Happy Canada Day!

I'll be serving indulgent special dishes today.

For breakfast, right now at the Ruby - A breakfast 'poutine' - roasted potatoes, cheese curds, bacon, caramelized onions and red peppers, topped with an egg and hollandaise sauce.

For lunch at the diner:
Montréal-style smoked meat sandwiches
Brent's favourite. Chili cheese dogs.
Split pea soup.

For dinner at the Ruby: Tourtière

Desserts at the Ruby - Butter tarts
Blueberry bang belly
Nanaimo bars.
And possibly homemade timbits. If I don't eat them all as I make them.

Regular menu items are still available.

I have not heard of these desserts before.

I think you'll like them. Butter tarts are very sweet, similar to the sugar pies I make. Nanaimo bars are like a brownie with wafer crumbs, a coconut, a special custard and topped with chocolate. A blueberry bang belly is like a cobbler. And Timbit is another name for a doughnut hole.
