The day of the move couldn't have come soon enough for Letha. Danvers had been strange, but they had only been there a couple of days; she hadn't really even gotten a handle on everything that had been going on before they were re-settled in Rome. It should have been better, so much better than the dark little Massachusetts town they had just left. It had been so promising!
But then everything had gone to hell. It was hard to imagine getting burned out on Italy so quickly, but she had. Along with everything else, it seemed like. Marco, at least, was ready to go. She could feel the tension in him, sense his anxiety and sense of foreboding every day that they opened their eyes there. His distress pulled at her, and she knew she had been as clingy toward him as he had been hover-y toward her. Cooking and baking hadn't helped, making herself available while she helped out around the damaged Midway hadn't seemed to ease him very much. A little, but not enough.
She was hoping that getting out of Ostia would do the trick, but the move was still hours away, and if she was feeling restless and anxious, she knew that Marco must be as well. At the very least that he would smell it on her and react in kind. The decision that came from this was impulsive, maybe silly – but she went with it before she could change her mind. Slipping out of their trailer, she wove a complicated path around the grounds, spreading her scent out before settling. The first stop was the Carousel, where she took cover in one of the sleigh-style seats before tapping out a text, the cool-water scent of her pooling there with every passing moment.
