"Hey, man, good to see you," Sam said, clapping his hand on Vision's shoulder in greeting. "I am enjoying the party. How about you?"

He was glad that they'd ended up fighting on the same side after that whole mess with the Accords. It hadn't felt right to be on opposite sides when they joined the team and spent all that time training together.

It was also good to see Vision alive and well, though Sam wasn't going to comment on that.

“I overheard that later the festivities will consist of ‘blowing shit up’,” he replied, in a fair impression of the man he’d passed by. “I hope that just meant fireworks. Honestly I do not see the connection between celebrating independence and lighting things on fire.” It was an odd country, but then most of them were when you weren’t really human. Still, he liked that people seemed to having fun and were overall in good moods. That was always nice to be around.

He smiled at Sam. “How have you been? I had been meaning to stop by, but things have been a little busy lately.” After all the time they’d spent training together, it felt strange to not see him on a regular basis. Sam was always pleasant to be around, and Vision appreciated his insights. Not to mention his patience - when Vision was a bit younger and less familiar with all things human, Sam was always helpful about it. Teasing, sure, but still helpful.

It was on the tip of Sam's tongue to reassure him that of course it just meant fireworks before he remembered that they were dealing with Tony Stark. Hopefully it was just fireworks. "Well, the fireworks are supposed to mimic the sounds of gunfire and canons," he explained.

He supposed it made some kind of sense.

"I'm doing well," Sam said. "Trying to keep busy. You settling in okay?"

“And the drunkenness? What is that supposed to signify?” he asked with a slight grin, as a man stumbled across their path - already having gotten a head start on the festivities, at least those that concerned the consumption of alcohol.

“I am glad to hear you’re doing well,” he responded with a smile. “I’m settled in, yes. Although Wanda and I have had a bit of surprising news recently,” he paused a moment, because really, he wasn’t yet used to it himself. “We’re, ah… expecting a child.”

	Sam blinked. That was... unexpected. "How?" he blurted out, shaking his head. "Sorry. I mean, congratulations. That's great." He still wanted to know how given that Vision was, you know, basically a robot, but he gathered it was welcome news though surprising and he wanted to respond appropriately. He took Sam’s reaction in stride, mainly because he’d asked the same exact question when he first heard the news. “The ‘how’ is a bit complex,” he began.

“Technically, I am incapable of producing offspring.” He figured that was the obvious detail, but reiterated it just in case. “Wanda and I were on a mission for Dr Strange, it involved some cultists who were summoning demonic entities from alternate dimensions. While a portal was open, one of those entities attempted to get through. Wanda was able to send it back where it came, but during the process it…” he attempted to use a hand gesture then to describe it, as he was lacking the proper technical term, “—exploded, infecting Wanda with a strange dark substance that we both knew nothing about.” He took a brief pause, because this was certainly not the standard 4th of July conversation, but when did he ever stick to social norms.

“Some time passed, she became rather ill so we visited Dr. Palmer. Which was where we learned she was pregnant, and also; that the entity was linked with the child. Now we are in the process of attempting to figure out how to extricate the entity without harming Wanda, or our child.” Yeah, it had been a hectic month, needless to say. He was still reeling and more than a little on edge with worry.

"Wow," Sam said again. "That's... a lot to deal with. Anything I can do for you guys?"

He had no idea what he might possibly be able to do since he was not a scientist or a pregnancy expert, but he still figured it was the right thing to do to offer his assistance. Besides, he liked both of them and was glad that they were getting a second chance here. It was much better than when Wanda would sneak off to meet him.
