How do you know if someone is real or a Polyjuice Man?

Uh, well, I don't know what Polyjuice is, but if they don't go bursting through your wall saying: "OH YEAH!" You should be fine.

Why do you ask?

Did someone burst through your wall like that?

I ask because I want to know the answer!

No, kid. I was making a joke. Uh... There is something here called the "Kool-Aid Man." He bursts through walls to give kids a delicious fruit drink. I.. I was just making a joke.

But, what is the Polyjuice Man?

That would be funny! A man bursting through the wall and yelling OH YEAH just for juice.

The Polyjuice Man looks like somebody you know but he is really somebody else in disguys.

It is, man! They used it in commercials to sell juice.

Someone in disguise? Through magic? Do you not know how to dispel that magic or see through it? Or make an item can let you see through it?

Was it a little moving drawing on the side of the bottle?

No I don't know that much magic. I'm seven. But I found some tests that work!

Yeah, they used that as well. Do you know what Television is?

I've been learning about magic since I was five. I can help you, if you want?

Wait... We haven't introduced ourselves. Hey. I'm Reeve Adler.

Is Television how you can say spectacles in Latin?

I've been learning magic since I was four!

How do you do Mr Adler? I am Sirius Black.

Uh.... Maybe? I'm not very fluent in Latin. But that's not what I'm talking about.

Awesome! I'm 21 right now, maybe I can help you a bit.

Doing grand, bud. But it's Reeve. Mr. Adler is my father.... Haha, kidding, my Dad's name is Blank.

Learning Latin helps you get better at magic. What are you talking about then?

Do you mean you want to call you Mr Reeve Adler? If you don't like that I can just say sir.

Do... You need a language to use magic?

I'm talking about movies, shows, entertainment.

Reeve works, my friend. Please, just call me Reeve. No need for formalities like that.

Yes, for the incantations! Do you not use them?

I have been to see plays before. My favourite is The Portly Ghost.

Isn't that rude because you're my elder?

No, the form of magic I use doesn't call for incantations. My grandparents have another form of 'magic' that uses Dragon words, though.

Heh. It's funny, my mom's a ghost. But, hey come meet me at my dad's theater. I'll show you some movies. [Gives directions]

I guess? But, I'm not really one for etiquette. But please, just call me Reeve.

What are dragon words? Are they like roars?

Oh I am sorry she died. I have to ask my uncle if I can go there. I'm not alowed to go on my own.

Kind of, yeah? You'd have to ask them, to be honest.

What? No, no... My mom is a ghost. Why does every.... Gods, no, I know. It's hard to explain. But, she isn't dead. She's a ghost, and my dad is human. It's a whole thing.

And yeah, bring your uncle, it's all good!

The word television comes from Ancient Greek τῆλε (tele) 'far', and Latin visio 'sight'.

I thought so! It is out of video videre - to see, isn't it? But I thought it was wrong to mix up Latin and Greek like that.

It's very common in the English language, to borrow from the classics and mix them all up like that. It's good to have a smattering of Greek as well, although Latin is more important where you are from and for your particular needs.

I think at school the oldest boys can learn Greek if they are very clever but you have to be very very good at Latin first. I learn about Greek wizards when I study arithmancy instead!

Are there any little bottles or vials sitting around, or maybe a clump of loose hair? Or, is the person drinking something regularly? You have to drink it every hour, right?

Who is being a polyjuice man?

[info]littlesirius

All the potion bottles are in his study and I'm not alowed in there.

Uncle Arcturus is suddenly very old and being suspisius saying Siri you don't have to eat vegetabels if you don't want and we can skip arithmancy lessons and play outside. I think it is not him. Maybe something bad happened to my real uncle and we have to save him!

Ah, okay. No, that's your uncle. I was talking to him earlier.

This place is a bit magic, and it likes to change things around sometimes. The first time I spoke to your uncle, it had made me be six years old. And a few weeks after that, I was nineteen. I think that was when you arrived. But then it stopped, and I'm back to being myself again.

Thank you, O'Hara. I should have been more careful about my 'suspicious' behaviour. He's a perceptive boy. Quick-thinking, too.

Not entirely fair, though. Your 'test' is much easier than mine!

You're a clever boy, Siri! You are quite right to think carefully about these things, and I'm glad to know that if I really were in trouble, you'd notice, and you'd know to ask for help.

Ask me anything you like. Any test you can come up with - and I shall take you into the study to look at the potions if that would help.

You can say Costelin's line.

All of it with no mistakes.

You can't recite that without Alright. I'll do that, as creditably as if I had Costelin himself looking over my shoulder. No polyjuiced impostor would go to all that trouble. It takes a long time to learn.

That's a really interesting question, and you sent me hunting through my old textbooks to see if there is an obvious answer that I'd missed.

You're onto the trick now though - ask questions, it's the quickest way to find the truth.

Are you okay?

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]littlesirius
2022-02-16 02:41 pm UTC (link)
Yes, I think we will be alright now! Uncle Arcturus recited the line and he only made one mistake but I think I will let him off with that because a Polyjuice Man wouldn't know any of it.

It's important not to go with someone unless you know for sure they are who they say they are. Did you find any other ways, in the textbook?

Good. That's good. You're very sensible, that's very true.

No, other than keeping them captive until the effects of the potion wear off.

We couldn't do that! If you did and you were wrong then the person would be so cross.

I think your uncle has proven himself, but sometimes you really can't be too careful. If they are who they say they are, usually they understand why it was necessary, and they don't stay cross for too long.

If you're sure. I never had to test it out before but I think they would be. Grandfather would be espeshally cross and say Sirius you are an insolent boy if I asked him.
