Someone actually had the guts to kidnap me?

You're either a masochist or an idiot. Either way, big mistake. You're definitely going to bleed for this one.

Hey, I'm just calling it like I see it. If you developed Stockholm Syndrome out of one odd not-so-long kidnapping, have it your way.

Your interactions with Daddy dearest? Not usually this positive.

Watch how you talk about my dad, Tesla. And what would you know about it anyway? I really do not like this pla You two are hardly the closest of friends.

That depends on whose perspective you're coming from, my dear.

Tell me. What's yours?

What do you mean, what's my perspective? How am I supposed to answer a question like that? My dad is my dad.

Your history, your setting. I mean, I'm pretty sure your mother wouldn't be too keen on you being all chummy with him, so I'm assuming your situation is different.

If you enjoy being alive, I would strongly suggest you not talk about my mother.

Shan't I? And why would that be?

You know, you might be tricky to kill but actually removing your head physically from your body will do the job quite nicely. Considering I do not miss my mark when I have one, I would really suggest you keep that in mind before you go spouting off about things that you know nothing about. Which, if you're bringing up my mother, clearly you do not.

Which would be why I asked 'why would that be?'.

Only temporarily. This place might be a bit choosy about who it brings here and when, but I'm sure it will scoop her back up eventually.

Tell me something, Tesla. Has this place managed to screw with you enough that you actually want to die? Because unless you stop talking about my mother right this instant, that is precisely what is going to happen to you. Not even my father will keep me from

Nice? How can that possibly be construed as being nice? You dangle her in front of me with a big maybe, which means odds are I will not get to see her and then you

Brief question. And humor me.

Are you a vampire right now?

No. I am definitely not, and pretty sure I have never been, a vampire.

Second question. Another small one.

How long have you known your father, exactly?

Fifteen years, give or take a few months.

My turn. What's with all the questions?

You can do that without bothering my daughter.

Besides, you know damn well Helen is dead.

Bringing her up only serves to upset us Ashley.

I can say the same. But then, I don't make a habit of digging up corpses.

Do not push this, Tesla. I only have so much control, and I see no reason to waste it on your behalf.

Strangely enough, I believe you.

Helen died fifteen years ago...when Ashley was nine. I may not be the sort of man most would trust with children, but Ashley is my daughter. I was hardly going to leave her to deal with that on her own. Henry was an unexpected tag-along, but it seemed unfair to ask her to leave him behind.

Fifteen years. Well. I can see why it would be a sore spot, then.

And that's fifteen years longer than the Helen I know.
