I'm planning on doing some trade deals through the door, it's a market I'm familiar with.

Is there anything that you need, that might be acquired in France, 1783?

If not, I will turn it to gold for future doors, but I wanted to speak to you first as people who offer services, or have shared plans that will help the whole community.

There have been a few mentions of needing lumber, so building supplies in general might not be bad. Other that that I can't think of anything really that 1783 would have. The technological boom isn't going to hit for another couple hundred years.

Personally? If you see a particularly cute dog or cat, or both, I'd be particularly beholden is that the word? to you, if you could help me out? It'll keep my girl from being too mad at me when I don't take time off.

Sugarcube, I don't actually know what 1783 France would have. So I'm not sure what to ask for. Maybe take some of the yearlings and see if you can trade for some males? Rob might need some stuff? He'd probably have a better idea of what there is to offer too.

I’m trading sugar because I know how that works and I only have two weeks to get the deal completed.

But if this Rob guy knows his livestock, I can at least point him in the right direction and offer guidance.

Oh, well... I'm not sure how trading on earth works, but I could teach you livestock if you like?

Well I’ve done some trade in livestock before - buy the weakest animal cheap, put them out to pasture and get them healthy, resell for a big profit - but with only two weeks I think I’m better delegating this task to Rob and focusing on the sugar.

Oh, this wouldn't be for a profit, it would be for the herds we have now. To prevent inbreeding in the future. Basically you'd trade critter for critter.

Yes, I understand that, I was just explaining what experience with livestock I did have.

I will delegate to Rob, and offer support in translation and bookkeeping. He’ll know the better deal when he sees one.

Alright, that works. But that's the only thing I could think of that I knew that they might have. I don't know Earth agriculture that well, as far as what grows where, all I have grown here I had seeds for from the Island, or from seeds from my own farm on Equestria, from when we had a door or two there. Or as presents from Tony.

That's an excellent idea.

I've attached a list of medicines and supplies that should be available in France of this time. I've put them in order with the most needed items at the top.

Thank you for doing this.

Hey, I’m sure it’s the least I could do.

I think I'm okay for supplies for my classes, and I can always get genetic samples from any crops or livestock you manage to get.

I might check with you in a couple of days to see what sort of goods people are actually trading. I always like to get gifts for Sarah through the doors.

Thank you for asking.

Cool.

I have the equipment, but I can use plants and/or seeds. I'll ask Belle and Adam if I can borrow from their kitchens too.

The plants that will work best are: lettuce, spinach, berries - especially strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, peppers especially bell peppers, cucumbers, beans, tomatoes, kale, grapes, celery, cantaloupe, radishes, watermelon and cabbage. If you can find any of them, that would be great.

Sookie.

Fantastic list, thank you. I’m roping in Mr Duncan for negotiations on buying seed wholesale, so I’ll be sure to share this list with him and see if we can get a good deal on anything.

You wouldn't be able to get ammunition for my rifle in this time, or any of the hunting equipment I'm used to. Maybe bow and arrows for Jake?

Wooden cutting boards would be helpful.

You might want to get some supplies for Lacey's restaurant. I know she cooks some French dishes.

I’ll try for both. Actually, I’ll speak to Jake and let him pick his own. Which Jake is it?

Cutting boards I can do.

That’s good to know, I’ll add her into the message.

Chocolate is always good if you can find it, it'd probably just be the beans or raw mads at this point, especially in a smaller village like this, but I can work with those. Coffee and tea are good too.

Butter can be good, I can make it but it takes a lot of our dairy.

Any kind of fruit AJ doesn't have that I can either preserve or jam and we can save the seeds.

Preserved and processed meats, the kind of things I can put on sandwiches when we're low on the more fresh meats. Hard cheeses too.

Nice wines, brandies, fruit liquors, I use in some sauces and nicer desserts, they're good to have on hand.

A lot of it is low priority, especially considering how short of a time we have, I'd say focus on the chocolate and coffee, they're the things we go through quick but are hardest to grow and process here.

I've also been building up some stores of dry foods in one of the empty restaurantsat the food court, anything that lasts a long time without refrigeration or freezing. We're well off now but if something goes wrong with the biodomes or we ever end up with some kind of blight on the crops I wanted to make sure we'd still have things. I've got a good amount of rice and some grains but things like dry beans, dried fruits, cereals would be good to have more of.

The chocolate is going to be a tough one in this era. Coffee beans is a possibility, the French love their coffee.

I'll take a list, see what else I can get for you. Or is it easier if I just give you a cut of the profit and you can go shopping? You got any French?

I speak French. How about this, focus on the coffee and then whatever else the others need, if there's any cash left after I'll take some. In the meantime I can do some of my own. Pastries and bread trade almost as well as sugar.

That sounds great, I know a little of the coffee trade around this time, so I'll head to the port and see if I can work some magic for you.

[backdated to after Hamilton added her]

That's a lovely offer. I'll be honest. I don't know this time at all, so keep that in mind.

Off the top of my head, the cafe could use potatoes, mushrooms, tomatoes, garlic, onions and olive oil. Since it's France, wine, cheeses, fleur de sel, if that's not too pricey to ask for.

Herbs would be nice. I can send a list of those too, if it's not too much to ask for.

Lacey.

Ms Burrows,

I’ll see what I can do. I would give you the cash directly like i have offered to Bucky, but it may not be easy for a lady to get the best deal in this year. I hope you will not take offense to to suggestion, I’m trying to be practical. I’m happy for you to come shopping with me and I’ll haggle for you, if you’d like. Otherwise I’ll just bring back what I can from the list.

Call me Lacey.  No offence taken.  In my day, I'd bring a guy along when I went car shopping.  This isn't that different - all part of getting the best deal possible.

A shopping trip together sounds great. Anyone else coming along?

Lacey.

Sure. The informality with the ladies is taking some getting used to.

That's perfect. I have my son Philip with me, and I'm translating for Liberty. Is that okay?

For me, it's the opposite. We were very informal back in Dog River.

That's okay!
