Who: Ned and OPEN
What: "Studying"
When: 4pm Wednesday
Where: Lobby of Stark Towers
Rating: Low

Ned had homework, but he was kind of over school. Senioritis was growing strong in Ned and he was trying to care... but not really. He didn't have an apartment here because he still lived at home, but Ned still wanted to feel like he was part of everyone else so he came every day to study. Today the studying consisted of writing a new hacking program instead. That was still valuable learning, right? This particular program was meant to access any new car that had more computer in it than maybe it should. He was reminded of when Peter borrow Flash's car. With this new program, Peter could 'borrow' any car he needed if it came to it. Of course Ned knew that if bad guys ended up getting ahold of the program, it would suck, but he was confident in his encryption protocols.

Tony held his coffee in one hand, and held the other out as though waiting for something to be put in it. Sure, he didn't like having things handed to him, unless it was from someone he trusted. And since Ned was close to Peter, that was enough of a two degrees of separation ideology for him to be ok with it.

"That's a lot better than awkward thing being awkward," he admitted. "I do that on my lunch breaks. What're you trying to get into?"

Ned looked at Tony longer than maybe someone who knew him better would have looked at him before acting. He blinked and then seemed to realize that Mr. Stark wanted his laptop... probably. He awkwardly-in-a-hurriedly turned his laptop to face Tony and then handed the laptop over to him.

"Uh. Well, I was thinking Peter might need like, some sort of program that could unlock and start cars? Or any vehicle, really. Like, in case he's not all geared up and stuff and he needs to get somewhere fast?"

Now he was worried this was the stupidest idea ever and he just said it to Tony Stark of all people.

Tony looked at it as he listened to what Ned had in mind, his eyes skimming over the programming in progress. Ned had talent, that was for sure, and looked through for any flubs. There weren't any.

"This is solid work. Except for one thing. That whole auto theft thing. If you add in a wifi script to link in knock out every nearby security or traffic cam, I think it's doable." Tony paused and looked at Ned as he passed the laptop back over, impressed with what he had seen. "Don't tell anyone that I told you that. How long did this take you?"

Ned's eyes lit up because that was a great idea and it made total sense - Peter wouldn't do any good if he was caught stealing a car and charged as a kid on a joy ride or whatever. "Wow, yeah, okay!" He nodded, eagerly filing away the suggestion to work on later. This is why Tony Stark was the best of the best.

"Uh, a couple days? Don't tell my teachers, but sometimes when the stuff they're teaching is boring I pull up stuff like this to work on."

Some might say that he was trying to steer Peter into not doing as he would do, but he also tended to end up in weird situations. Like when he stole a poncho from a wooden Indian. This sort of hack job might come in handy someday.

"Not bad at all. You are going into programming, right? Gotta school picked out yet?" He kept one eye on Ned as he took another long, fortifying drink of coffee.

Tony Stark was intimidating - at least for Ned. It was meeting someone you heard a lot about and knew was really smart and you wanted to impress them, but also not come off as trying to impress them so they wouldn't be annoyed with you.

It was complicated.

"Yeah. I mean, that's the goal? I don't know about schools. I mean, the obvious choice is MIT, but that's far away from here and if Peter plans to stay here, I want to too."

Tony took in that, and then patted a hand on Ned's shoulder a couple of times. If anyone could pull any strings, it was him. While it was a nearly four hour drive if the traffic wasn't bad, he knew faster ways to get there.

"Remote classes are a thing, and there's quinjets or Strange's portals if you two want to take classes during the day. MIT's not that far away." He stood up, clutching the mostly empty coffee in one hand. Time to go get a refill. "We'll work something out, but I'd like to have you intern here. Stark Industries and SHIELD are always hiring programmers. You've got talent. Keep it up."

Tony smirked and nodded, pointing off in one direction, toward the Starbucks in the lobby. "I'm going that way. You want anything?"

He hadn't thought of using the Avenger stuff to get to MIT. He had no idea how it would be to use quinjet or a portal to get to class, but he was sure it would be badass.

"Really!? Interning with Stark Industries would amazing Mr. Stark!" His parents would probably faint from joy, but not before he did. "That would be great. Thank you, Mr. Stark. I won't let you down." Hopefully.

When he gestured to the lobby, he looked and then shook his head, but obviously actually a little touched by the offer, Starbucks or not. "Uh, no. But thank you for that too." He smiled

"Hey, no prob," he said with a smile. "Keep doing what you're doing, and don't worry about a thing. Internship is easily doable, easy to give you two recommendations for college too. Just...don't get caught doing whatever you're doing. That I know nothing about."

It was one of those gray areas he told people to operate in, at least where they could still have some plausible deniability. He liked Peter and Ned, and an internship would open a lot of paths so they could do what they wanted to do in the future.

Tony made a little toasting motion with his cup as he headed off.
