WHO: Dean Winchester, Castiel, Zachariah and God later.
WHAT: Zachariah is going to learn why you don't fuck with God's chosen one.
WHEN: Shortly after this.
WHERE: Bar in Colligo.
RATING: R to be safe.
STATUS: Complete.

Dean sat at the bar and poured himself a glass of whiskey. He'd asked the bartender to leave the bottle, not that he planned on finishing it. After a moment's consideration, he poured Cas a glass too. One wouldn't hurt, and the guy deserved it, all things considered. They were waiting for Zachariah...who was definitely Dean's least favorite angel. And he knew there was no love lost between the guy and Cas. He still hadn't gotten over that stunt with the Croatoan future, and he really did not want to have to deal with Zach right now. He raised his shot glass and gave Cas a nod. "Cheers," he said with a wry grin, knocking the shot back.

He saw Zach walk in and set down his glass, getting to his feet. "Oh joy," he drawled sarcastically. "You decided to grace us with your presence." And he really wanted to just haul off and punch him, but he figured he'd let the guy be smug a bit first. It would just make it that much better when he did hit him.

He drew his fist back and punched Zachariah hard.

Or not.

"You know," he said with a satisfied smile, "they say never hit a guy with a closed fist...but it is, on occasion, hilarious!" He didn't expect either of them to get the reference. He shook his hand, because damn that hurt. But it sure felt good. Of course, he'd assume when God said he could hit Zach, that it would actually have some affect, but maybe she hadn't made her move yet. Any day now, he thought to himself.

Zachariah could not find his words anymore, his silver tongue silenced by terror. He wanted to ask what his Father meant. What had it come to? Was he to fall? Was his Grace to be removed? Was to to live as a human? The prospect was horrible but there was a hope in it. Anna had regained her Grace after all and if that slip could do it surely he could too.

Maybe this wouldn't be so bad.

Then God moved away and Castiel was ordered to cover Dean's ears. Doesn't He mean his eyes? It's the eyes that were at risk from the uncovered Grace of an angel. Zachariah started in confusion. What was his Father going to do?

Dean couldn't really bring himself to feel sorry for Zachariah. The guy had brought it on himself, trying to destroy the world and threatening people who meant the most to Dean. He'd never really been the forgiving sort, and as far as he could tell, Zach didn't merit it. Still, he did feel bad for Cas, having to see this. And God, having to do it. He sort of understood now, that God had a really crappy job.

Suddenly, Castiel's hands were covering his ears, and he was confused and a little worried. What was going to happen now? On reflex, his hands covered Castiel's ears just in case, as if that would do any good. It was an instinctive, protective urge...that was probably really fucking stupid.

While Castiel wasn't in any danger over what was about to come, the fact that Dean cared enough to actually cover Castiel's ears was quite a sweet gesture and certainly one that God noticed. She didn't comment on it, however, being far too focused on Zachariah at the moment. She doubted he'd try to flee - not even the Morningstar had been willing to do that until the very end of the War - but she also wasn't going to let anything deter her from dealing with him swiftly and justly.

So the moment Dean's ears (and now, Castiel's as well) were covered, she stepped closer to Zachariah. With sorrow shining in her eyes, she pressed a gentle kiss to his cheek. Her voice was little more than a murmur as she passed her judgment.

I do wish you had chosen a different path. You always did have great potential, Zachariah.

Stepping back once again, she drew in a deep breath, double checked to make sure no humans were close enough to suffer from what she was about to do, then opened her mouth.

And spoke.

Granted, on the mortal coil, it simply came out as a roar. Far louder than any other sound conceivable, it rattled the windows in the buildings around them and shook the ground under their feet. It was the pure essence of the Lord Almighty and something the likes of which few had ever encountered.

Were Zachariah human, his head would have ruptured at the sound. Were Dean's ears not covered, his would have done the same. However, Dean's ears were covered and Zachariah was hardly human. So while one of her chosen ones was safe, the object of her wrath was not.

Unfortunately, for him at least, what she was doing wasn't a painless endeavor. It wasn't nearly as clean-cut as when she'd dealt with Bartleby. No, as Zachariah was inhabiting a human host, first she had to separate the two. That was simple enough, and solely done by her Will alone. By the time the windows in the building had begun to crack from her Voice, it was finished.

Then, however, came the truly terrible part. For God hadn't decided to send Zachariah to Hell, nor did she intend to remove his Grace. No, she knew he was far too crafty and ambitious for either of those to happen, and she certainly wasn't going to make the same miscalculation by banishing yet another angel to the mortal coil only for him to find a loophole to return Home. No, her choice was an obvious one. Far from simple, but obvious.

Zachariah had to be obliterated; taken completely out of existence.

Which is just what she set out to do. She kept his Grace intact, although shielded from Dean's eyes, even after his human shell was stripped away and sent back to his proper reality. She raised her Voice to a new decibel next and watched, with pain filling her very essence, as slowly but surely bits and pieces of Zachariah began to burn before quickly turning to ash.

By the time she was finished, there would be nothing left of him, aside from the memories he'd left behind in those he'd harmed and tried to use. And the love of a Creator who truly did wish her angel had chosen a different path, if only to spare him the pain of his punishment before nothingness consumed him entirely.

It was the kiss that finally told him.

He didn't beg. He didn't ask. He just let his vessel release a few tears. He had let his Father down. He had caused Him pain. Too late he realised this was his true punishment. Too late he realised that was the very last thing he ever wanted to do.

Just in time he realised that it was the last thing he ever would.

Castiel stared, ridged, paralysed. His face fell open as his hands fell away from Dean's ears.

He backed away from all of them. His Grace expanded in a wordless scream only his Father, his siblings, could hear. He backed away and kept backing away, his terror filling the space around him, invisible and white hot.

He back away and backed away and then he was gone.

Dean stared. He hadn't expected that, but then again he understood. He was somehow more comfortable with the idea of a wrathful God than a sweet and friendly God. It fit the image he had grown up with better. Still, he was starting to think that maybe this wasn't the idea of God that Cas was comfortable with. Definitely not, as Cas backed away in a terrified panic.

"Cas!" he shouted, as the angel disappeared. Then he looked at God, silently asking her to help. He had no idea where Cas had gone and, unlike the angel, he couldn't just disappear and reappear wherever he was.

God's eyes slid closed as Castiel's Grace assaulted her senses and sent a sharp stab of pain through her very essence. She didn't watch his retreat. She didn't need to. She had known it was likely to happen and, now that it was, didn't need to turn and see it to feel it taking place. His terror was almost tangible... and was due to her.

She re-opened her eyes when Dean shouted, turning to face him. Her eyes shone with sorrow, with pain for the loss she felt and the terror Castiel was experiencing. Giving a nod of her head at his silent plea for her help, God raised an arm and pointed back in the direction of his apartment.

It was an easily understood command. Go. I'll take care of Castiel.

And then God was gone as well, to do precisely that.
