It was getting colder. Even though it was May, it was definitely getting colder. The thought seemed a strange one to be having given everything that was going on at the moment. Lucifer's arrival and the murders of both Aziraphale and Angela really should be in the forefront of Claire's mind. Yet all she could really think, now that she'd typed out her feelings to Sam and encouraged Dean to spend some time with him, was that it really shouldn't be so chilly.
Of course, she was also on a roof. Which meant that the wind that had rolled into town shortly before the Devil himself had arrived was a bit stronger than it would have been if she were on the ground. Yet Claire had always enjoyed the peaceful quiet that came from rooftops. The knowledge that someone would have to actively seek her out up here, and that most wouldn't bother, also helped. Then when you added in the fact that she wasn't there because she was trying to make the focus all about 'poor, pitiful Claire' but rather was trying to avoid having anyone focus on her, she felt that she had made the right choice.
Growing as a person wasn't easy. She didn't know when it had happened. All she knew was that at some point she had realized that the world didn't, actually, revolve around her and her feelings. Not that she had ever intentionally tried to make things seem that way but now that she understood that's exactly what she tended to do, she was making a conscious effort to do just the opposite. And again, it wasn't easy, but she wanted to think she was doing at least a halfway decent job at it.
Perched on the ledge, her legs dangling over the side, she let her gaze drop to the PDA still resting in her lap. She had considered contacting someone else once Dean had headed off to meet Sam with the promise to bring back pie, but she opted against it. She had also considered jumping off the roof to give herself a few peaceful moments of blissful unawareness. She, too, had opted against that for some reason she couldn't quite identify. Maybe it was another sign of her growing as a person. Maybe it was the simple fact that she didn't want to ruin a perfectly good outfit. Maybe it was something else entirely. Whatever the reason, for now she was content to simply sit there and let the wind blow over her upturned face as she embraced her grief in a way that didn't involve making everyone else around her even more miserable than they already were.
It wasn't as therapeutic as falling head-first into the pavement below but she supposed it would have to do.
