tamed. They're a lot smaller than these dragons, but I'm just pointing out, there's all kinds of options.

2, Do dragons eat fish? There's a whole lot of ocean out there. Which ties in with 3. Plus there are forests of all kinds on this island. So, no, I don't know offhand.

4, How long do dragons take to grow?

5, I would guess that would be up to the Dragonriders.

I do not think that the city can sustain a dragon. There are no buildings large enough to house them. If they choose to roost in the mountains then they will be near my home, and we are not friends to dragons.

I am certain their riders may get them to eat it if they must. But it isn't a sustainable solution. I want to find answers for the long term, not until we have another problem. Hence the desire for someone to take up the task of animal husbandry. None of my people have that skill and so cannot do it ourselves.

I am told anywhere between 2 and 3 years, but that depends on the length of a 'Turn' for the land called 'Pern.' Realistically speaking, none of us knows until we have a dragon born and grown here.
