She shouldn't have been surprised. And Dove was trying her hardest to not be so hurt by it all. These things weren't in her control, there was something bigger and with more power that decided these things. She knew that some aspects of her powers were very dangerous, and she accepted that. But she'd also been led to believe that there was no way she'd be able to turn one off, and not all. Isolating her powers was, apparently, beyond the technology that Regiment had. Or at least it had been. Maybe they'd advanced since she'd been brought in, maybe the technology had gotten to the point where they could isolate and switch off certain powers, but not all. Maybe it was a fluke. But that was a lot of maybes and everything Mason had been saying to her made far too much sense. They didn't trust her, not with her powers, not with freedom, none of it. And she wanted to put it aside, not think about it, just get over it, but that was harder to do than say. So she was sitting there, her notebook in front of her, trying to remember one of Raven's favourite poems she could write for her friend, making herself not cry, because she didn't need to be that girl. Sniffling wasn't crying though, and she could blame the cinnamon in her tea if anyone asked. She just really hoped no one asked. |
