WHO: Jack Harkness, Ianto Jones
WHAT: It's date night. Or as close to Jack & Jones get to a date. AKA, Lia and Ashe attempt a non-epic thread of epicness!
WHEN: Evening
WHERE: Their flat
STATUS: In progress
RATING: Come on. It's Jack & Jones. What do you expect?

Jack sat in the living area, hands folded on his lap and perched on an arm of the couch. They were going to do this, dammit. They had to. For once, they were going to get through a date and there was going to be nothing that was going to stand in their way for once. Jack was determined that this was going to go off without a hitch.

Even if they did nothing more than stay at home, it was still going to be something. As far as Jack was concerned they needed this. While their relationship could never really be considered 'normal' by any stretch of the imagination, they needed something like this. Especially after what they'd been through over the course of the past couple months. So Jack sat and waited.

Ianto was somewhat puzzled when he entered the living area after work and saw Jack sitting there with a determined expression. Oh dear. It seemed the captain had a plan. He had no idea what that plan was, since Jack had this tendency toward coming up with plans without actually telling Ianto. Not that he minded, of course. Jack could be very innovative when he wanted to be.

"Everything all right?" he asked over his shoulder as he walked into the bedroom and changed quickly and methodically out of his suit and into a pair of jeans, leaving just his shirt the same. After a whole day of wearing a suit at the museum, he tended to not want to wear them at home. "You look like you've been thinking rather hard...and we both know how dangerous that can be."

This was the epitome of a win-lose situation. On one hand, Jack got to see Ianto in jeans a bit more often. On the other, however, he no longer got to look at his lover cut a dapper figure in a suit. Yes, he just used the word 'dapper'. As far as plans went, Jack was fairly certain that Ianto would enjoy this one. And, worst case, they'd wind up back at the flat sooner rather than later.

"Everything's fine," Jack shouted in response. "Promise. And really, I'm not lying this time either." Rising from his perch, Jack crossed the flat to their room, leaning casually against the doorframe as he watched Ianto change. While he did miss Gwen terribly, it also was nice to have a place just to themselves. Jack also realised just how 'coupley' that sounded. Bugger.

"Good day at the office, honey?" Jack intoned, wearing a smirk. "Sorry, but there's no supper on the stove. You know how I hate being a kept woman."

"I know you're not lying," Ianto called back with a laugh. "I can tell." He shook his head. Jack really was far too easy to read sometimes. And other times, he was sure he would never completely know him. There was just so much to know. In some ways, seeing what he had been like in the past had helped him better understand the man Jack was now.

He rolled his eyes as he realised that Jack was watching him. "See something you like?" he teased, knowing it was a question that really didn't need asking. Jack always liked what he saw. But he still asked. It was just a fact at this point. Because somehow they'd fallen into a routine. A pattern. With domesticity and coupley-ness. And Ianto found that he didn't really mind.

"Oh it was lovely, dear," Ianto shot back. "Nice and quiet with no cheeky partners mouthing off." He grinned at Jack as he fastened his jeans, walking over and kissing him. "So," he asked, wrapping his arms around Jack's waist, "what were you thinking about?"

"Clarifying for a point of order," Jack replied. "You like making sure, even if you can tell." There was a smile on his face and Jack was enjoying the banter between them. They were better than they had been in the past, talking more about certain things. Or, at least, attempting to talk. Jack wasn't used to being so... well... open. Jack had to admit that, in spite of his instant desire to close himself off, it wasn't so bad sharing things.

Jack was very happy to watch Ianto change. He would have been happier if he stayed completely nude, but Jack would take what he could. "Oh... I might. Hard to say," Jack drawled. "You could leave the jeans off so I can make a proper inspection." Ianto didn't mind the coupley-ness and, stranger still -- Jack didn't either. They'd been through enough over the past couple of months that Jack had found he was happier in a relationship and a steady one at that... than his normal mode of operation. Not that he'd say anything to Ianto.

"And here I thought you liked it when I mouthed off," Jack retorted, pouting when Ianto finally fastened his jeans. The pout, however, was kissed away and Jack drew Ianto into his arms with a smile. "Oh, I was thinking about the fact that we have suddenly found ourselves with twenty thousand dollars and it might be nice to splurge a bit on ourselves. Namely... if you wanted to go out with me. Tonight.

"On a date."

Damn it -- it still was hard to get out.

"True enough," Ianto said with a smile, pleased by how well Jack knew him. He felt like they had made real progress in their relationship, and they were communicating better than they had before arriving in Colligo. They certainly weren't without their problems, but they had definitely grown as a couple. He almost laughed, thinking of how much they had both hated that word.

"If I left the jeans off," he said with a roll of his eyes at Jack's oh so helpful suggestion, "we would never leave the bedroom. And, while that is a rather pleasant prospect, some of us have to do other things now and again." He grinned, amused by the easy banter and already feeling the stresses from his day fade away in the face of the familiarity and comfort of home.

"I do like it when you mouth off," Ianto said fondly, content just to be close to Jack, kissing him. Of course, the suggestion of a date surprised him but made him smile. It had been a while since they'd really had a date. "I'd like that, a lot." As if he would say no to the offer of a date with Jack. He smiled suddenly. "But you know...a date doesn't actually have to mean going out. We could go pick up a film and dinner and bring it back here. That way, if the film is boring, we don't have to worry about getting into trouble." And they could make sure to pick a boring film.

They had made real progress -- particularly because Jack was willing to call what they had a 'relationship'. That was, perhaps, one of the biggest strides they had made since coming to Colligo. Yes, Jack hated the word couple... yet, he was starting to enjoy this whole thing. Partners. God, what would the Doctor say?

"Of course we'd leave the bedroom," Jack replied with a shrug of his shoulders. "There are other places within the flat. Living room... kitchen. And I didn't say they'd be staying off -- just off long enough to make the aforementioned inspection." Jack sighed, looking away momentarily. It was the reminder that he didn't have anything to do and he hated it. Jack didn't like being so sedentary. But at the same time -- there wasn't much he could really do, or that he wanted to do.

The visual of Jack flipping burgers? Not on your life.

"Is that mouth-off or get you off with my mouth?" Jack asked, a hint of a smirk colouring his expression. It had been a while since they'd been on a date and here, there were no Weevils to ruin it either. The smirk turned into a genuine smile, Jack drew Ianto in closer (if possible) and kissed him slowly. "Who's to say we'd get in trouble at the cinema if we went?" Jack asked, nipping gently at Ianto's lower lip. Right, this was them and Jack's inability to keep his hands to himself when it came to Ianto. Right. "That sounds like a fantastic idea to me. There's this new silent film I've been dying to see too." Jack was... hands down, one hell of an ass when he wanted to be.

"Let's see... start with Indian take-away. There's no pizza place around here as Jubilee." And hopefully the night in would distract Jack from the notion that he was, at present, very very bored.

And missing his Torchwood.

Ianto could really care less about what the Doctor had to say about anything. In spite of all the good the time lord had done, the fact remained that he had abandoned Jack and hurt him time and again, and for that he would always hold something against the Doctor. Jack deserved better than what the Doctor had given him, and he planned to spend the rest of his life, or as long as Jack would keep him around, showing Jack just how much he meant to him.

Ianto rolled his eyes, shaking his head at Jack. "You really are incorrigible," he scolded with mock seriousness. He noticed the brief change in Jack's expression and became more serious. "We should do something," he said. "I know there's no Rift here, but our talents must be good for something." He barely paused a moment before giving Jack a Look. "Not those talents, Jack. I was referring to work-related talents."

"Either," he considered, "both." He loved that expression, the smirk that showed that Jack was thinking about decidedly nice things. He leaned into the kiss, groaning low in his throat as Jack nipped at his lower lip. He pulled back a little and raised an eyebrow. "You know," he said thoughtfully, "I'd believe that innocent act if your hands weren't on my arse right now." He laughed, not at all surprised by Jack's antics. "A silent film, huh? They still make those?" Really, Jack. If you're going for a boring film, don't tell the archivist about a silent film. He'll probably find it fascinating.

"Indian sounds fantastic," Ianto said. "There's a great little place just by the movie rental place." He knew that Jack was getting twitchy, being in one place so long without Torchwood to occupy him, and he wanted to help however he could.

For as old as he was, Jack still sought the approval of the Doctor much like an over-excited puppy waiting to see its master and proving that it didn't piddle on the floor all day and oh boy, is it time for a walk yet? In truth, he probably always would want that approval, craving it like no other. It made no sense logically, not in the number of times the Doctor repeatedly pushed Jack aside. But still... he didn't profess to be logical all the time.

"I am not," Jack replied, trying to force the smile back onto his face. He knew it didn't quite reach his eyes, though. To anyone else they'd see the jovial captain back in place. Ianto, however, knew Jack well enough to know when something was bothering him -- and Jack couldn't deny that fact either. Though, there were times he wished he could. Damn this whole relationship and Jack falling so deeply in love.

"Both comes later," Jack replied with mock seriousness. God, Jack loved Ianto's facial expressions, loved the way he could elicit those groans tinged with an accent. There was nothing better in the world in Jack's not-so-humble opinion. "There is nothing at all untoward about where my hands are at the present," Jack replied. "You had a long day and I'm simply making sure you haven't worked your arse off." Bad pun number one of the evening. "Probably not. But I figured it would be something boring I could distract you from..." Jack trailed off, a look of abject horror coming to his features. "On second thought? We're getting a horror film. Something that you won't take a sudden interest in watching. Or a document--" he broke off. "No, same side effect. And, for the record, no Bond either."

Jack smiled and regrettably unwound himself from Ianto so they could pick up dinner and come back here as soon as humanly possible. Jack wanted to get back and lose himself in Ianto for a while -- and forget about the fact that he had absolutely nothing to do. Ianto had to know how it was grating on Jack, no matter what he did to occupy his mind. "C'mon. Let's get our coats and get out of here, yeah?"

"Jack," Ianto said with a fond but exasperated smile, "you are. It's part of your charm." He looked at Jack for a moment, as if ascertaining what was wrong, then spoke again. "We could always set up something. Investigations and such. I could give notice at the museum and it could be good...get back into our normal sort of work as much as we can here." Because he couldn't stand Jack feeling miserable and purposeless.

"Is it later yet?" Ianto asked with a cheeky smile. It was so easy to fall into this sort of flirtatious banter with Jack. He couldn't imagine his life without the other man and this relationship. "Have you assured yourself that my arse is still there?" he asked with a roll of his eyes at the terrible pun. "Never been a fan of horror," Ianto said, wrinkling his nose. "And as for Bond? I know it all by heart. If there's anything I can stand to be distracted from, it's that. I don't need to see it to know what's going on." He paused. "But for the love of god, no Lazenby."

Ianto was as much disinclined to break out of their embrace as Jack was. Dinner and a film...interrupted by sex...was their sort of domestic, and he was looking forward to it tonight. "All right then," he said, pulling Jack in for one last kiss and then releasing him. "Let's go and get back here quickly."

Now that... didn't seem like such a bad idea. Actually, it sounded downright fantastic. There was no Hub, no Rift... nothing to keep his attention constantly. But a PI firm? Now that could be a very nice bit of distraction for a while too. And best of all, it would make Jack feel like he was needed rather than being a bump on a log stuck at home while Ianto worked. "You'd give up your job though?" Jack asked softly. "If you're happy -- I'm not going to pull you away from what you like and want to do. What sort of partner would I be?"

The smile returned to his face and this time it did meet his eyes. He pulled Ianto in closer (if that was even possible by this point." "I think your arse is exactly where it should be, though I can make a more indepth check later. Looking now and there won't be anything resembling a date." In other words, Jack would have Ianto on the bed and they wouldn't move again until morning... in a manner of speaking, of course.

Jack didn't want to move but, at last, he did step away from Ianto with that final kiss. He gathered up their coats, going so far as to nicely hand Ianto his overcoat, though he knew better than to slip his own coat on. With a smile, he held it out to Ianto and, after sliding his own on, led the way out of the flat.

"Near the rental place you said?" Jack asked, falling into step beside Ianto, body half against his. For warmth. Yes, for warmth. "Whatever you pick for a film tonight, it better be something you don't mind not seeing." Jack had plans.
