RP: Lunch!
Characters: Benjy, Ron
Time/Date: Lunch, November 10
Location: Ministry lunch room
Warnings/Rating: None
Summary: Benjy is sleepy but reading
Status: Complete

This morning's training had been ... better. Not as horrifically frustrating as prior days had been, but they were definitely refining their communication techniques. There was a learning curve, after all, and they just had to figure out how to relate to one another.

So that was getting better. He didn't feel quite so patronized anymore, and his trainers generally gave him a sort of look and he'd learned to respond to that if he needed elaboration or not on any particular point of 'standard' knowledge.

It wasn't horrific, but it was still daunting. He thought he was doing all right though.

With a book on the table in front of him, Benjy was working through his lunch while reading up on the latest theories regarding the returning dead. It was ... naturally ... of significant interest to him. None of them seemed right, but he wasn't sure any theory would seem right.

Once he finished the packet on those theories, Benjy brushed away the crumbs and pulled the charms book closer to him. "A drone's work is never done," he said with a sigh, though he grinned as he said it.

"You're telling me," Ron said from his spot at a table nearby. Or tried to say. Around a mouthful of sandwich. It was right around then that he looked thoughtful for a moment, swallowed, and then repeated his statement with more clarity and a warm smile.

He could be polite. Shocking, but true.

A closer glance to the man he was talking to left him with vague feelings of familiarity and a name on the tip of his tongue. Like it was someone he should know, someone he'd seen around but who's name he had forgotten. He'd always been really bad with remembering details like that.

He half moved to extend a hand to introduce himself and felt sudden jarring pain from his arm and shoulder - he wasn't completely recovered yet, much to his annoyance, and the occasional movement caused pain, but it was certainly a lot better than it had been - and the introduction slipped from his mind in the wince of pain. He tried to brush it off though, smiling again and nodding to the book, "What are you studying, you don't mind me asking?"

Benjy grinned over to the ginger man who was probably a Weasley, and on closer inspection proved to be more likely than not Ron Weasley. He wasn't completely unfamiliar with the senior Aurors after all.

While he didn't miss the wince, he figured that was one of those things best not commented on, and for once actually held his tongue.

"I can't tell you," he said solemnly. "I'm training to be an Unspeakable, and if we speak about ... anything ... they sever our tongues."

He laughed quietly and lifted the book so Ron could see the cover. "Experimental charms," he clarified. "To see if I like it. I'm still in that whole 'trying to find out what I want to not speak about' phase of training."

Tilting his head, he wondered if he should do introductions since it seemed to him Ron had started it before his thoughts had apparently been derailed. "I'm Benjy," he offered. "Fenwick."

He blinked, wondering if that was meant to be true or a joke. He opened his mouth to speak, closed it because he didn't want to sound like a fool, furrowed his brow a bit and then said, "Reckoned it was just specific cases you lot we're supposed to speak of. They don't even let you give details on the training?"

Though... that made sense? Maybe? Or was he implying that he thought Unspeakables were meant to go mute?

Oh joke. Hahaha. He was much clearer on it now, and tilted his head curiously to look at the cover of the book he was reading. Seemed a bit complicated for his own tastes, but interesting enough. "That how it works? You leaning towards anything in particular or still all up in the air?"

Oh right. He'd been introducing himself. He stuck out his uninjured hand this time. "Ron Weasley. And my mother would kill me if she knew that I was being this impolite when meeting new people, so I'd appreciate it if you not tell her, yeah? I was brought up to be better trained than this."

He grinned, and shrugged and shook his head. "So far, the only thing I'm completely against is potions, but that's just fine because they don't want me blowing things up down there anyway." Which would inevitably happen. Repeatedly. Truthfully though, everything looked very interesting and he was eager to get a taste of all of it.

"By the time I'm done training, I'll probably have it figured out," he assured Ron. "Or ask Cas to pick for me," he added with a quiet laugh. Though that wasn't a horrific idea. Maybe he'd run that by Cas later - see what she thought of the various fields and where she saw him training.

Benjy nodded, though he'd pretty much guessed that. "Pleasure to meet you officially and formally, Mr Weasley," he said as he took the hand to shake gently - just in case it was injured as well. "Suppose I won't go tattle on you," he added cheekily. "Though I have been meaning to stop in on Molly and Arthur. Just to say hello ..."

"I was bloody awful at potions back in school," Ron said, scrunching his face in annoyance. "Don't think it helped much who the professor was at the time. Don't know how anyone was supposed to score well with his grading. Honestly. Completely ruined the subject for me."

Well, that wasn't true. He'd never really been able to wrap his mind around potions. It just didn't interest him. He liked instant gratification, and potions... didn't offer that so much for him.

"Cas?" he asked, before he wondered if that was the sort of offhand comment he was meant to let slide and not comment on. His gaze turned shifty for a moment and he moved on in order to give Benji the opportunity to ignore his potentially rude question.

The way he used Ron's parent's names so casually in his sentence gave Ron the feeling of familiarity again, and he went over the name in his head Fenwick Fenwick Fenwick until it clicked into place. "Fenwick," he said triumphantly, snapping his fingers as he pointed at the bloke. And then... erm. The history there. He winced a bit, though this time it was more in sympathy for his demise than because of the pain in his shoulder. "Well. I. Er. Appreciate the silence all the same there, mate. Reckon they wouldn't mind a visit if you wanted to pop in. Probably tell you all about how none of us kids ever bother to anymore," he grinned a bit at that, before he frowned as he realized the truth of it. He thought he might mention it to Hermione, if he remembered later.

"You had Professor Snape, right?" he guessed. He looked about that age, and while Benjy was half inclined to ask Ron if he knew Lily Evans at all, he figured it was best not to give the first impression of a gossiper. Because he wasn't; it wasn't really gossip, right? It was just ... asking if they had a mutual friend in common with one another. But all the same, he grinned knowingly, nodding his head as if he knew exactly what Ron meant.

"Ah. Dorcas. Meadowes. Recently returned as well and my ... ah. Girlfriend," he admitted, though he was still getting used to the concept of having a girlfriend.

He was highly amused by Ron's realization and then second realization. He laughed softly and waved it off. It was history, it was past, and he'd be more careful this time around. "I'll do that then. Maybe drag Cas along with me. Your mum still cooks, right?" He really wasn't above leaning on people for actual cooked food that wasn't take-away.

"Snape, yeah," Ron said. "Probably one of the one classes to actually have him as a Potions prof, since he switched to defense in our sixth and then... well..." Ron had never really know what to make of what he considered to be Snape's sudden switch to the side of Order. He understood it in theory, and he respected the man for it and all, but it didn't mean that had to like the man. Probably best that he didn't say too much about him if he could avoid it. Then again, he'd never been all that great at that.

"Ah, right then," he said with a nod. The name... sounded familiar too, but he figured it wasn't much of his business to pry too deep, particular with the hesitation around speaking her name. It was probably a new thing, he thought. But he had a point of reference, that was all that mattered.

"Mum still cooks," he said with a grin. "Probably enough to feed a family, even though it's just her and Dad now. She'd probably like the company if you wanted to drop by. Tell you all about how the return from the dead left you far too skinny."

Benjy nodded slightly to Ron's assessment, wondering if Lily knew anything more about that. Deciding it wasn't anything he particularly cared about, he was content enough to let it go.

He grinned and wondered if this conversation was awkward for Ron. Or if he didn't know of Cas. Really, Benjy wasn't sure how much their names actually would have been around. They certainly weren't history book material ... just casualties. After all, most of the world wasn't going to know that they'd been in the Order and working against Voldemort.

"Maybe I will do just that," Benjy agreed with a soft laugh before he noted the time. "And speaking of food, looks like my break's about over. Nice meeting you," he said with a grin as he started to gather up his things to head out. "Back to the salt mines," he quipped playfully.

Ron pulled a face, glaring at the clock a bit. "I need a Time-Turner," he decided finally before he cleared off his table, tossing his trash in the bin and offering a smile to Benji. "Thanks. It was good to meet you. Should I tell Mum and Dad to expect you, or would you rather surprise them?"

He grinned a bit at that, and thought he might like to see it. His mum answering the door and being all bewildered and confused because Benji was supposed to be dead, before remembering she'd read about him in the prophet and then bustling about. He thought it would be good for her, though - he was pretty bad about visiting, and he didn't think Bill, Charlie or George was any better. Ginny might be, but that was a girl thing. Girls were better about that. He thought Hermione saw a lot more of her mother than he did.

Really something he needed to keep in mind next weekend.

Benjy laughed quietly. "Think I'll surprise them. It'll be more fun all around," he said with a grin. Unless he gave one of them a heart attack, but his name had been in the paper as a returned formerly deceased, so he wasn't too worried about that part.

"See you 'round," he said as he lifted a hand in a wave to Ron, whistling as he gathered up his books to head out.
