Who: Everyone!
What: Transformation Plot Post
Where: All over.
When: Moonrise on the 28th.
Warnings: All kinds, I expect.

The moon slipped up past the horizon full, round, and white. Its effects had been predicted, though perhaps not fully believed by the residents of the building.

Moonlight streamed through the windows of the building, washing the city in pale light. For the tenants of Bellum Letale, where ever they were, scattered in the night, it had a tangible effect.

Change rippled through the building, much as it had over a month before. But this was not simply a twitch in the fabric of things, gone in the blink of an eye. It was a rolling change, gradual as the moonrise, tangible, and, in some cases, likely terrifying in its inexorability. People became what they were, what they ought to have been, and what they weren't.

The moon was up, and trouble was about to run high in Bellum.

[Notes: Remember that the events of last month still apply-I.E, those who became vampires will be vampires when they take on their fable form, the Frog Prince will still be human after being turned back last plot, etc. Whether the fables are aware a month has passed since they were last around is up to the players. This log posted with the anon account so that the mods do not wake up tomorrow with 100 notifications in their gmail. Go forth and plot!]

Ichabod was in the bathroom when Aaron and Watson arrived, wrapping pillowcases around his wounded arms for a lack of anything better to use. He knew Cole had a first aid kit in the kitchen, but he didn't know how to use it, and he certainly was not leaving the safety of his bedroom. The creaking of the door didn't bother him, since it was broken, but he froze when he heard the voice.

Cole? Well, didn't whoever it was know that Cole wasn't here right now? He unlocked the bedroom door and peered out suspiciously. He didn't recognize the man with the cane, and when his gaze fell on the boy beside him, Ichabod's eyes widened. Good God - what was it? Once it had been a boy, yes; but not anymore. Now it was a corpse, but somehow it was standing there like the living dead. Like the Horseman, but much more grotesque.

If he'd had his way, he would have just ignored them until they left; but Cole recognized both the man with the cane and the corpse boy, and seeing the latter was particularly distressing to the man. He opened the bedroom door wider, reluctantly stepping out into the apartment. "Hello. My name is Ichabod - the man you are looking for, Cole, is not quite here right now; however, I still may be able to help you." He couldn't forget his manners, even if one of them was dead, and he did his best not to stare or flinch or anything of the sort.

Aaron recognized Cole from over Watson's shoulder. The corpse raised one hand, where the flesh was peeling away from the bone at the fingertips, and gave a little half-hearted wave. "Hey, teach." He slouched a little farther into the room, bringing with him a thoroughly unpleasant aroma of raw hamburger left out too long. He gave Ichabod a long look through the milky eyes, and then he gave a wet scrape of a sigh. Cole wasn't even here. "Shoulda known," he said to Watson, bitterly.

He motioned to a couch in the living room, and he gave him a reassuring look. "Sit a moment, Aaron. Ichabod may not be your friend, but that does not meant your friend is not within him," he said, as kindly as he could.

He looked at the other man a moment, trying to convey the dire situation in one loaded glance. "Aaron finds himself in a bit of a predicament, you see, and I thought it best to bring him to someone familiar; together, perhaps we can come up with a course of action."

Ichabod may not have known this Aaron, but Cole did - and he wasn't letting him forget that. The fact that he was dead and was now some sort of living corpse was likely the reason why the boy's presence upset the man, since he imagined that it would be disturbing to see someone you know after their death.

"Oh-- yes, Aaron. Have a seat." He was uncomfortable with the situation, but did his best to hide it. "I do apologize that... well, it is me here instead of Cole." He looked thoughtful for a moment, actually making an effort to recall what had happened during the time that he'd been gone. "I will do everything that I can to help. What is... well. It seems the problem would be that he is dead, but clearly somehow alive at the moment, yes?"

Aaron was friggin' uncomfortable with the situation too. He did as he was told (sulkily, it may be added) and let himself collapse onto the couch. Cole was definitely going to need a new one, and it seemed extremely unlikely that Aaron was going to be able to get up again. The corpse practically fell in on itself into the folds of the couch, bending at the spine, which showed through the back of the neck. "Like Frankenstein," he said, gloomily.

Watson thought that the comment to the boy about being dead was slightly uncaring, though true. He'd grown fond of the boy during their walk, however, and he wanted to make him feel better (if such a thing was possible), not worse. But he also knew, somehow, that the boy was dead (truly dead) when it was not the full moon. Not like Frankenstein at all.

"I cannot recall any tales where someone leaves the grave," he told Ichabod, and he leaned heavily against the arm of the couch with a pained sound as he did so. "Shelley's creation did not return as you have, Aaron," he said truthfully, in the kindest way possible.

He finally voiced the crux of the matter. "We must find a way to preserve him."

Ichabod tried not to wince at the way the dead boy sat on the couch, but the longer he thought about it, the more he couldn't help but feel sympathetic towards him. Some of it was his own, and some of it was Cole's seeping through, and it was the latter that was the stronger of the two - but nonetheless, he himself was not a cruel man. It was discomfiting to be so close to the living dead, but Aaron was harmless. "Frankenstein..." Why did that seem so familiar? Ah, well. "Nor can I." He felt slightly sheepish for his crude way of wording the boy's situation, and very much wanted to make amends for it.

"There are many tales, however; but I cannot recall Cole ever discovering which tale Aaron was from." He slowly began to remember what had transpired during the month that he was gone, and he knew that poor Cole had been the one to unearth his pupil. "Preserve him? Yes... yes, of course." He nodded earnestly, rubbing at his sheet-wrapped arms. The slashes still hurt, but he was fairly certain the blood flow had been stemmed. "Micah, the man who usually resides in your body - I believe he would know the proper way better than any of us." He and Cole were both schoolteachers, and preserving the dead was not something they'd been required to learn.

"I don't wanna be preserved," Aaron said, abruptly. "This sucks. I'm not going to be able to go anywhere or do anything, as a stupid zombie anyway. I mean." The corpse made a shuddering gesture that was probably what went for a shrug. "Not like I want to die, or anything. I mean... permanently. But it really sucks to, you know, be dead." The skull rotated slowly from Cole so that the milky eyes squinted at Watson. "How'd I die, anyway?"

"He does not know," Watson replied, referring to Micah. "They do not know who did it or why. Do you have anything you recall?" he asked, because perhaps this was all about avenging this boy's death; Watson found that to be an honorable undertaking. He hoped the man he inhabited would ensure whoever harmed the boy was brought to justice, especially if it meant the boy would find rest. He looked at Ichabod. "Do you have any theories?" he asked, setting aside the topic of preservation. That could be worried about after this ordeal. "Also, do you have ink and parchment? I would like to pen a note to myself."

Ichabod hadn't the fainted idea what it was like to be dead, but he imagined that it would be... well, less than desirable. "I know, Aaron. Well not literally, but-- we will find some way to fix this." Perhaps, he thought, it was a good thing that Cole wasn't the one in control of this body at the moment. He doubted the man would deal with this very well.

"I cannot think of any tale I have ever heard or read involving something like this. However..." He glanced around the apartment, quite sure that there were a stack of fairy tales somewhere. "Ah!" There it was, on top of the bookshelf - a thick volume of Grimm's fairy tales. Aaron might have been from literature, but it was a place to start. He picked up the book and took a seat on the couch next to the one Aaron currently occupied, deciding to check the pages Cole had bookmarked first. "Let me see if there is anything here which fits this description. As for ink and parchment, I believe there is some in that drawer just there." He began to flip through the book, frowning thoughtfully.

Aaron was looking at his arm. The bones showed through as he rotated his wrist around, tendons stretching and peeling. "That is so gross." He sounded fascinated.

He seemed to recall himself to the conversation. "Uhm... no. I just remember I had a nightmare about... about Shiloh, and then I got mad about something, and then I left. But I can't remember where I went or how come." He looked at Ichabod. "Did you take care of Balto? Because I don't think Vaughn would do a real good job, she doesn't like playing fetch and stuff with him."

He walked to the drawer, and he pulled out the writing instruments. They were not the vellum parchment and inkpot/quill that he so enjoyed, archaic though they were, but they would suffice. He began writing a note to Micah, in case the other man did not realize that the boy needed to be adequately preserved immediately.

Unfortunately the book was thick, and there were countless fairy tales within it, but Ichabod refused to give up so quickly. If there was an answer to be found within these pages, then he would find it.

"Balto?" He glanced up, momentarily confused. Oh - it did strike a chord of recognition on Cole's part. "Ah. He is being taken care of, I am fairly certain." The name Vaughn sounded familiar, although he didn't know her personally. "Vaughn - who is she?"

"I dunno. Vaughn." Like everybody should know Vaughn. "My Chem tutor. People give her a really bad rap here but she was super nice to me. She helped me with the bills and stuff after Shiloh left. She'd feed him and stuff but like I said, he likes to play and run and... and things." Aaron lapsed into silence, probably brooding on how he wouldn't be able to do any of that stuff either.

Watson, having finished penning his note, taped it to Cole's desk (which he assumed would remain once he had gone). The boy, amazingly, looked worse than he had just a moment ago, and so Watson made the only promises he could. "We shall find out who did this to you, and we shall ensure you are taken care of." He didn't want to lie, and it was the only thing he could guarantee. "I will set Holmes on the case," he said, certain that his friend could get to the bottom of anything. "Unlike his counterpart here, he is not afraid of investigating true crime."

"Oh." Aaron's description meant nothing to Ichabod, but he thought that it might mean something to Cole. He was fairly certain that the man would remember all of this, but just in case, perhaps leaving a note wasn't such a bad idea. He left the book open as he rose from the couch, frowning at the writing utensils before scribbling a quick note. He mentioned the Horseman, Aaron returning from the dead, and mention of someone named Vaughn and the boy's concern that she wouldn't take care of the dog.

Once he was finished, he left the note next to Watson's and returned to the fairy tale book. "Your death will not go unpunished," he added, certain that Cole would do whatever he could to see to that. Ichabod was silent for a few moments before letting out a cry of excitement, raising his head. "I believe I may have found something. It may be a stretch, but--" He turned the book around, having been flipping pages at random by this point. The story on the open page was titled 'The Willful Child', and although it was short, it was the only tale he'd skimmed that seemed relevant.

Aaron didn't seem all too concerned about being avenged. Mostly he was just ticked he was falling apart. That whole dying a virgin thing totally sucked, too. Not like he was going to say that, though. He had to ask one of them to read the story aloud to him since he didn't want to try to get himself off the couch, but once they did he sat there in a thoughtful silence for a minute before saying, "Dude. That sucks. My story is: 'I'm dead'?"

"Well, it also speaks of a rather unimpressive mother. Did you have one of those?" he asked, though he agreed with the boy that the story was macabre (at best). Watson was, admittedly, glad he was who he was, and the fact that he had not seen his Mary in months seemed a paltry thing in comparison. "If this is your tale, it would explain things. The boy refused to die."

Ichabod dutifully read the story aloud, his excitement ebbing away when he realized that it really wasn't the best of stories, but then again not all fairy tales were full of princes and princesses and happy endings. "Unfortunate as it is, the tale does seem to make sense." He paused, a thought entering his mind that made his eyes widen slightly. "If this is true, does it mean that when this happens again - when we fables inhabit their bodies - Aaron will rise from the dead once more?"

"Shiloh was pretty messed up," Aaron said, reluctant to speak for the first time. Maybe Shiloh had abandoned him, yeah, but he wasn't going to rag on the guy about it. "So... probably."

"When you say 'rise from the dead' it sounds so much cooler," Aaron told Ichabod.

"It is why I made the comment about preservation," Watson said grimly, because there was no point in skirting the topic, not when they'd plunged right into the middle of it. "If this is his tale," he said, motioning to the book, "it stands to reason that he will rise each time this happens. We must keep him nearby and cared for. We must ensure our counterparts are aware of this. Imagine the alternative, if you would."

Ichabod raised his eyebrows, unsure as to what was 'cool' about the situation, but he didn't comment on it. He did feel bad for the boy, knowing that he would die and then rise again over and over, until... well, he really wasn't sure how this entire thing was going to end.

"Cole will ensure that he is taken care of," he said confidently. Unlike some of the other fables, he rather liked his counterpart. "I know this is not easy for you, Aaron, but we will do the best we can."

"What happens to me in between the rising?" Aaron said, sounding abruptly unimpressed with the situation, despite what he said a moment ago. "You mean I go back to being dead?!" There was evidence that he was trying to struggle upward in protest, and while the bones were compliant, the flesh was not.

"We will see if anything can be done," Watson assured, though he made no promises. "I am not certain, Aaron. It is possible you will remain here in a non-corporeal fashion," he suggested, unsure if that was going to help things or make it better.

Ichabod wasn't sure what to say, and even though Cole would have liked to assure him with promises that everything would be okay, that man was very far away and his voice was faint. "Neither of us can be certain of what will occur," he piped up somewhat awkwardly. "But we will do whatever can be done, rest assured." There really wasn't much else to say, but letting Aaron wander the halls looking like this was probably not the best idea.
