Gabriel was still adjusting to the whole 'going to be a father' thing. Particularly to the 'going to be a father to a half-angel child who would never be anything approaching normal' thing. He had never really considered the possibility before, mostly because he'd never had a relationship that lasted and, he supposed, on some level he'd always subconsciously willed against it. But things were different now. He was happy with Jade and settled down, or as settled as he would ever get. And, in a general sense at least, he liked kids. Kids were fun. And they didn't lie or pretend to be anything they weren't, or do any of the multitude of things that really annoyed him about adults. Mostly, he was just worried about screwing up. He tended to do that a lot, the screwing up thing, and he didn't want to do that now. But he had Jade with him, and she at least wouldn't screw up. So, with approximately one and a quarter responsible adults between them, they'd probably manage.

If Jade didn't kill him first. That was a very real possibility, Jade killing him because he'd knocked her up and now she was having a mutant baby that rushed through pregnancy like a bull through Pamplona. Still, he could handle it. Probably. Maybe. Okay, he was totally screwed. Few people scared him, but Jade was one. Because she was scary. And there was always the possibility that she would see sense and realize there was every chance she could do better than a manchild archangel. He frowned. He really didn't like that. Clearly, he'd just have to convince her he was useful to keep around, even if he did do stupid and insane things a lot.

"Hey, Jade," he said, poking his head into the living room where she was relaxing and enjoying the break from Adam. Not that Adam was a bad kid, but he was an antichrist and they could be a handful. Today though, he was out playing with dog. "Can I get you anything, sweetcheeks?" He didn't come all the way into the room, worried she might throw a shoe at his head or something. "Ice cream? Tea? A kitten?" He wasn't sure what she might like.

Gabriel was still pretty sure Jade was going to smack him at the very least, so he was hesitant to come over to where she was sitting until she told him that she just wanted him to feel something. There was, of course, still the possibility that she was lulling him into a false sense of security before beating him to death with her shoe, but he was fairly certain that wasn't the case. Jade tended to be pretty straightforward about things, so if she did want to hit him she would likely have just said so. And he would have let her, because she really deserved the chance after everything.

But then it was clear she honestly just wanted him to feel something, and that something was the baby kicking. And, as awkward as he'd been just moments before, Gabriel really didn't want to miss out on that. Mostly because he'd probably inadvertently make the baby start up again if it started, and then Jade really would murder him and be completely justified in doing so. With that in mind, Gabriel sat down hesitantly next to Jade and moved his hand to rest it on her stomach. He was somewhat surprised by just how much he wanted the reality of this, not an abstract idea but the real thing, and he felt something warm and fuzzy in his heart as he felt the slight movement of the baby. It was almost like a kitten had crawled inside his vessel and curled up in his chest cavity. Only less disturbing and gross.

It hadn't quite hit him until that moment, though he knew logically that it was a reality. But now it was different. He'd felt their child. He'd touched something inside it and he couldn't help grinning at Jade. "That's...awesome," he said with a wide smile. "Wow...I just...we made that. We made a tiny, vaguely human creature. And pretty soon he'll be here and he'll be awesome, because how could he not with parents like us." He leaned over and kissed her. "I love you so much, Jade."

Jade's smile had grown as she'd watched the various emotions flicker across Gabriel's face as he'd felt their child kicking for the first time. The shock and awe, followed by the realization that this was very much real, had more than made up for the fact that he was the reason she was in the situation she was in at the moment. Yes, pregnancy wasn't something that she was particularly enjoying, but she freely admitted - or would, if asked - that a large part of that was due to going through so much of it, so quickly.

Of course, then Gabriel had to go and open his mouth. And although Jade loved him, had loved the version of him that had existed in her reality and loved this version even more, if that were possible, part of her wanted to smack him upside the head for his statement. Not the part about loving her. No, if he hadn't said that, she probably would have burst into tears. Stupid hormones. Rather, her worry was born from the in-passing comment about a tiny, vaguely human creature. Because yes, she knew that he hadn't meant it as anything bad but it still made something deep inside of her twitch and caused instant worry to flood through her consciousness.

"He's going to look human though, right?"

The question was asked with worry lacing her tone but still with minimal hesitation or reservation. Jade didn't much believe in beating around the bush. Although she did pause long enough to glance down at her stomach with something akin to trepidation before turning her gaze to the Archangel beside her. "I love you too, Gabe," she said, almost absently even if she meant it with ever fiber of her being. "Now reassure me that our child isn't going to be born looking like some freak of nature."
