Who: Rosalie, Shiloh, and Aaron
What: Looking for the absentee resident of 1007
Where: 1st floor
When: After this and this.
Warnings: None, as of yet.

Knowing that she had upset Daniel too much to have an effective talk with him anymore, Rosalie followed Jude’s directions and left the roof to find Singer, taking with her the bag with the alcohol. She was positive that she hadn’t gotten everything, but since she was also planning a return trip- with reinforcements- then whatever bottles were still lying around would have to wait.

By the time she reached her apartment, Rosalie’s plan of action was to get Singer and return immediately to the roof, where Daniel would hopefully be sleeping. They could finish cleaning the place up so that by the time he woke up, there would be nothing he could do but deal with it. She realized that unfortunately, Jude did have a point: Daniel wasn’t going to recover unless he wanted to. Which, at the moment, seemed unlikely. But hopefully Singer could help with that problem, and either way, Rosalie wasn’t about to let him just drink himself away while he was supposed to be recovering.

Depositing the trash bag in her room, to be dealt with later, she quickly made her way up to the tenth floor, where she was surprised to find Singer’s door completely open and no one inside the apartment. The hallway was deserted as well, and Rosalie couldn’t stop her rising sense of foreboding. Empty. And then she thought of Daniel’s wounds and wondered if maybe whoever had caused them had come back for Singer too.

Frantically, she thought to who Singer knew and her panicked thoughts settled on Shane and 601. Shutting the door to 1007, she rushed to the stairs, where she was immediately confronted with a knife. Why was there a knife? Turning away blindly, she hopped into the elevator without thinking, and by the time she realized how stupid that was, it had deposited her on the first floor and refused to budge.

Shiloh was on his way out to the grocery store when Rosalie stepped off the elevator on the first floor. When he saw her, he stopped. Trenton had seen her home safely, it looked like, and he nodded in her direction; the nod a casual thing.

He would have kept moving toward the front door of the building, but he caught the expression on her face and it made him change direction, head toward her. "What is wrong?"

She didn't see him for a second, too busy banging uselessly on the button for the sixth floor. "No no no," moaning to herself. "Merde." She looked up when Shiloh spoke, his question penetrating her frantic state of mind. There were too many things that she didn't want to answer with- Singer, Daniel, missing, hurt- but she managed to calm down enough to make what she hoped was a sane gesture at the panel of buttons. "Oh! Shi!. There's...it's...elevator."

Shiloh tugged her hand away from the button, and he pushed it himself, watching as the button lit up for his touch. He looked over at her, and he intended to ask her what was wrong again, but his vision hazed and went unfocused.

"The parapet shelters
that which you seek,
while Little changes.
"

He blinked, focusing back in, unaware that he'd spoken, and he pushed the elevator button again. "Does this have anything to do with Aaron?" he asked, because Aaron hadn't spoken since Shiloh had gotten him back into the apartment. In fact, Shiloh had been heading out to buy some orange juice, in the hopes that it would make him feel better. He'd assumed Aaron was sick, but maybe he'd been wrong.

"The what?" Shiloh's words threw her off, and for a moment Rosalie forgot what she was trying to do. "That which I seek? You- Have you seen Singer?" The unfocused expression on his face added a new facet to her worry. "Are you alright?" She was aware that she was asking too many questions for anyone to reasonably keep track of, but nothing that was happening was making any sense to her right now. "Who's Aaron?"

He didn't understand her confusion, but he assumed it had to do with whatever had her so worked up, so he answered slowly and enunciated carefully. "I don't know anyone named Singer, but Aaron lives with me. He's my br ward. I found him sitting on the stairs a while ago, and he was, is in shock or sick. I thought maybe you'd come about him?"

"Singer's this...girl. I need to find her. Something- I don't know what's happened," Rosalie admitted. At least Shiloh's perfect calm enabled her to collect herself a little as she tried to understand the last part of his words.

"You found him on the stairs?" She remembered the knife. Not good. Without thinking, she hit the button for the elevator's emergency stop. Fortunately, the elevator continued on it's own agenda and didn't stop for several more seconds, when it opened back up on the first floor. Rosalie stared at it in bewilderment for a moment, then shook her head, knowing that it wasn't worth the time spent thinking about it.

"I did find him on the stairs," he said, then decided to just give in and do what the elevator wanted. He stepped out, and he kept his hand on the door. "Do you want to come and talk to him? Maybe he'll say something to you," he suggested.

He trusted Rosalie, he realized, even as he held the elevator door open for her.

Rosalie could go up and look for Shane who might know something about Singer, or she could go with Shiloh and talk to Aaron, who had apparently been upset by something in the stairwell. Recently. She was barely even aware that she had made a decision until she stepped out of the elevator, past Shiloh, and onto the first floor. "Yes, please."

Shiloh let go of the door when Rosalie stepped out of the elevator, and he walked ahead of her to 104. He slipped his kwy in the lock and he turned it, but he didn't open it yet. "He doesn't like to be touched," he cautioned, then he pushed open the door.

"Aaron, Rosalie came to see you. She's looking for someone named Singer?"

Shiloh's statement confused Rosalie slightly, but she nodded at him anyway and the emotion dissipated for the most part. Her blind panic had long since vanished with Shiloh's steady presence, but as Rosalie stepped into 104, most of her head was still preoccupied with worry. On the surface there was an uncertain fearfulness for Singer's well-being, but concern over Daniel's predicament lingered stronger below that, and every so often her mind would flicker to the roof, whispering worst-case scenarios.

Aaron was curled on one end of his couch, the couch facing the one against the wall in the middle of the living room, lost in a heap of jackets and sweatshirts and off-color blankets. He was still a little dazed from his impact with Wednesday, a girl that was a tightly compacted whirlwind of emotion and conflict. Every once and a while he would get a twinge of guilt or panic that he had to sort out as hers and not his. His eyes were on the door even before Shiloh came in, and they immediately transferred to Rosalie behind him. Defensive, alert, and tense, Aaron's eyes narrowed uncertainly and then he shook his head. "I don't know who that is."

Shiloh looked at Rosalie as he closed the door, then he walked to the couch where Aaron was. He was talking and that, at least, was an improvement. Shiloh looked at him carefully, closely, trying to decide if it was okay to let Rosalie stay, if Aaron could handle it. In the end, he decided it was fine - at least for the time being.

He looked back at Rosalie. "Rosalie was coming from upstairs, Aaron. Why don't you tell us what happened to you on the stairs. It might involve the girl she's looking for, Singer."

There was a little disappointment, that Aaron didn't seem to know how to help her, then another rush of worry on Singer's behalf. "Please?," she added. "I just came down to look for her and she was gone from her apartment. And there was a knife lying in the stairwell-" Rosalie broke off as she began to get upset, because panicking again wasn't going to do a thing.

[Following this.]

Aaron was walking rapidly down the hallway, whereupon he quickly reached the stairs, since 104 was only three doors down from the grand staircase that wound upward. He was scowling mood, such that the expression was permanently set on the long features and sensitive mouth, and he climbed the stairs with a funny stamping gait that was the result of having his hands shoved in his sweatshirt front pocket. "You just wanna try R1 first?" he asked, grumpily, as she hurried up behind him.

Misery had crept into the edges of Rosalie's emotions. Singer was still missing, Shiloh was upset, and Daniel was the worst alcoholic she'd ever seen and apparently suicidal to boot. She didn't know what to do about any of the situations except the last one, and Daniel didn't even want to be helped.

Catching up to Aaron right before the second floor, she thought back to what he had said earlier- Singer had gotten up and run back up the stairs. She sighed. "We might as well." Then she glanced at him, worried. "I thought it made you feel-" Bad? Depressed? Rosalie didn't know how to describe it so she gestured vaguely and hoped he understood.

"I'm not going to stay," he said, firmly, watching his tennis shoes walk up in front of him. If you looked real hard, you could see what color his socks were at the seams, but he wasn't going to ask Shiloh for money. "I'm just going to look, and if she's there she probably left something at the door." He wasn't touching anything, just walking straight up the center of the steps, blinking only occasionally. "You're the girl Shiloh was talking about the one time he had to get bailed out, huh?"

"Left something?" Rosalie repeated blankly. She dragged her hand along the rail as she smoothly kept pace with him up the stairs. Sighing as he mentioned her accidental arrest, she wondered how much he knew about Shiloh and what he did. "That was me," she admitted. "It kind of sucked."

Rather than explaining himself and his methods, Aaron looked at her sideways, frowning a little bit. "Yeah, I guess. I never would have thought you..." Cough. "Never mind." The passed the thirteenth floor, and then stopped at the end of the penthouse hallway.

Rosalie halted momentarily in the middle of the hallway, crossing her arms and giving him a scowl. "I'm not! It was a misunderstanding! I told Shiloh that." She sounded very put out, although she resumed walking after another second.

Aaron winced. Oops. He totally just called the hot blonde a whore. Way to go. "Sorry. I didn't know, and he didn't want to talk about it." Once they were in the penthouse floor, Aaron drifted to the opposite side of the hall facing the doors, preferring to avoid unnecessary contact. He stopped on the foot of the stair and put his hand over the railing, frowning at the positive flurry of emotions sank into his senses. Aaron clenched his teeth. "Well... hell. You'd think fewer people would be going up here... doesn't the guy never come out?" And he started to climb.

"It's not like you were the only one who thought so," Rosalie shrugged, still a little cross. "Trenton had a field day with it." She watched his face as he touched the rails, "He doesn't seem too happy about them all either," following him up the stairs.

Aaron didn't like being in R1's hallway. He lost a couple shades of color on his face, and his jaw stayed taut, but he didn't freeze. He put a hand out again, reluctantly this time, and brushed the air in front of the door. "Yeah. She's in there." Aaron enthusiastically shoved his hand back into his jacket, and then looked at Rosalie. "How come you want to help?" He jerked his head toward the apartment. "It's gotta be hell in there."

Rosalie wanted to put a hand on his shoulder because he looked like he was about to pass out, but Shiloh had said to not touch him. Relief flooded through her when he confirmed that Singer was inside, and she gave Aaron a smile that faded a little at his next question. "I-" Could he tell if she lied? "Someone did it for me. When I needed it."

He recognized her regret, her hesitation, and her sympathy--and respected it. His expression grew grave, and briefly, ever so briefly, he looked older, serious. Capable. "I get it." He paused, then sighed. "I don't feel any spikes... I mean... nothing real raw and recent. I don't think anything is happening in there right now. But you could stay." He shifted on his feet, clearly uncertain about leaving her in the hallway, which to him was an aggressive, dark place, which pressed down on anyone in it.

Reluctantly, Rosalie turned away from the door. "I'll come up and check on her later," she told him. "I'm walking you back to your apartment." She avoided saying explicitly that Shiloh had told her to, but a little apprehension crept into her tone as she remembered how things had been left.
