It has come to my attention, that two people were shot... Because we are afraid of each other. Even if that wasn't the reason, I feel it is long past time for a "town-hall" meeting. It has been years, enough years that I don't think, besides a handful, that any of you attended the last one we had.

I would like to see every single one of you in attendance, young and old, men, women, children, and in between. There is a large amphitheater classroom in the University that will seat everyone, and then some, comfortably.

We do not need to be afraid of each other here, because I don't doubt there will come a time that we well need each other, again. I'm not being dramatic, but I'm talking life and death need, not just because one or the other has a useful skill that would make life easier.

So please, help me end this, and bring us all together again.

Edit: There will be drinks and snacks.

I had a friend here that tried to make them a regular thing. Boy do I wish he were here right now.

It's easier when they're regular. Extraordinary meetings get people all riled up because they don't know what to expect.

You're doing fine. The drinks and snacks will get people in.

I'm feeling horribly deflated.

It was my ex-wife's idea.

Don't. You've had one person complain and say he's not coming, and there are always people like that. That isn't a bad outcome.

If I show up and it's just the two of us there, then you can be deflated. But I think you'll have dozens.

Yeah, but you like, and respect, that one person and you hope that they like and respect you enough t It just made me remember how bad I am at this.

I guess you have a point.

If you were bad at it, you wouldn't be trying to do it.

Would it make it better or worse if I told you about some of the crazy things that have happened at Rican meetings?

Yeah, but when you were faced with town-hall greatness...

I don't know. I'd go for a little crazy I think.

Okay, so you can consider your town hall meeting a success if you don't have any of these speakers:

- someone screaming about her partner breaking contract and having a child with another woman and demanding that the colony sanction them both.
- someone talking in a monotone for two hours about his pet project and why it deserves morec resources.
- an argument about what kind of guns are allowable in the meeting-room.
- someone using up all the meeting time reading out irrelevant satirical poems because his neighbour was next on the speakers' list and he didn't want her grievance heard that day.
- a very heated debate over allowing a child to vote in which everyone had a different idea about citizenship.
- cows wandering into the room

I think if the cows feel they're up to the hike to the third wheel from the bio-dome, they're welcome to be part of the meeting.
