Mike Corner & Hestia Jones

Thursday, June 14th | Holodecks | PG

Cuties hanging out.

Mike enjoyed Hestia's company so he jumped at the chance to join her at the holodeck complex. He hadn't explored that particular activity yet, but he was more excited about seeing Hestia.

He changed out of his uniform and made sure to use a charm that made him smell good. He also chose his outfit carefully, finally settling on black trousers and a blue polo. He arrived at the holodeck and kept an eye out for Hestia.

Hestia would argue that exploring every nook and cranny of the ship was part of her job as security. Knowing where people might go to hide or generally get away from the hustle and bustle of the ship was important; if anything, she was doing more than her due diligence to try and find clues about the people who might be missing.

Of course, her research came up short and there were no clues to be found, but at least she could take time for herself. That time was just best spent with her friends, or Mike. "He who doesn't fail to make me smile," she quipped, stepping into the holodeck bay. Her eyes adjusted to the darker room before spotting him. She walked over and gave a curtsy, the hem of her dress hovering above her knee.

"I'm glad you look nice, else I might have felt a bit foolish."

	Mike grinned and nodded his head before holding his hand out in a flourish for her. "You look lovely," he told her. "Where shall we go? The world is yours tonight." She worked hard and deserved some levity for the evening as far as Mike was concerned. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Hestia took his hand with aplomb. She thought about resisting but gave a quick kiss to the back of his hand, an airy laugh filling the air. "I'd like to go anywhere. With you." 	Mike hadn't expected her to say that, but he couldn't help grinning. Even if his track record with girls wasn't the greatest, he felt a connection with Hestia and he was glad she liked him. He reached over to brush his fingers against her cheek. "Oh, yeah? I'm a lucky bloke then." He squeezed the hand he was still holding. "And I fancy you too." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"T—that's very good news," she stammered, her cheeks going hot at his touch. "I didn't want to go into this with you thinking it'd just be us as friends. It can be! It's okay if that's what it is, but I also wanted you to know that I've been trying to figure out how I felt about it and that's all. I figured maybe you already knew, because I reckon you've got a bit more experience than me."

"I've had one boyfriend," she told him as she turned her back to him to fiddle with the controls for the holodeck. As she went through the options for settings, Hestia made a few choices before turning back to him, her arm reaching up to wrap around his shoulder. "I wasn't sure if it's too soon. And I'm keen to take our time. After all, we're about to be in Times Square, which is some sort of hub?"

Hestia nosed his jaw as the world swirled into place around them, the sounds of the holodeck thinking turned morphing into car horns and people talking. No one bumped into them, but Hestia pressed herself closer to Mike before daring to look around them. Her eyes grew wide at the sight of the bright billboards and she tilted her head in confusion, her mouth open in a shocked smile. "I set the year to be in the future. I don't think I thought that through!"

	It felt so *real*. Mike looked around, appreciating the sights. London could get hectic, but NYC had a different feeling to it. He kept Hestia close, just in case. "How far into the future? I think this is brilliant!" He gently steered her to the front of a store so they could get their bearings. "We probably look like tourists," Mike commented, amused. "I didn't plan for it," she laughed, giving him a soft nudge as she followed his gaze to the sky. "It seems less crowded than it should be," she mumbled. Hestia wasn't sure how to control the holodeck from here, but she raised her voice enough to speak over the crowd and said, "Holodeck, please make the population accurate to a real celebration." Just like that, they were surrounded by people and one of them shoved hats into Hestia's hand. "One of these is for you," she grinned, positioning it lopsidedly on his head. "For midnight. For that kiss."

Hestia allowed him to lead her, her fingers wrapped around his hand as they moved through the crowd. Hestia smiled at the faces of the people in the simulation and realized that it had to have been some sort of recording. With a mental note to pick something like this when she was alone, Hestia found herself stopped with him and looked up at the ball, the roar of the crowd around them. "It's impossible to believe that people do this every year!"

"They are so happy," she said as she stood gazing around in wonder. "No one cares about a dark wizard, no one cares about war. They're all just happy with life, and maybe a bit drunk." She was grinning at him and just as she went in to kiss his cheek, someone blew a party whistle in her ear, causing her to shriek and jump from surprise. "Oh, oh gosh- I'm sorry!"

"This place is full of 'em," she breathed, her free hand resting on her stomach in an attempt to calm her nerves. The sway of the crowd carried them along as they all stood in place, cheering and chatting on. "It reminds me a bit of Guy Fawkes Night," she realized, her eyes barely registering the images on the billboards. "Though this might be what it's like in London if we went there at this time."

Hestia wrapped her arms around in him in response, her head resting on his shoulder. "I hope you do," she whispered in his ear, her gaze still fixated on the lights. "We might have magic, but the muggles, they just do things differently. That's why I went into-" she paused and shook her head, pressing a kiss against his shirt. "I just hope that you do. Because this is brilliant."
