Family Night
Who: Lindsey, Lilah, and Vikki
Where: Caritas
When: Saturday Night, Aug 7th (Sorry this took so long to post!)
Lindsey wasn't too sure why he had let Vikki talk all of them into coming to Cartias tonight. She seemed to have it in her head that they should get out a little more 'as a family,' which only seemed to be freaking out Lilah all the more. He knew that she was doing it because she wanted to make sure that she was born, even though he kept telling her that she wouldn't exactly disappear if she wasn't (as had already been displayed with Abbie McConnell), but she listened about as well as her mother did. He looked over at Vikki. "Alright, we're here," he said to her, looking around. He'd had to bribe the hell out of the doorman to get him to let Vikki inside, plus with the promise that he wouldn't let her drink anything alcoholic.
Vikki was thrilled that she'd managed to convince her parents to come out with her to Caritas. Her mom of course had said no and yet they'd still managed to drag her out tonight. "It's a very cool place..can I order a Shirley temple?" She asked her father.
Lilah looked around and then over at Lindsey. "Why are we doing this again?" she asked him, wishing she was anywhere, but here.
"That doesn't have any alcohol in it does it?" Lindsey asked, inwardly cringing because he already sounded kind of like a dad.
He looked at Lilah. "Because she wouldn't let up about it. Now have a drink and try to have a decent time, OK?"
"It's red fruity and full of just sugary goodness." Vikki told him with a smile, before breaking away to find a table.
Lilah sighed. "You could've just put your foot down and said no,besides it's just too weird..and to make matters worse you brought us to a Demon karaoke bar." she pointed out, before ordering a glass of scotch.
"Then go order one," Lindsey said to her. He looked back at Lilah when Vikki left. "I can't. She's YOU in a smaller form, which means she basically renders me powerless when she wants something. And SHE suggested the place. Plus, nothing can happen to her, or YOU for that matter, here. So quit your bitching and have your scotch."
Vikki smiled and went off to get her drink, completely oblivious to her parents fighting.
Lilah rolled her eyes at him and sighed. "She is not a mini version of me, she's nothing like me.." Lilah insisted as she watched Vikki, who was being all bubbly and bouncy now that she had sugar.
"HA!" Lindsey snapped. "Apparently you haven't actually interacted with her on a daily basis like I have then," he pointed out to her. "Now stop freaking out so damn much and try having a good time. I know it's in you."
"No I've been working and having to deal with the new girl.." Lilah said as she slowly sipped her drink. She watched Vikki for a few moments trying to see if just maybe Lindsey was right.
Vikki was drinking her temple and bouncing along to the music. "And I don't bounce.." Lilah added after a moment.
"Who, Charlotte?" Lindsey asked her. "They making you show her around or something? She doesn't seem that bad." He looked toward Vikki. "And I'm willing to bet that you bounced at one point in your life."
Lilah sighed. "Yes her and I don't do cases with baby lawyers Lindsey." She looked over at Vikki and rolled her eyes. "Okay maybe once.."
"You're going to have to get to know more people at that place than just me, Lilah," he pointed out to her. "Hell, you working with someone else will be good for you. You might even make a friend."
Lilah took her drink and found an empty table to sit down at. "I do just fine with work and there's no way in hell Charlotte and I are going to be friends." She looked over at Vikki who was dancing with some boy. "Explain her to me again?"
"You never know," Lindsey joked, taking a sip of his own drink that he had ordered and sat down at a table with Lilah. "You could stand a few friends other than me." He glanced toward Vikki again. "What do you want me to explain again? She's a daughter of us from a timeline that is now extinct, actually."
"And why is just having you so bad? You I actually like for starters and we actually trust each other..well to a degree anyway." Lilah sipped her drink. She looked at Vikki and sighed. "The how you know about said now extinct time line for starters and then everything else, because I'm still having trouble with the whole we were happily married had a kid thing.."
Vikki was still on the dance floor having a blast.
"Trusting more than one person wouldn't kill you...well, maybe in our line of work, but she doesn't seem too bad," he told her. "And timeline stuff is screwy. I know because plenty of other people in the city ended up with kids coming in from the future as well, plus the former 'Lord of Time' got fired from his job because of the fact that too many came through and sort of killed the timeline. It would do you good to pay attention to stuff other than what goes on outside of Wolfram & Hart's walls on occasion."
Lilah looked at him and sighed. "And she claims I actually marry you?" Charlotte as far as she was concerned was more annoying than he realized. Lilah sipped her drink some more ,when he brought up the firm and her paying attentiuon to things outside of it Lilah rolled her eyes. "I pay attention to things outside of them.." She watched as Vikki came over with another temple.
Vikki came over to their table and sat down. "So have you guys picked a song?" She had gone over to talk to Lorne earlier. "I'm thinking of going with "Just like Jesse James"
Lilah looked at her and then at Lindsey in panic. "What? Lindsey what is she talking about? You never said I'd have to sing?! You said there'd be drinking and a 'fun' night out ,there was no mention of singing."
Vikki tried and failed to keep from giggling.
"Apparently you did," Lindsey said to her with a smirk. "Maybe I'm more charming in this other timeline, or you're a little less icy one." Sadly he was the only one who could really get away with saying crap like that to her. He actually started laughing when Lilah started to freak out at the idea of singing. "I've heard you sing before when you thought no one was listening in your office," he told her. "You've got a great voice. Besides, people come here to sing and have their fortunes read, right? Have some fun with it!"
Lilah looked at him. "Okay this slight stalker thing you,not cute and I'm not singing." She finished off her drink as Vikki just smiled at them. "It's so cute you two still do this all the time you know."
"Oh good lord, everyone can hear you sing in the office, Lilah," Lindsey pointed out to her. He looked toward Vikki. "Not helping in the 'not freaking Lilah out' department, you know."
Lilah glared at him and Vikki shrugged. "What I can't help that you two bicker like you're an old married couple.. not that you know you're that old.. "She sipped her drink.
"Glare at me all you want to, everyone still hears it," Lindsey said to her. "Hell, Bill in accounting was the one who pointed it out to me."
Lilah got up and went to get another drink. Vikki looked at him. "Well this is fun.."
"It's delightful, ain't it?" Lindsey said, taking a sip of his drink. "Lilah's not much of a public singer apparently. Not too shocking."
"I remember now, and you two do really do fight like you're married already, and yes you still do that or you know did.." Vikki looked over at her mother. "It's a miracle that you got her to stop drinking for nine months, seeing as you both seem to mainline booze and caffeine."
"Mainlining booze and caffeine is what keeps lawyers alive," Lindsey pointed out to Vikki. "Most would go nuts without them, which sort of amazes me that she didn't." He looked at Vikki. "Were we really happy there?"
"Yeah you were, you were crazy about each other. Even if it did take you three proposals before she said yes. Oh and you guys fight about naming me too, and Uncle Roger tries to help, you two don't usually get along. Oh and Mom has friends other than you." Vikki told him.
"I know she has a friend named Roger," Lindsey said to her. "Beyond that, I've never seen her socialize with anyone. I was pretty sure she didn't have any." He shrugged. "Wouldn't kill her to have more, though."
"Well there's her assistant." Vikki said, just as Lilah came back over with a martini.
He shrugged. "Good point." He looked up as Lilah came back.
Lilah sat down next to Lindsey again. "What'd you two talk about?" she asked as she looked between him and Vikki.
"Not too much," Lindsey said to her, sipping some more at his drink. "Just trying to get to know each other."
"Great.." Lilah sipped her martini.
"Well, don't you just sound oh so delighted?" Lindsey asked. He had half a mind to go and sign Lilah up for a song just to spite her.
Lilah sighed and drank more of her martini. She wouldn't admit it,but she was a tiny bit jealous of Lindsey and he's seemingly instant bond he had with Vikki.
If she had said that aloud, Lindsey wouldn't be surprised at all, to be honest.
"So...awkward silences are fun, right?" Vikki asked.
Lilah did her best to try and ignore Vikki and just looked around the club. She was a little surprised that Lorne hadn't made it over to them yet. She knew that Lindsey was one of his favorite patrons.
Lindsey was one of his favorite patrons, but tonight seemed to be a busy night, because Lorne was talking to every patron who sang on the stage. "Looks like it's busy tonight," Lindsey said as he watched the stage for a bit.
"Yeah.." Lilah said as she sipped her drink and glanced at the stage.
"So, who knows, you might be able to avoid singing," Lindsey said with a laugh.
"With our luck not likely." Lilah said with a sigh. "I think you should sing, Dad's right you're good." Vikki added.
Lindsey sighed. "You act like you singing would be a bad thing," he said to her. "Besides, Vikki's right. You are good."
"Mom you should just do it,besides we both know Dad has ways of making you do stuff.." Vikki said with a small smirk. Lilah sighed and looked at the two of them. "Okay maybe."
"Vikki, that's disturbing the way you put it," he said, looking at her for a second before turning his attention back to Lilah. "Just have another drink before hand. It'll make it a lot easier."
Vikki shrugged. "Hey not my fault that you two are disgustingly in love." Lilah ignored her and looked at Lindsey. "Fine, one song and that's it."
Lindsey smiled. "Alright, I'll even let you pick if that will make you feel better."
Lilah smiled back a little. "It will." Vikki walked off to get another Temple. Lilah watched her go and then looked back at Lindsey.
Lindsey watched Vikki wander off then turned his attention back to Lilah. "Fine. What do you want to sing?"
"No idea and I still have one more drink coming so.. " She watched as Vikki chatted with the bartender. "You don't find it weird that she knows things about us,that haven't actually happened yet?"
"A little," Lindsey admitted, "but I guess I'm just used to it by now." He did talk to her a lot more than Lilah did, though.
Lilah sighed. "Are we sure she's telling the truth?" she asked quickly followed by, "Forget I asked.. So I guess you're what the good parent or whatever?" Lilah asked before taking a sip of her drink.
When Lilah asked if she was telling the truth, he simply shrugged. He had nothing to really go on but his gut, but his instinct said she was telling the truth. "Don't say that," he said about the last thing she said. "I think she's just more used to me."
Lilah sighed and sipped her drink. It had been a long day and this outing just wasn't helping her mood any.
Lindsey's eyes flickered over to Vikki. "Loosen up a bit, Lil'," he said to her. "Who knows. If you do, you might have a little bit of fun."
"I have plenty of fun." she informed Lindsey just before Vikki came back over to them holding a temple and a very pink cotton candy Cosmo.
"Yeah, you look like it," Lindsey said to her. He looked over at Vikki. "And just what in god's name is that?" he asked, looking at the drink. It looked like liquid cotton candy to him.
Lilah rolled her eyes at him. Vikki smiled brightly as she came back to the table with the drinks. "It's a cotton candy Cosmo."
"I...didn't realize they made those," Lindsey said, feeling his stomach turn at the thought of just that much sugar. "And that drink had better be a virgin one."
"Well they don't normally, but Lorne said it was on the house, and it is.." Vikki said as she looked at both of the with a smile.
Lindsey nodded and gave a slight sigh of relief. He had no interest in dealing with a drunk teenager, after all. "Good," he said to her. He looked back at Lilah. "So, thought of a song yet?"
Lilah nodded and then took a sip of Vikki's drink. "It's not a virgin."
Lindsey reached for the drink and took a sip. "She's right. It's not." He stood up. "I'll go get you another one."
Lilah smiled as Lindsey started to get up from the table. Vikki frowned. "But Dad.." She whined. "It's just one!"
He looked at her. "If you hadn't of led about it, I might have let you have it," he pointed out to her, internally wondering when he had acquired that 'parent voice.'
Vikki sighed dramatically and folded her arms. She sat in the booth pouting. Lilah looked at Lindsey, she was kind of impressed by his whole parental thing. "It's kind of scary how good you are at that you know."
"I'm a little freaked out by it as well," Lindsey admitted with a slight chuckle. "And you can pout all you want. Still getting you the non-alcoholic drink," he said, leaving and doing just that.
Lilah looked over at Vikki as Lindsey left to go get her the non alcohol version of her drink. "He's right you know,if you hadn't lied you might've had a slightly better shot."
Vikki sighed. "Maybe," she said with a slight shrug. "How many sixteen year olds are gonna admit to wanting alcohol, though? Really?"
"I've known a few." Lilah answered her.
That actually made Vikki laugh. She had actually loved her mother's blunt honesty. She was glad that it seemed to have been something that she had always had. Any connection to her past was a good thing.
"So.." Lilah didn't really like small talk and she felt even more awkward trying to make small talk with Vikki.
Lucky for her that's when Lindsey returned huh? He came back to the table, alcohol free drink in hand, placing it in front of Vikki. "Here you go," he said. "You have no idea how fun it is to walk through a bar of demons with a pink drink, by the way."
Lilah smirked at him. "Aw it must be so hard to be you.." Vikki just smiled and took the drink from him.
