Who: Everyone!
What: Transformation Plot Post
Where: All over.
When: Moonrise on the 28th.
Warnings: All kinds, I expect.

The moon slipped up past the horizon full, round, and white. Its effects had been predicted, though perhaps not fully believed by the residents of the building.

Moonlight streamed through the windows of the building, washing the city in pale light. For the tenants of Bellum Letale, where ever they were, scattered in the night, it had a tangible effect.

Change rippled through the building, much as it had over a month before. But this was not simply a twitch in the fabric of things, gone in the blink of an eye. It was a rolling change, gradual as the moonrise, tangible, and, in some cases, likely terrifying in its inexorability. People became what they were, what they ought to have been, and what they weren't.

The moon was up, and trouble was about to run high in Bellum.

[Notes: Remember that the events of last month still apply-I.E, those who became vampires will be vampires when they take on their fable form, the Frog Prince will still be human after being turned back last plot, etc. Whether the fables are aware a month has passed since they were last around is up to the players. This log posted with the anon account so that the mods do not wake up tomorrow with 100 notifications in their gmail. Go forth and plot!]

Ichabod hadn't the fainted idea what it was like to be dead, but he imagined that it would be... well, less than desirable. "I know, Aaron. Well not literally, but-- we will find some way to fix this." Perhaps, he thought, it was a good thing that Cole wasn't the one in control of this body at the moment. He doubted the man would deal with this very well.

"I cannot think of any tale I have ever heard or read involving something like this. However..." He glanced around the apartment, quite sure that there were a stack of fairy tales somewhere. "Ah!" There it was, on top of the bookshelf - a thick volume of Grimm's fairy tales. Aaron might have been from literature, but it was a place to start. He picked up the book and took a seat on the couch next to the one Aaron currently occupied, deciding to check the pages Cole had bookmarked first. "Let me see if there is anything here which fits this description. As for ink and parchment, I believe there is some in that drawer just there." He began to flip through the book, frowning thoughtfully.

Aaron was looking at his arm. The bones showed through as he rotated his wrist around, tendons stretching and peeling. "That is so gross." He sounded fascinated.

He seemed to recall himself to the conversation. "Uhm... no. I just remember I had a nightmare about... about Shiloh, and then I got mad about something, and then I left. But I can't remember where I went or how come." He looked at Ichabod. "Did you take care of Balto? Because I don't think Vaughn would do a real good job, she doesn't like playing fetch and stuff with him."

He walked to the drawer, and he pulled out the writing instruments. They were not the vellum parchment and inkpot/quill that he so enjoyed, archaic though they were, but they would suffice. He began writing a note to Micah, in case the other man did not realize that the boy needed to be adequately preserved immediately.

Unfortunately the book was thick, and there were countless fairy tales within it, but Ichabod refused to give up so quickly. If there was an answer to be found within these pages, then he would find it.

"Balto?" He glanced up, momentarily confused. Oh - it did strike a chord of recognition on Cole's part. "Ah. He is being taken care of, I am fairly certain." The name Vaughn sounded familiar, although he didn't know her personally. "Vaughn - who is she?"

"I dunno. Vaughn." Like everybody should know Vaughn. "My Chem tutor. People give her a really bad rap here but she was super nice to me. She helped me with the bills and stuff after Shiloh left. She'd feed him and stuff but like I said, he likes to play and run and... and things." Aaron lapsed into silence, probably brooding on how he wouldn't be able to do any of that stuff either.

Watson, having finished penning his note, taped it to Cole's desk (which he assumed would remain once he had gone). The boy, amazingly, looked worse than he had just a moment ago, and so Watson made the only promises he could. "We shall find out who did this to you, and we shall ensure you are taken care of." He didn't want to lie, and it was the only thing he could guarantee. "I will set Holmes on the case," he said, certain that his friend could get to the bottom of anything. "Unlike his counterpart here, he is not afraid of investigating true crime."

"Oh." Aaron's description meant nothing to Ichabod, but he thought that it might mean something to Cole. He was fairly certain that the man would remember all of this, but just in case, perhaps leaving a note wasn't such a bad idea. He left the book open as he rose from the couch, frowning at the writing utensils before scribbling a quick note. He mentioned the Horseman, Aaron returning from the dead, and mention of someone named Vaughn and the boy's concern that she wouldn't take care of the dog.

Once he was finished, he left the note next to Watson's and returned to the fairy tale book. "Your death will not go unpunished," he added, certain that Cole would do whatever he could to see to that. Ichabod was silent for a few moments before letting out a cry of excitement, raising his head. "I believe I may have found something. It may be a stretch, but--" He turned the book around, having been flipping pages at random by this point. The story on the open page was titled 'The Willful Child', and although it was short, it was the only tale he'd skimmed that seemed relevant.

Aaron didn't seem all too concerned about being avenged. Mostly he was just ticked he was falling apart. That whole dying a virgin thing totally sucked, too. Not like he was going to say that, though. He had to ask one of them to read the story aloud to him since he didn't want to try to get himself off the couch, but once they did he sat there in a thoughtful silence for a minute before saying, "Dude. That sucks. My story is: 'I'm dead'?"

"Well, it also speaks of a rather unimpressive mother. Did you have one of those?" he asked, though he agreed with the boy that the story was macabre (at best). Watson was, admittedly, glad he was who he was, and the fact that he had not seen his Mary in months seemed a paltry thing in comparison. "If this is your tale, it would explain things. The boy refused to die."

Ichabod dutifully read the story aloud, his excitement ebbing away when he realized that it really wasn't the best of stories, but then again not all fairy tales were full of princes and princesses and happy endings. "Unfortunate as it is, the tale does seem to make sense." He paused, a thought entering his mind that made his eyes widen slightly. "If this is true, does it mean that when this happens again - when we fables inhabit their bodies - Aaron will rise from the dead once more?"

"Shiloh was pretty messed up," Aaron said, reluctant to speak for the first time. Maybe Shiloh had abandoned him, yeah, but he wasn't going to rag on the guy about it. "So... probably."

"When you say 'rise from the dead' it sounds so much cooler," Aaron told Ichabod.

"It is why I made the comment about preservation," Watson said grimly, because there was no point in skirting the topic, not when they'd plunged right into the middle of it. "If this is his tale," he said, motioning to the book, "it stands to reason that he will rise each time this happens. We must keep him nearby and cared for. We must ensure our counterparts are aware of this. Imagine the alternative, if you would."

Ichabod raised his eyebrows, unsure as to what was 'cool' about the situation, but he didn't comment on it. He did feel bad for the boy, knowing that he would die and then rise again over and over, until... well, he really wasn't sure how this entire thing was going to end.

"Cole will ensure that he is taken care of," he said confidently. Unlike some of the other fables, he rather liked his counterpart. "I know this is not easy for you, Aaron, but we will do the best we can."

"What happens to me in between the rising?" Aaron said, sounding abruptly unimpressed with the situation, despite what he said a moment ago. "You mean I go back to being dead?!" There was evidence that he was trying to struggle upward in protest, and while the bones were compliant, the flesh was not.

"We will see if anything can be done," Watson assured, though he made no promises. "I am not certain, Aaron. It is possible you will remain here in a non-corporeal fashion," he suggested, unsure if that was going to help things or make it better.

Ichabod wasn't sure what to say, and even though Cole would have liked to assure him with promises that everything would be okay, that man was very far away and his voice was faint. "Neither of us can be certain of what will occur," he piped up somewhat awkwardly. "But we will do whatever can be done, rest assured." There really wasn't much else to say, but letting Aaron wander the halls looking like this was probably not the best idea.

Aaron collapsed back in a heap on the couch. He said no more. There was nothing else to say. He wasn't planning on going anywhere, or doing anything.

Watson stood, his bones aching, and he rubbed at this leg as he moved. "You will watch him?" he asked the other man in the room. He motioned to the letter they had written for their counterparts. "Ensure those get to the right place when the time comes? I must find Holmes. If anyone can help us get to the bottom of this, it will be him." He hesitated a moment, then reached forward and touched a hand to Aaron's shoulder. He didn't offer any comforting words, because he didn't have any that would not sound hollow. He was accustomed to death. He was even accustomed to people who knew they were dying. There were no words of comfort for such an occasion.

He nodded respectfully to both of them, and he left to find Holmes. There was a murder to avenge, and he needed to tell Holmes while he was still the detective he so respected.

Ichabod nodded, since he had no intentions of leaving his apartment - there was the fear that the Horseman would return, but even so he couldn't just leave Aaron here to face such a thing on his own. "I will. Good luck with your search, sir."

Once the man had left, he rose from the couch to shut the door, but after a few failed attempts he finally had to push a small cabinet in front of it to keep it in place. He unwrapped the makeshift bandages he'd made out of pillowcases and was pleased to see that the bleeding had indeed stopped, and the cuts didn't look as bad as he'd previously thought.

He didn't know what to do, but there was nothing he could offer Aaron, and he wasn't sure what to say. Instead he found himself a book and sat across from the boy once again, regarding him silently for a moment. "I am sorry that Cole is not here. He would have liked to have been." It didn't change anything, but it was true; and with that said, Ichabod settled back against the couch and began to read, glancing up every so often to make sure the boy was... well, not completely dead.
