So, I guess this is a thing, right?

Hi everyone. Peter Parker here, and since a trusted friend told me secret identities aren't a thing, I should let you know I am your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

Uh... I can't wait to meet all of you!

Hi.

Friendly neighbour spider-man sounds better than gives up homework spider-man.

Yeah.

Did you think kids like homework?

Yes. I liked homework when I was a kid.

You might be the only guy that needs to pay more attention to Richie.

There's all the stuff Richie says about homework and homework is bad for our health.

Do you believe the rest of the stuff Richie says?

About homework? Yeah. It is boring and it does take up our free time.

There's other stuff too. It gets kids stressed out and that makes them sick.

I meant in general.

If homework is getting you stressed out, then we either need to do more revision in class so that you definitely know how to do whatever the homework's about, or we need to have a talk about putting too much pressure on yourself.

Not in general.  I always call him on it when he's being an asshole.

If a person definitely knows how to do it in class, then what's the point of doing it more at home?  And what about people who don't know?  They don't want to be the dipshit that's holding up the rest of their friends the class.   And kids need free time to have with friends, and ride bikes, and all that stuff too.  Especially since the station keeps fuck doin' weird shit.   There's so much shit to worry about.   We gotta be able to have some fun or our heads are gonna explode.

The point is to practice.
If someone doesn't know any of the topics we cover, then they can speak to me, like I've said plenty of times, and I'll go over it with them for as long as they need it. And it isn't holding up any of the class given that Lyla can teach the rest of the class while I work on a one-to-one basis with whoever might need it.
The homework I assign doesn't take up all your free time, Eddie.

[Eddie]

Do you need/want me to go over anything from any of our classes? It doesn't mean you're a dipshit if a topic just hasn't clicked with you yet.

If you're doing it wrong, then you're practising the wrong thing and you don't know it until the next class.
Were kids really different in your home?   No one wants to be the kid singled out.  And no one likes homework.
You're not the only one that gives us homework.  And there's other stuff we got to practice.  And we got to worry about all the bad shit that can happen here and get ready for it.

Private

There's a lot of stuff we're learning that's different from what my  Sonya from what I learned back home.

If you're doing it right, then it's practice. If you're not doing it right, then it highlights to me that we need to work on that topic a bit more. Which is the entire point of homework.
I don't know, I went to a school where we all got one-to-one teaching a lot.
I know I'm not the only one that gives you homework. That doesn't mean I'm going to stop giving you homework.

Private
That's bound to happen, simply because you went to school 100 years before I ever did, and methods and knowledge will have changed during that time.

I can set up one-to-one sessions with everyone, so nobody feels singled out, and when it's your turn you can let me know exactly what topics we need to work on.

Are you sure that's the entire point?
I went to a school where people that got one-on-one were either called teacher's pets or idiots.  And then they got beat up.   And it wasn't even their fault that they were behind 'cause they had to miss a lot of school when they were "sick" sick.
So you see how homework takes up a lot of free time?

Private

It was also a school on a different planet!  And everybody's from different places and times.  How are supposed to know if the shit we're learning is right or if it's other shit that's right?

That would be okay.  As long as it's okay with everyone.  Ben's really good at learning on his own.   And Richie and Bill too.

Ha. I am a teacher, too. But, I'm probably not going to give you as much homework as Miguel, if I'm allowed to teach.

I taught Science at my old High School for a while. Given my other life I never really gave out homework.

Less homework is an improvement. They'll probably let you teach. It's not like they can ask you for references. They just gotta take who's here.

That's cool.

Glad to know that, I'm more of a teach as we go kinda guy, I was never a big fan of homework, myself. So, don't expect much from me.

Yeah, it was nice teaching kids who lived in my area. I did my best to be good to them.

May I ask your name?

A teacher that doesn't like homework?  That's even cooler.

I'm Eddie.  I'm not decided on what my last name is.   It was Kaspbrak back home, but I've got a new family here so I might change it.  My name is still Kaspbrak in the phones though.

I hope I can be the "cool" teacher. But, my work will be hard, I just want you all to apply yourselves.

Alright, Eddie. I'm Peter. And, I'm very happy that you have found a family here. You seem like a good kid! I will call you by whatever name you prefer.

It's nice to meet you, Eddie, and I hope I can give you and the other kids the best teaching experience I can offer!

Hard work is less cool. Some of my friends might like it though.

Yeah, I'm happy to have them too. But I lost another dad. We're all good kids here. There's no bullies at school here.

Lots of field trips and hands on stuff helps to make things the best.

It won't be that difficult, Eddie. I promise. I'll be there to answer any questions you or any of your friends have, to the best of my knowledge. I'm still learning myself.

Good, I'm happy for that. And I'm glad you all get along. I've never been a fan of bullies, myself. Then again, my biggest bully became my best friend after a while... Though, I'm going to assume our circumstances are a bit different.

Field trips and fun experiments, it is!
