Holmes, old chap, if you're about, we've a dangerous fellow shooting at everything that speaks or moves. Perhaps you could have a word with him? You seem to have a flair for these things, if memory serves.

[With a chuckle] There is much to be said for a warm fire and a soft woman to bring one's drink and listen to one complain about how infuriating one's companion is. Do not underestimate the strength of a woman's softness, old friend.

The boy has guns and people attempting to kill him, and he insists on attempting to fix everyone within this structure; without your help, it is overwhelming to him. It does not help, friend, that he fancies himself in love with your future spouse.

It's all terribly unfortunate, really. [Sighs] Something must be done.

[A chuckle, not unlike his friend's] I believe it is you who is underestimating Miss Adler. Soft as any woman though she might be, she is not soft. And I am glad of it.

[Contemplative] He shares the need to fix everyone in sight with you. My man is more like me, stubborn and uncaring. But he has a fondness for the boy, and if the boy asked for help, I do not think he would be able to refuse.

Bite your tongue, old chap! There shall be no wedding bells for Sherlock Holmes!

[With a definitive Eureka! tone to his voice] There, you see! You admit you have feelings for the lady. Make her a proper offer, Holmes. You will not regret it. And need I remind you that my Mary braved adventure, and she still brings me my slippers and tea.

I shall see you married yet, and I shall be glad of it.

My boy, however, might punch your man at the end of the altar. I apologize in advance, old friend. No harm intended.

[semi-exasperated, but loving. A tone Holmes could only use with Watson.] I'll admit I am fond of her. But I am fond of you as well. What, shall we go to the altar as well now? Bring Mary and Irene along, turn it into a right occasion?

You should worry less about this old fool. Your boy has a good reason to worry about the other one, I'm afraid. The man is in utter denial.

[With a hearty laugh] We shall most certainly not! You would not bring me my tea, nor would you rub my shoulder, nor would you be soft and warm in my bed. I regret to inform you, dear friend, that I reject your offer of matrimony, as tempting as your vast intellect makes you as a potential life partner.

[Going serious] I have no Mary in this place, so Irene will have to find another woman to stand up with her at the joyous occasion, I fear.

You have yet to tell me how we work our way out of this problem, Holmes. [Teasing] Or have you lost your touch?

[The voice is hurt, but tinged with amusement] You break my heart, Watson.

[A soft laugh] Buck up, old chap. She might turn up yet.

My touch has nothing to do with it. [Dismissive] I am an expert in the field of analytic reasoning and deduction. This man's problems are emotional, and you have always been more adept in that.

[With a bit more seriousness] I mean the problem of this state we find ourselves in. You can hardly find it acceptable?

[Distractedly] Oh, right. I'm not as inclined as my counterpart to give up on resolving this... issue. I've set up a few experiments here [in an undertone] since I'm quarantined here for the time being [switching back to normal volume] and am waiting on the results.
