I understand your position that life has inherent value and thus you seek to sustain it. But in the case of the dragons I must ask questions that you have not. You vote to keep these dragons on the island without understanding the weight of that decision.

So answer:

1. Where are you housing them.
2. How are you feeding them, and how will you sustain that feeding when you run low on herds?
3. Who has skill with animal husbandry? Do you have a realistic estimation for the length it will take to cultivate a sustainable herd with the single purpose of feeding three, full grown male dragons?
4. What will be done in the event a gold female arrives? They will breed and they will bear a new clutch of eggs that will grow to adult size. I am told somewhere between 20 and 50 new dragons each year.
5. If it becomes necessary, who will put them down?

Certainly, hence the discussion I undertook and now bring forward for all opinions to be voiced.

There are plenty of creatures large enough in the sea for them to eat, I've had to defend myself from predators there that were three times my size in my mer form. As long as they don't turn their nose up at seafood and don't try eating me I think we'll be all right on that score.

Housing them is also the responsibility of their riders, but there is an entire city that has barely a hundred souls. I think lodging will be found.

If a female dragon arrives then we will deal with the situation then.

I will defend the city by dispatching the dragons if it becomes necessary to do so, in the event they will not listen to reason and cannot be subdued in any other way.

Indeed, but how many of them are there? I would prefer to have a herd and herdmaster dedicated to the cultivation and feeding of dragons. A long term, sustainable solution.

They are upwards of 35 meters in length. They cannot be housed in any building in the city with comfort.

'Dealing with a problem then' is not finding a sustainable solution for the now. I would not want to scramble for a solution when we have one in place and prepared for them before it happens. That way there is no more argument and everyone is aware of what will be done.

The dragons are sentient beings are they not? Perhaps they will have a solution to the population problem in the event a female arrived on the island. We could ask them, as a first step.

I agree it needs resolving, but it does not seem one that needs it to happen immediately.
