I have taken it upon myself to seek initiation to the sorcery that is Swayze. Peter Quill, this is something you were not wrong about.

I may need to go stab something very soon though, before I turn into a vapid TV kardashian girl.

I think we may need team dance lessons.

We’re going to need to call them close quarters combat drills as part of team building. I saw it on a Ted Talk. You have to do shit with people so they work better together.

Yondu never had to worry about the crew’s commitment to their core values and mission statement. But maybe if he had Taserface wouldn’t have gone mutineer on him.

That is smart. I can see combat applications for many of the skills we might use.

I don’t imagine that is your interest in dancing though.

Dancing isn’t an interest. It’s just what we do.

I think we need to stop holding our breaths and waiting for things to go to shit again. If I have to live in constant fear that I lose everything again, I at least want to get to experience the everything I'm losing, instead of knowing it was amazing, but never getting to feel it myself.

I would like to know the Peter Quill who dances.

Self-education on the culture of this place through Amazon Prime. I have been told that Patrick Swayze is an icon.

Just the one with the dancing. It was highly educational.

I think I may watch the one with the ghosts next.

That would be 'Ghost'. Very good film, if very sad.

There are so many movies to choose from. Some are historical, which might be interesting for you. Or as close to history as Hollywood allows.

I watched a movie? Alone. Although Swayze appears designed for The Netflix & Chill

As I understand the practice, the objective is to be the one to succeed in distracting your partner from the movie through use of... um... physical pleasure? I think that it is generally considered a good thing when that process takes a significant amount of time.

Not having had an opportunity to engage in this cultural phenomenon as yet, I think we should ask someone who knows. Darcy possibly?

We could ask Darcy, yes.

So the idea is to watch a movie without actually watching the movie?

Anyway, I am happy to answer any and all questions you ladies have.

Okay, as I understand the Netflix & Chill: you start the movie, but only as an excuse to engage in sexual activities? I’m not sure the point of the excuses, but you Terrans seem to require them.

In the movie Swayze used dancing instead of Netflix. It seems like a far more direct progression to be honest. With the hips and touching each other, and standing up to evil fathers.

Obviously I should have known, taking a movie recommendation from Peter that it would include pelvic sorcery, but it was... Is this a normal way that Terran's dance with one another or specifically a Star Lord training video?

Yes, you understand Netflix & Chill correctly. The Netflix part is just a pretense. Because most Terrans are super uptight about sex so they can't just be like "hey, wanna hang out and bang?". It's far more respectable to say "hey, come over and we'll watch a movie".

Also, that movie, while an absolute classic that oozes sex appeal, is almost forty years old. It's not a great representation of life here on Earth in 2024.

If you're looking to learn about what life is like here, you really need to watch reality TV. But if you're just looking for cultural touchpoints, I can recommend a ton of great movies and TV shows.

Oh, reality TV is the girls with massive chests? I watched that but it felt like my brain was slowly dying. I had to go punch the bag in the gym to try to feel like myself.

My goal wasn't to understand Terra. I was compared unfavorably to Baby, and was trying to understand the reference. After watching the movie, it's clear that I am the one who is in the right. Which likely means it was a pretense to get me to watch it in the first place.

Some of it is, yeah. Depends on what you watch. I like the dating reality shows that are competitions and everyone is super fake nice to their faces and then total bitches behind their backs.

Yeah, so, Peter's a great guy and all, but he's kind of stuck in the past. Don't get me wrong, the 80s and 90s had some amazing movies, but there are some more timely options.

The women compete over a man? In what sorts of challenges?

Peter is.. an intense experience.

Sometimes it's men competing for women.

Not usually challenges, but they go on dates and stuff. There was a fun one a while back called "Love is Blind" where the couples 'dated' without seeing each other until they got engaged.

I can see feeling really competitive and jealous if I and another person both thought we had a connection with someone.

It is lucky that I do not need a show like this, I doubt they would allow threatening your opponents with swords

I have tried watching reality programs, but so many of the people seem to spend their time in selfish pursuits with no goals beyond sleeping with someone else's partner or wearing an outfit that 'malfunctions'.

We should probably just stick to punching things instead.
