WHO: Claire Bennet and Gabriel
WHAT: Chatting and ice cream.
WHEN: After this and this.
WHERE: The rooftop of Apartment Building A.
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In Progress

It was getting colder. Even though it was May, it was definitely getting colder. The thought seemed a strange one to be having given everything that was going on at the moment. Lucifer's arrival and the murders of both Aziraphale and Angela really should be in the forefront of Claire's mind. Yet all she could really think, now that she'd typed out her feelings to Sam and encouraged Dean to spend some time with him, was that it really shouldn't be so chilly.

Of course, she was also on a roof. Which meant that the wind that had rolled into town shortly before the Devil himself had arrived was a bit stronger than it would have been if she were on the ground. Yet Claire had always enjoyed the peaceful quiet that came from rooftops. The knowledge that someone would have to actively seek her out up here, and that most wouldn't bother, also helped. Then when you added in the fact that she wasn't there because she was trying to make the focus all about 'poor, pitiful Claire' but rather was trying to avoid having anyone focus on her, she felt that she had made the right choice.

Growing as a person wasn't easy. She didn't know when it had happened. All she knew was that at some point she had realized that the world didn't, actually, revolve around her and her feelings. Not that she had ever intentionally tried to make things seem that way but now that she understood that's exactly what she tended to do, she was making a conscious effort to do just the opposite. And again, it wasn't easy, but she wanted to think she was doing at least a halfway decent job at it.

Perched on the ledge, her legs dangling over the side, she let her gaze drop to the PDA still resting in her lap. She had considered contacting someone else once Dean had headed off to meet Sam with the promise to bring back pie, but she opted against it. She had also considered jumping off the roof to give herself a few peaceful moments of blissful unawareness. She, too, had opted against that for some reason she couldn't quite identify. Maybe it was another sign of her growing as a person. Maybe it was the simple fact that she didn't want to ruin a perfectly good outfit. Maybe it was something else entirely. Whatever the reason, for now she was content to simply sit there and let the wind blow over her upturned face as she embraced her grief in a way that didn't involve making everyone else around her even more miserable than they already were.

It wasn't as therapeutic as falling head-first into the pavement below but she supposed it would have to do.

Gabriel was concerned for Dean's little girlfriend. Yes, that sentence was completely wrong in so many ways, but it also happened to be true. No, he hadn't suddenly sprouted a deep love for the Winchesters and their merry band of friends, but he also thought it was probably a bad idea to have blondie wandering around like a walking neon sign proclaiming 'THIS WAY TO THE WINCHESTERS'. Even Lucy was bound to notice that sooner or later. Why none of the others had considered that yet, he didn't know...except that they were a special brand of morons, but he was pretty sure Claire got it. That was why she was hanging out on a roof like an emo kid, instead of bugging the boys with her issues. He had to give her credit for being smarter than the Winchesters...except that was kind of like saying she was smarter than a brick...or that kid in the class that ate paste. Oh wait. That was Sam...if 'eating paste' was the same as letting the devil out of his cage.

He appeared next to Claire on the roof with two Styrofoam containers of ice cream. Rocky Road for Claire and Cookies and Cream for him. He passed the blonde hers, along with a spoon and set his own down beside him. "Hold tight to those," he said, then pressed his hand to her ribs. She would feel a jolt of pain and then she would be effectively hidden from angels. "There," he said. "Now my evil brother can't find you. Why nobody did that yet, I don't even want to know. Tell me...are they retarded?"

"I'm Gabriel, by the way," he continued, picking up his ice cream and taking a bite.

One minute Claire was alone on the roof and the next there was someone beside her who was passing her a container of what appeared to be ice cream then getting up close and personal with her. There was a sharp spike of pain - actual pain - and Claire sucked in a breath through her teeth more and her eyes widened faintly in shock. It was as the pain faded that she realized who the guy... well, angel was, and her brow furrowed a bit in mild confusion. She peered down at the ice cream he'd given her then looked back to him.

"I know," she finally said slowly, confusion evident in her tone as to why an archangel had opted to join her on the rooftop and bring ice cream of all things. Shaking her head a bit, she decided that she'd definitely been through weirder and absently took a bite of her ice cream. "And I think everyone's been a little preoccupied, so no one has really thought about trying to hide me."

Swallowing her bite of Rocky Road, she glanced back to him. "Um, thanks, for that," she tacked on. "And the ice cream. And... why are you being nice to me?"

"Well, they should have," Gabriel said with a shrug. "It would suck if Lucifer found Sammy just because nobody thought to hide you. I'm sure Anna's going to do the same to the Weechester, because she's smarter than your average bear. Even if he'd had them before, when he became Mikey's suit back home, they would have got burned off." He rolled his eyes. His version of Michael really was a toolbox, and just talking about him got Gabriel worked up. At least this version seemed marginally more tolerable.

"No problem," he said. He laughed and looked at her. "Ignore what everyone's told you for a second, blondie. The fact is, yeah...I punish douchebags. I enjoy it. It's my personal way of smiting evildoers without going about it like a pompous little prick." He shrugged. "You're not a bad person...a little self-involved, sure, but what eighteen year old isn't?" He took a bite of ice cream. "Besides, you're up here and not with them because you're putting them before yourself...and that's a step in the right direction."

As far as conversations she never thought she had, went, Claire was pretty sure this one was up there near the top of the list. She wasn't quite sure what to say, really, because she honestly had never expected to have any one on one time with Gabriel. Not that she really had anything against him. Granted Dean wasn't his biggest fan, but she did her best not to judge someone just based on Dean's experiences and opinions.

Plus, he'd brought her ice cream. It was hard to be upset with someone who brought you ice cream.

"Well, at least someone gets why I'm up here," she commented idly as she poked at her ice cream with her spoon. Her feet swung idly, legs still dangling over the edge of the roof, and she cast him another sideways glance. "Don't suppose you have any idea why I'm not feeling my normal overwhelming urge to jump?" she asked in lieu of not being sure what else to say.

She doubted he knew or, if he did, that whatever he said would really matter all that much. She just knew that she didn't feel the urge quite like she normally did and didn't consider that necessarily a bad thing. Just... weird.
