WHO: Dean Winchester, Castiel, Zachariah and God later.
WHAT: Zachariah is going to learn why you don't fuck with God's chosen one.
WHEN: Shortly after this.
WHERE: Bar in Colligo.
RATING: R to be safe.
STATUS: Complete.

Dean sat at the bar and poured himself a glass of whiskey. He'd asked the bartender to leave the bottle, not that he planned on finishing it. After a moment's consideration, he poured Cas a glass too. One wouldn't hurt, and the guy deserved it, all things considered. They were waiting for Zachariah...who was definitely Dean's least favorite angel. And he knew there was no love lost between the guy and Cas. He still hadn't gotten over that stunt with the Croatoan future, and he really did not want to have to deal with Zach right now. He raised his shot glass and gave Cas a nod. "Cheers," he said with a wry grin, knocking the shot back.

He saw Zach walk in and set down his glass, getting to his feet. "Oh joy," he drawled sarcastically. "You decided to grace us with your presence." And he really wanted to just haul off and punch him, but he figured he'd let the guy be smug a bit first. It would just make it that much better when he did hit him.

He drew his fist back and punched Zachariah hard.

Or not.

"You know," he said with a satisfied smile, "they say never hit a guy with a closed fist...but it is, on occasion, hilarious!" He didn't expect either of them to get the reference. He shook his hand, because damn that hurt. But it sure felt good. Of course, he'd assume when God said he could hit Zach, that it would actually have some affect, but maybe she hadn't made her move yet. Any day now, he thought to himself.

She wasn't invited to be here, actually in fact she had been given an order to stay away. The voice echoed in her head and she smiled staying perched in the darkness so no one was aware of her presence. "I did say I would sit in the back and root for you, just in case you need me." She whispered tilting her head as she saw God arrive.

She waited to watch the fun as she tried to imagine the look on their face with the up coming events. She would not interupt until she was spoken to come out and play.

Zachariah looked horrified. His face became a mask of righteous anger as he glared at Dean. “How dare you speak to The Lord with such familiarity? I knew you were incapable of showing respect to me but this is beyond comprehension. Now get down on your knees and hope Our Father chooses to forgive you.”

He looked back to God. “I am sorry, my Lord. He has always been a crude being in my experience.” He actually managed to look scandalised and vaguely smug at the same time.

Castiel almost felt sorry for Zachariah. So much had happened in this place that changed everything and Zachariah was unaware of any of it but, then, on balance, that seemed fair.

Castiel watched God, Dean, Zachariah his expression blank as if waiting for something to happen so he would know which to wear, as if there was none to match the power of what he was feeling. Whatever happened next it would be just, it would be right, it would be deserved.

Castiel believed Zachariah believed in his cause but his methods and motivations caused Castiel considerable doubt. Blackmail and bullying were not appropriate behaviour for angels but Castiel's objections were more personal than that.

Zachariah had taken authority that was their Father's and used it against Dean and himself. He had taken Castiel's loyalty and trust and turned it on His Father's creation.

He had betrayed their Father.

Castiel watched, his words unsaid as he waited for the right time to say them.

God would have smiled at Dean's greeting, her own likely as familiar. Zachariah, however, chose to speak up again. Personally, she was getting a little sick of that.

Zachariah, she all but sighed his name. This time, she allowed Castiel to hear what she had to 'say', as well as Dean. No one else - and only him due to the thoughts not being heard so much as being known. Immediate understanding that they were there and what they meant.

It was tricky, but it was a loophole around that whole pesky head explosion issue.

No sooner had his name been murmured was she moving closer to him, releasing her grip on his wrist and instead reaching upward. Her fingers wrapped around his throat and her expression hardened.

I. She picked him up off the ground - as far over her head as was possible. Said.

She spun with him, one heel on her flip flop squeaking lightly against the floor before she swung her arm back then released. As Zachariah was tossed effortlessly through the wall, the last word echoed around them.

Enough!

She wanted him out of the bar. She wanted him several buildings away. Where there weren't any humans, no one in harm's way aside from Zachariah himself.

It was time he knew her Wrath.

One moment he had been apologising to God for Dean's rudeness, the next he was flying through the air, flying so fast he could not gather his wings behind him.

His flight was finally stopped by a white-walled office building. He smacked into it a a 45 degree angle, limbs everywhere. He bounced off and slid down the outside of the building, hitting the street below 4.3 seconds later.

Zachariah had never been so confused as he lifted his head slowly. "What... why?" he managed to cough out.

As soon as Zachariah had crashed through the wall of the bar, God spoke again. This time, to Castiel, although her gaze remained on the hole she'd created - or, perhaps, the angel flying through the building now visible through the gaping hole.

Come along, God's voice was considerably softer. Far more gentle than it had been mere seconds before. The wall was instantly repaired and, in the blink of an eye, God was gone.

She reappeared where Zachariah had fallen, just as he was coughing out his question. God merely arched an eyebrow in response for a long moment.

Tell me, Zachariah, what gives you the right to circumvent free will? Her tone was casual yet carried an edge to it. As though she were barely able to keep her anger in check.

Calmly she reached down, grasping him by the front of his shirt, and lifting him clear off the ground. Setting him back down on his feet, God released him. Her arms crossed over her chest as she peered up at him.

I'm waiting, she reminded him.

Castiel followed his Father without a moment's pause for thought. He took Dean's arm and brought him with them, knowing he would want to be there until the very end. He made sure not to pass in front of God. His Father must arrive there first.

He took his place behind him when they arrived, watched Zachariah bleed on the ground. Zachariah bleed.

He held his tongue.

"I never- when did I... I did it all for you, Father, for Heaven. It was too much for us, to run everything without you. They needed guidance and so I gave and he," he pointed at Dean,
"was selfish. Thought only of himself over the whole of creation. I had to do something." He looked desperate, pleading with his eyes. He knew he had misread the situation but he did not accept he had done anything wrong.

"Lucifer was walking free and the only way to stop him was being blocked by one man's cowardice. I had to do something. Father, don't you understand? Lucifer had to be stopped. It was the only way." He wiped a fleck of blood from his eye as he looked askance at his Father.

He had every intention of holding his tongue. It was his Father's turn to speak but then he said that word. Castiel's whole body tensed into one giant knot. He didn't mean to but he stepped forward. "Dean is NOT a coward," he snapped. "He just knew when he was being used and decided he did not wish to be. You tried to harm him many times and it was never your right. You will harm him no more. I will not leave him to you. You cannot hurt me or Dean. You whining bitch."

Castiel stopped to take a breath. He looked from Zachariah to Dean to his Father. He seemed surprised he had said anything at all. He stepped back and fell silent.

Dean stared at Castiel for a moment, awed both by the automatic defense of his character and the last comment. It reminded him of how Cas had been when they had faced Raphael. He had to admit that seeing Cas stand up to an archangel, and now to Zachariah, was pretty damn impressive. "Go Cas!" he said with a proud grin.

Then he turned his attention to Zachariah. "I did everything I could to stop Lucifer from rising," he growled. "I did things I never should have had to...I lost good people and I was willing to die to stop him from ever getting out. But you lying bastards never wanted me to stop that. You wanted him to get out so you could have your fucking pissing contest! So don't call me a coward just because I want to find another way besides giving in to you lying, manipulative jackasses. As far as I'm concerned, there are exactly two angels who have ever given me a reason to trust them, and you definitely aren't one of them."

His eyes hardened. "Don't you fucking get it?" he asked. "It never had to come to this! We could have stopped Lucifer if you had just been honest for one damn second. Because of you, he's out and he's destroying humanity. That humanity that God charged you with protecting. So, if that makes me selfish...if that makes me a coward? I'd sure as hell rather be that than be anything like you!"
