Who: Jo Harvelle & Gabriel
When: After this
Where: Complex/lake
Rating: TBD
Status Incomplete

Jo was conflicted, but trying very hard not to be. She wanted to tell herself that she could wait. She could handle being the 'other' woman in this bizarre triangle. Hell, she'd died; she could do this, right? But it was hard for her to be patient, and she honestly wasn't built to wait like that. Plus, she'd never been good at sharing.

But she cared too much about Gabriel to risk losing him, or risk making him angry. Plus, she knew he'd been in a rough place lately; like he said, she had helped him through it...as much as she could. Even though a part of her knew she could never fully understand what he was going through. Jo had been happy when Jade had returned, but things still felt weird to her. Especially when she didn't know where she stood.

All those thoughts were pushed aside as she dressed in boots, jeans, a white tank, a dark blue flannel shirt half-buttoned over it, and a jacket. Running an absent hand through her hair (she had never been the girly type who spent hours on it when she didn't need to), she headed out of her apartment after the text conversation with Gabriel, and made her way outside. Stepping into the late afternoon sunlight, she blinked a little, then glanced around to see if he was there yet.

Gabe was dressed in his typical dark t-shirt, jeans, and his long black duster. He supposed he could have dressed up a little more, but at least he was showered and neatly shaven, rather than the scruffy mess he'd been of late.

Jade had died, and not knowing what else to expect, he had mourned her. Then she had returned, and now even he wasn't sure where he stood with either woman. His attempts to find out had been...less than explicit or overt. Perhaps he should rectify that.

He went to meet Jo as she stepped outside, moving so quickly that he might have seemed to appear out of nowhere. "Hello there," he said, drawing a carefully wrapped package from within his coat. Inside the package was a bouquet of eight long stemmed chocolate rosebuds.

The blond jumped slightly when she turned and he was suddenly there, but she relaxed almost immediately. A bright smile slid onto her lips, as it always did whenever she saw him. "Hey you." Her eyes widened a little when he suddenly presented her with a bouquet of chocolate flowers. She wasn't used to things like that, and it took her a moment to react.

"Wow...what's this for?" She took the bouquet, the smile softening a little as she looked down at them, then back up at Gabriel. "Not that it's not a welcome surprise, but it is a surprise."

"Just because," he said softly, smiling back at her. His heart warmed to see the expressions on her face, to feel the emotions radiating from her being. "I know I have been slow to answer, and I am still grieving in a way, but...I wanted to give you a small token of my affection and appreciation. If it isn't too presumptive of me?"

"Not one bit." She grinned, then moved closer and held the package off to one side. She moved onto her toes and slid her opposite arm around his neck, pulling him down for a tender kiss. She let him go a moment later, feeling a lot better now than she had five minutes before. "Shall we head to the lake?"

He returned the kiss lightly, releasing her with a nod. "To the lake it is."

He could have had them there in an instant, but he wasn't some perennial seventeen year old who needed to show off to his mortal obsession. He was quite content to just enjoy a leisurely walk.

As they walked, she hesitated, then lightly slipped her hand into his while smiling up at him. "How are you feeling, Gabe?" Jo was more than happy just to be spending time with him, but she still worried about him, and wanted to make sure he was alright.

Love was a funny thing sometimes, and she couldn't help but love him right now.

He sighed softly as she took his hand, squeezing gently. "I worry about everyone but myself," he said, "And I know I've been pretty out of it. But I think I'm okay."

"It's okay. I've worried enough for both of us, probably." Jo squeezed his hand in return. "And I'm glad you're okay. I...was really worried about you for a while, there."

Gabriel laughed wryly. "I almost scared myself, toward the end," he said, "But I think that's what made me snap out of it. That and knowing that I still had someone who needed me alive and well."

"I'll always need you, Gabriel. So I guess I'll always help you snap out of things." She smiled at him, her eyes looking up at him. "I'm really glad I could help."

"Well," he confessed, "I'm not used to needing anyone, or anything, but the Source of Light." Only...Elaine's presence didn't seem to shed much light for him beyond the fact that something was keeping him from draining himself as he'd done in purgatory, and he felt guilty for even harboring such doubts. "I guess that's what real faith is about."

"Neither am I, really. Before here....when it was just me and my mom, we needed each other, sure, but we could've gotten on by ourselves for a while." She paused for a moment, tilting her head. "It's weird...when I was younger, growing up in the Roadhouse, all I wanted was to get away from my mom, and be a Hunter like my dad. I guess things change." Jo squeezed his hand a second time. "For the better. And as for faith...I don't know much about it, but I know I've got it in the people that I love."

"You told me once that you get tired of managing the bar," he said, recalling their first conversation. "Have you thought any more about pursuing something different?"

She tilted her head, glancing down at the chocolate bouquet absently, and shook her head. "Not really, no...things have been pretty crazy since then. Plus, I...don't know what else I could do. I've only really been a hunter or worked in a saloon." Her shoulders lifted in a small shrug.

"I've only ever been the celestial pony express, for a lot longer than you've been a hunter," he quipped, his mouth turning up in a hint of a smirk. "I guess that makes two of us learning to adapt."

He put his arm around her shoulders and squeezed. "If you really find something that inspires you, I'm sure you'll find a way to make it happen. If not...I'm sure you'll find a way to make the most of where you are."
