Who: Christine and Bruce
What: Late night dinner
When: Tonight
Rather: Green?
Appendectomies were such a bore. One of the most common procedures, and generally speaking, one of the easiest. It was simple enough these days, and of course, of course Christine tempted fate by estimating an hour at most.
Three hours later, she was talking to the child's parents about how if they'd waited only a few hours more, he would've died. Of course, she used slightly nicer words than that, but it stayed with her while she scrubbed out and got dressed into a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, her favourite leather jacket completing the outfit. Death was an eventuality, that wasn't what bothered her. It was more the survivors, the look on the parents' face that they had never once thought of their child's mortality.
It also reminded her of the conversation she'd had with Bruce, about how he talked about Thanos, about losing people ... had she lost people? If she'd stayed in that other universe, would she have been dusted too? Or not? It was too complicated to really think about. Good thing she had food to distract her since she was starving.
Knocking on Bruce's apartment door, she stuffed her hands in her pockets and closed her eyes for a moment. It would be nice to be off her feet.
