Bella had tried to stay awake after receiving Edward's text. She had missed him, longed for him and despite the distance between them, she still wanted to be near him.

She had curled up on her bed to read, but even Withering Heights couldn't fight the battle against her heavy eyelids. She curled up under the comforter and her sleep was dreamless, an endless sea of darkness.

It was late when Edward returned after meeting Jasper in Alice's dance studio. He let himself into his apartment and went into his room, putting his jacket on the chair before going to Bella's door where he paused for a moment as he could hear Bella's slow heartbeat in the room next to him and he could tell that she had fallen asleep.

Opening her door, he stepped into Bella's room and walked silently over to her bed where he stood, watching her sleep for a few minutes. He had always enjoyed watching her sleep. She always looked so peaceful.

After a few minutes, Edward went to the side of her bed, reaching out and brushing a stray hair off of her forehead. "Bella." He said softly as he didn't want to startle her.

Bella stirred slightly as she felt something cool brush across her forehead. She could still feel sleep anchoring her in her place until Edwards soft voice echoed in her ears.

Her eyes fluttered, barely able to make out the contours of his face in the pale light that vaguely shone through her window curtains.

"Edward?"

Her head felt too heavy to lift, even though the weight of sleep was slowly beginning to lift from her.

"I tried waiting for you.."

Edward smiled softly as Bella began to wake, feeling guilty that he chose to wake her from a peaceful sleep.

"I can see that you did." Edward looked at the copy of Withering Heights that was open on the bed. He moved to the side of the bed and crouched down so he was level with her. "I met Jasper in Alice's dance studio."

"You can go back to sleep if you wish. We can talk in the morning if you are too tired." He reached out and brushed another strand of hair off of her face. As always, he couldn't take his eyes off of her. He relished every moment he could spend near her.

Instinctively, she leaned into the soft caress of his fingers as they pushed the stray hair from her face. She missed feeling his touch.

Lifting her hand, she grasped for his hand as he tried to pull it back. She had been reluctant to talk to him because she knew being near him was near impossible for her to resist. She loved him and she always felt as if there was a huge hole within her when he wasn't near.

"Stay?" Her request was simple and yet, even she could hear the slight desperate tinge that tainted the word. She didn't just want him to stay near, she needed him to.

Edward wrapped her hand in his as she grasped his hand. Her touch was comforting and he missed it. Bella was his entire life and ever since she had ended their relationship, it felt like a part of him was missing just as it had when he had left her after the incident with Jasper.

Edward smiled his crooked smile and nodded at her request. He was happy to stay and he couldn't help but hope that her request for him to stay was a good sign.

Climbing into her bed, he stretched out beside her, gathering her gently in his arms and pulling her close, keeping the blankets wrapped around her so she wouldn't get cold.

"How have you been Bella? How are your classes? I hope your text book hasn't tried to bite you again."

He would resist the urge to shred the offending text book.

Bella rested her head against Edward's chest. She took a deep breath, enjoying his familiar scent. She snuggled closer as he pulled the covers over them.

"I've missed you.." Her voice was soft, saddened by the thought of just how long they had been apart. "School's been interesting enough. With all the strangeness going on, we haven't really been able to learn much. And no.. I belted it, like it was suggested on the network. But my tennis shoes still believe I'm trying to come in between them."

She paused for a moment, almost stunned at what she had just said. She never would have thought they'd have this kind of conversation and the reality of it was just hilarious. She couldn't help but laugh at the strangeness in Colligo.

Edward ran his finger down her spine as she settled and got herself comfortable. He could never understand how she found lying against him comfortable. He was hard as stone and yet, he was glad she did. Holding her and watching Bella sleep was one of his favourite parts of the day.

"I've missed you too Bella. So much." He knew how hard this separation had been on the both of them.

He chuckled at her mention of the solution to secure her text book and her anxious tennis shoes. "The piano in my room sings along when I play. It also doesn't hesitate to tell me when I missed a note. We've had an argument about the lullaby that I wrote for you. The piano thinks it'd be better if I changed a note or two." Edward smirked. He had to admit that it was amusing.

Bella shivered as Edward's finger traveled down her back. He had always able to cause her to become putty in his hands with a simple touch.

"Don't you dare!" She tilted her head to gaze up at him. "It's perfect the way it is. It wouldn't be the same if it changed."

Her smile faltered as she realized that the same could be said about their relationship. Things had finally seemed to be on the path of working out for them and now.. well she didn't want to think about how much being in Colligo had made their future seem obsolete.

Edward smiled as he looked into Bella's beautiful eyes. "Do not worry Bella. I do not plan to change anything about your lullaby. I wrote it like that and it will stay like that."

Edward held Bella in silence for a few moments, taking deep breaths and allowing himself to completely surround himself with her scent, even if it did still stir the repressed monster inside of him.

"I want to talk to you Bella. About us. I want you to know that I'm still willing to keep my end of our compromise. I gave you my word and I do not intend to go back on my word."

Bella pressed her face against his chest. She wanted to believe he meant the words as he spoke them, but she knew he truly didn't want to turn her.

"On which part, Edward?"

She knew he saw her as fragile and he certainly treated her as such. But now, knowing what was to come would only give him more of a reason to treat her as such.

She had been saddened when it was implied that she only wished to be turned. Truth was, had Edward been human, she would have happily accepted her human life to spend it with him. She only truly desired to become like him, so she could spend forever with him. But what she desired most was to experience true intimacy. To be able to kiss him without him pulling away out of fear of hurting her.

It was true, Edward didn't want to turn Bella. He didn't want to be selfish to risk her soul so that he could have her forever.

However, the Archangel Gabriel assured him that he had a soul. Edward didn't know whether or not to believe him at first but he had decided to. An Archangel wouldn't take the time to contact you just to lie to you. Would he?

"If you agree to marry me, we will still consummate our relationship while you are still human." Edward paused. "I also will not go back on my word about turning you, if it is what you truly want."

Bella's eyes moved up to take in his face. She hated that she couldn't read his expressions.

"O-of course, I want that. I just want to be with you, Edward." She stopped to take a quick breath, her eyes searching his. She could feel her cheeks warm with a blush. "In every way possible."

"And I want to be with you Bella. You are right. We are better together." Edward said, leaning down and kissing her forehead. "After we are married, I promise that I will turn you as soon as you tell me you are ready."

Bella's brow raised in surprise.

"As soon as I tell you I'm ready?"

Wondering if he really meant that, as she had been saying she was ready for over a year. Gulping, she felt her cheeks burn feverishly.

Edward nodded. "As you as you tell me you are ready. I understand why you want to be turned and I respect them." There was a part of Edward that still wished she would change her mind but he had given her his word and he would keep it. Besides, the selfish part of him was looking forward to the idea of being able to keep Bella forever.

Edward ran his finger over Bella's very warm cheek. "What is it?"

Bella's eyes closed as his cool finger ran across her cheek. The effect was electrifying and she shivered in response.

"I.. I want us.. I mean, I want our first time." She gulped and began to feel flush. "I want to experience our first time as a human, Edward."

Edward smirked as Bella shivered. "I know and as I promised back home, I will try." Edward had concerns of whether he would be able to maintain his control with Bella but he was willing to try.

"But, that being said, we need to figure out a way to ensure that...." Edward paused, trying to find the best way to word what he was thinking. "....we need a form of contraception." He glanced at Bella, waiting for her reaction, hoping he didn't look as awkward as he felt discussing this particular topic.

Bella blinked at Edward's statement. She hadn't even considered they would need to worry about protection of any type. She pressed her face to his chest, trying to find the strength within to be mature enough to discuss this.

The conversation with Charlie, about being a virgin, had been awkward enough. But now, she couldn't help but feel embarrassed. She knew Edward was correct. Even though she wanted to be turned, they both were still uneasy about the idea of them having a child together.

She had never really considered children before and now that they knew the possibility existed, she knew she wasn't ready to be a mother.

"Of course. We don't want another Renesmee to deal with." She said quietly.

Edward gently pulled Bella closer to him as she buried her face against his chest. He was glad that she was being open to this conversation despite it being awkward for the both of them.

"I admit that I don't know if there is anything I can do for contraception. Maybe we should go to the clinic and discuss it with a doctor." Edward wished that Carlisle was here. "Would you be willing to consider taking birth control?"

Never in his long life had he thought he would have to have a discussion about birth control. He hadn't even considered the possibility of a child. But it did happen back home, or at least, it was going to eventually happen. Edward did not want to put Bella through that again.

Bella nodded against Edward's chest, his familiar scent helping to distract her from just how embarrassing this conversation was making her.

"Yes, I would be willing.. though isn't it better to use more than one form?"

She wasn't sure, but she vaguely remembered her Health Education teacher saying just as much. She clung to him, wondering how she had managed to go as long as she had without being near him. She seemed to fit perfectly in his arms and if she had a say so in it, she would never leave them.

"It would be better to use more than one form. But I am not sure....I don't know if a condom would work with me. I might break it or something." Edward chuckled. He couldn't help it. The conversation was just awkward. Edward knew that if he was human, his face would be as flushed as Bella's was.

"I will write the clinic and ask them for their opinion. Maybe they have suggestions."

"I guess I should go in for an appointment?"

Bella felt as if her face was on fire. Completely uneasy, she sat up from Edward's embrace and turned her back to him. Nervously running her hands through her hair as she tries not to think about the topic or how Edward might break..

She pushed away the thoughts and absentmindedly began pulling her hair up into a ponytail. She usually liked to wear her thick long hair down, but she really needed something mindless to distract her, even momentarily.

"Would you like me to go with you?" Edward asked. He was going to be an active participant in the reason why Bella needed birth control. If she wanted him there, he would be there.

Edward watched as Bella sat up and pulled her hair up into a ponytail. Edward moved over so he was sitting next to her. "What's wrong Bella?"

Bella shook her head. Going to see a doctor for birth control fell into the list of "human time". She couldn't possibly subject herself to an examination as personal as the one she would have to have, if Edward were there.

She sighed as he sat up, she wasn't trying to pull away. But somewhere in the back of her mind, those lingering insecurities still clung to the fact that she was not good enough for him.

"Are you sure? That this is what you truly want, Edward?" She paused, a lump began to form in her throat. "Are you sure I am the one you want to be with.. forever?"

"I have never been so sure of anything in my life Bella. There is nobody and nothing I want more than you. I've known that since the first day that I met you in biology class." Edward smirked before standing up and leaning in to kiss Bella's forehead. "Wait here for a minute."

Edward left Bella's room and went into his own, opening up the drawer to his night stand and pulling Bella's ring out. Looking it over, he went back to Bella's room, holding out his hand, showing Bella the ring.

"I kept this close. Hoping you'd like it back one day."

Bella's eyes closed as Edward's lips pressed to her forehead. She loved him and hearing him say his assurance at wanting to be with her, slightly helped push away the insecurities that were continuously haunting her subconscious.

She smiled softly as he opened to reveal the beautiful ring. She had always felt it was too extravagant for her, but the fact it had been his mother's and he intended it to be hers, always warmed her heart the most.

"I would love to have the ring back. It's like having a part of you.. the human you, with me."

Edward smirked as he reached out and gently took Bella's left hand. Bringing her hand to his lips, he kissed the back of her hand before slipping the ring back on her finger and for the first time since they arrived here, things felt right again.

"I love you Bella. I've waited so long for you. I have no intention of letting you go. Tell me when you are ready, and I'll turn you."

Edward smiled again. "I did find someone who volunteered to preform our wedding ceremony. His name is Gabriel. As in the Archangel Gabriel. Now that, will be a wedding to remember. A human marrying a vampire and an Archangel officiating the ceremony." Edward couldn't help but chuckle.
