Farm; Wednesday; Sadie and Gabe Part 2
((Continued from here.))
Meaning really early in the summertime. That was lousy. "I can spend the night here sometimes." But not very often. Such was the price of living where you work if where you worked was a bar. Sadie traced the outside of his ear with her finger and gave him an optimistic little smile.
Gabe nodded. "This isn't going to be easy," probably easier for him rather than her. He didn't mind losing sleep to be with her, especially since he'd probably wind up more energized overall with something to look forward to now.
"Probably not," Sadie agreed with a small sigh. "But it's better than the alternative. And maybe one day we won't have to bother with the hiding." That day had better come.
Wouldn't that be nice? Gabe hoped one day that could happen. He smiled a little, because she was here and she loved him and he wanted her to smile too. He lifted his hand to place it against he side of her face, moving his thumb along her cheek and keeping quiet except for another 143.
Sadie returned the 143, as well as the smile. Being happier now should be allowed. They were together. Well, mostly. Sadie reached down for his hand and after she took it, moved to lie down. She pulled him with her. They could just do this for a while before she had to leave.
Gabe was definitely okay with just laying there. He shifted his weight as he turned on his side. He brought her hand up first to kiss he back of it and then put his arm around her.
Sadie smiled a little more and snuggled in close, despite the his bruises and dirtiness. She hadn't felt as good as she did right then in months. It was awesome to have that back.
It was definitely a comfort to have her close. He wasn't even able to think of the injuries as anymore than a dull ache at the moment. He was more than relieved and even relaxed than he'd been in he didn't know how long at this point. After feeling completely alone and constantly wondering when he woke up if today was going to be the day someone finally killed him that laying there all curled up next to her just left him content, and exhausted. Which is exactly why he wound up accidentally starting to doze off.
Sadie was comfortable, but she remained awake, thinking. As well as periodically checking her watch. The minutes seemed to be ticking by faster then usual, and it wasn't long until she saw that she needed to be on her way to open the bar. She delayed their time together as long as she could, by adding a few more minutes or so, but eventually she couldn't put it off any longer. She moved her hand, which she had been twirling in his hair, down to his back to give him a gentle shake.
"Hey," she said, both quiet and sad, "I have to go."
"Hmmm?" Gabe asked in a groggy tone as he started waking up. He frowned at her next comment though he tried not to. "Okay," he agreed a little sadly as he started to move so she could get up but not without giving her a kiss or two first.
Just two? Ha, Sadie planned to give him a whole bunch more. Once they were both up in sitting position, she moved her arms around him and gave kissed him quite a few times, with some babbles of about love and being back tomorrow in between.
Well he didn't wanna go pushing his luck. He did however return those kisses. He moved his arms around her and let his hands slide down her back to meet in the middle of the small of her back. He grinned as much as possible between kisses and declarations and got in a few of his own as well.
This reminded Sadie of something, and after a minute, she pulled back to look up at him. "That time," she said, moving her hands down his arms so she could hold on to his, "that time last summer when you were busy for a few weeks. That wasn't just because of work, was it?"
Gabe blinked at her, still a little hazy brained from all the kissing and such. It took him a moment to assemble his thoughts and then he looked down between them, guiltily. "No, not entirely," he answered. He'd had a busy few work weeks, but he had been avoiding her. "I was trying to avoid you...before I got in too deep." he paused a moment or two before he lifted his eyes up again to hers. "I was a little too stupid at the time realize it was already too late." he turned his eyes down again and wondered if she was aware that he really did know how horrible of a person he was in all of this.
Sadie didn't know what to say to that, so she just squeezed Gabe's hands as she looked up at him. It definitely put the night they got back together in a different light, even though just about everything was like that now. It was really unfair that they couldn't be just a normal couple, like she thought they were back then.
"I love you," she reminded him (and maybe herself a little, too), ducking her head a little to catch his eyes. She let go of his right hand and reached up to push his hair behind his ear again.
Gabe wanted to tell her that she shouldn't, but he was pretty sure she knew that. In any case the words left him when she brushed his hair back and touched his face. He nodded and turned his head to kiss the hand she'd reached up before leaning his face against it for a moment as he returned the 143. He turned his eyes back to hers, "I was trying to stop from hurting you the way I wound up hurting you before it started, but my willpower seems to falter when it comes to you..." Immensely.
She knew she probably shouldn't love him, but that didn't stop her from feeling that way anyway. She wrinkled her brow a little and moved her thumb across his cheek. "I think it's pretty obvious that mine does too," she said in response. "So we've got that in common." They were both pretty much powerless against each other, that was for sure.
Gabe nodded a little. Eventually he looked up at her again. "I'm glad it was too late," Y'know to distance himself and not fall for her. Because if that had happened, he would've gone through with horrible things. And not only that, but he wouldn't have gotten to properly fall for her.
Sadie didn't say anything at first; she just looked at him. After a few slow breaths, she nodded. "Yeah." She brushed her fingers back through his hair. "I know just how you feel."
He nodded, frowning at little at her reaction. He didn't want to sit around wondering what he should say to her or keep from her. He should probably prepare himself for more reactions like this when he said the wrong thing. "Sorry," He apologized quietly again.
Sadie didn't want him to keep anything from her. That was how they got to this point in the first place. "Don't say that," she shook her head. "I want to know what you're thinking, no matter what it is, okay? And I get what you're saying."
Gabe nodded. "Good." He leaned forward to kiss her forehead. "You have to go," He reminded her, not because he wanted her to, but because he knew she had to. He tried not to frown about it but he was only human so he forced his mouth into a little line to keep from actually frowning.
Sadie nodded, but didn't move. After some long moments, she reminded herself (and him), "I'll be back tomorrow. I don't have to work, so I can stay as long as I want." She smiled a little bit and pulled her hand back from him so she could stand up.
"Okay," Gabe agreed as he moved to pull himself up to his feet. "I'll be here." As always. But at least he could look forward to her returning.
"Good," Sadie said, her smile widening some. She took his hands and pulled him along with her as she went to his door.
Once they reached the door, Gabe let go of one of her hands so he could open the door. He looked at her for a moment before he leaned over and kissed her.
Sadie moved her arms around his neck to pull him down a little farther as she kissed him back. And she kissed him another time, too. And another. And a few more than that.
Gabe didn't move his arms around her waist until she'd moved hers around his neck to pull him closer. He returned all of her kisses and then added a few more in. He wanted to ask her to stay, but she had to go to work. Too bad he didn't think he'd be able to convince her like he had so long ago when they'd 'gotten back together' after that few week drought.
Eventually, Sadie had to pull back for some air. She left her forehead leaning against Gabe's and moved her fingers around in the hair at the back of his head. "You need to tell me to go or else I'm not going to be able to do it," she said, a little breathless.
Gabe was a breathless as well, but he kept his forehead against hers even with the height difference. The corners of his lips turned up just a tiny bit. He let his eyes roam over her face a little while before he replied. "We might have a problem then..." Since he didn't want to tell her to go. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly. Then he kissed first her forehead, then the tip of her nose and then he kissed her properly. "You should go," He told her reluctantly. "You have to go to work."
Sadie let out a sigh. She was feeling even less impatient than usual. She loosened her arms around him and took his hands again instead. "This is gonna be a long night," she said with a tiny smile.
Gabe smiled a little bit as he squeezed her hands and then lifted them to give each a couple of kisses. Then he got incredibly corner and didn't let them rest down between them, instead let them fall against his chest and held them there so he could lean over and kiss her forehead. "It'll be over before you know it," He assured. His night might be faster since it was going to consist of showering and trying to sleep. The sleep would probably come much easier than normal for him tonight after her visit, too.
"Somehow I doubt that," Sadie smiled after watching him kiss her hands. She kept them against his chest as she took a reluctant step back toward the door. "I love you," she reminded him, leaning forward since she was now at a slight angle.
Gabe smiled a little at her. He leaned over and stepped closer to kiss her a few more times. He kissed the backs of her hands again and then gave them a squeeze before he reluctantly let them go. He told her that he loved her and then nodded to the door. "You have to go," He reminded, albeit a little sadly since he wanted to beg her to stay.
"Okay," Sadie acquiesced with a sigh as she straightened up. "You better get a lot of sleep tonight 'cause you're not getting much tomorrow," she warned him with a point and a smile. She walked over the threshold and stopped there with another sigh, prolonging the moment.
Gabe smiled a little more. "Yes Ma'am," He assured. He stayed on the other side of the doorway and leaned over to kiss the side of her head. "Be careful heading back," He told her. "I love you." He repeated as he leaned against the door frame to keep from dragging her back inside.
"I will," she promised, smiling after the kiss. "Try to go easy on those bruises." Her smile faded a little as she looked at the mark on his face, but she didn't linger on it too long. Instead she told him she loved him as well, and then started for the steps. With a lot of glances back.
Gabe nodded. "I'm fine, really," He assured when he saw the way her smile fell away. He smiled again at her declaration and waved at a couple of those glances, waiting until she was halfway down the stairs to repeat a 143.
He was still wincing, so he wasn't as good as he could be. Nevertheless, Sadie nodded on her way down. When she reached the bottom, she looked back up again with a smile. She 143ed Gabe back and after looking at him for a few moments, turned to head back home. She was pretty late at this point, but she didn't care so much.
Yeah well, he was better than he could be. She loved him and she came across the entire town just to inform him of this even against his protests for her sake. Did she really think he was aware of anything but her presence? When she disappeared, he headed for one of the few shabby windows to watch her go. Afterward he let out a sigh and went to get a shower. He was intent on going to sleep afterward to actually get some rest for once.
