Gale: Net Post
I've read so many stories of great ships traversing the stars but certainly never predicted that I, myself, would be catapulting through Wildspace aboard one such vessel. Divination always was my weakest school of magic. Hail and well met, I am Gale of Waterdeep; wizard by passsion and profession and, most recently added to my curriculum vitae, quartermaster for magical items that might assist anyone in the field. I have my spellbook with me, thank the Weave, so if you have need of magical artifice I'll see what I can do to assist you.

I suspect I will be spending the next week in the library reading everything I can about...all of this.

I spend a lot of time in the library and library type spaces, if you have any questions, let me know.

Quite a kindness, but I fear you may yet regret such compassion when I reveal just how many questions I have!

I'm not sure I'll be able to answer them all, but I can try.

First among them-- the vessel's name. Poe-sigh-dawn. What is its significance?

I believe it was named after the Admiral back in Atlantis who was in charge of everything during the battle there, but I wasn't there so I don't have all of the details of it.

always good seeing more wizards about. i'm starting to think the only place that considers that an uncouth term is home. i have half a wish i could tell valthek. his expression would be priceless.

regardless, my name is li-ming. my specialty is time and space but i'm having to put that aside for now. you don't do blood magic per chance do you? it would be quite useful.

question though, what is this weave you speak of?

Well, one can simply not account for poor taste, I'm afraid. Wizardry is a most genteel profession. How noble an art is the language of creation? Now, warlockry-- there is an example of magic that could use more sophistication.

genteel? i'm sorry i don't think i can hear you over the demons trying to claw my face off back home. it can be as noble as it likes, but all that power is better used for something worthwhile. sitting in a sanctum or being a prize for one of the mage clans is not my idea of 'noble'.

i don't know what warlockry is. i also note you did not answer my questions.

Right. There seems to be some misunderstanding-- genteel as in respectable and refined, an antonym of uncouth. My point was that wizardry is not, in fact, uncouth, but perhaps I'll defer to the subjectivity of opinion! I'm afraid I answer questions one at a time. It's a terribly genteel habit I've picked up. Hazard of my uncouth profession, unfortunately.

i have a habit of overdefending myself. old habits and all that. no one back home would call me either respectable or refined. i react badly.

alright, more important question. do you know blood magic? if not, are you willing to at least help me with my project? especially if you have any affinity towards enchantments.

Rest assured I have a baseline level of respect for all wizards, even those I disagree with. The Art is most difficult to master, so I respect anyone who dedicates their lives to it. As for your question-- most of what I know of hemocraft is tied to the school of necromancy. Considered unsavory by many, though I try not to pass so swift a judgment. When you say enchantment, do you mean the influence of sentient will to beguile and entrance or the infusion of magicks into inanima?

i'm told i brag, and am too full of myself and inevitably someone, somewhere frowns at it but honestly; it's never been hard for me.

we don't have any followers of rathma on board, so necromancy is out.

the latter. i can do enchantments but i haven't done blood magic. it's tied to demons back home, intrinsically so, and i'm far too good for them so i haven't had an opportunity to study it.

Well, I'd be an awful quartermaster if I couldn't make the items I've been enlisted to provide. I call it artifice. Scrolls and alchemical precipitates are elementary products of the practice. Talismans, such as magical weapons and armor and rings and the like require a lot more time and money to create. I'm not entirely sure how I'll go about those yet, but I figure scrolls and elixirs will be plenty for now.

Gale of Waterdeep. That's a fancy name.

What's the Weave?

Stately, but not ostentatious. Waterdeep is also called the City of Splendors, though I simply call it home. Or did, rather. I suppose that's all a bit complicated now, isn't it?

It's a little ostentatious, but I like it. The City of Splendors sounds highly fancy.

I suppose the Weave is a topic for another day, Gale of Waterdeep?

The demands of tradition, I'm afraid. An archmage abandons their given surname and replaces it with an epithet to denote their dedication to their city. Like a raw gem, Waterdeep has its stunning facets and its sharp, unforgiving edges. Thankfully my tower is decidedly the former and not at all the latter. I'd certainly be a lousy archmage if I couldn't conjure comfort in my own home!

The Weave is a topic for an entire day or, more accurately, an immortal lifetime of study. Alas, I am but merely mortal, and I try and answer one question at a time. A byproduct of strict academia, unfortunately. Also...this method of communication requires some getting used to.

I agree. Texting took a while for me to master, and even now I still throw the phone they gave me. I wasn't raised with technology, but some of my friends thought it would be for the best if we kept in touch with those of us who lead more complicated lives. Phones are faster than owls, or so they say.

I'm a witch, but my power comes from me and is channeled with a wand. We don't rely on anything like the Weave. I hope that you can find a way to continue to use your magic here - assuming it isn't something physical that you have to be near?

I think there's something quite sophisticated about correspondence via owl! I have a tressym, a fey winged cat of sorts, who will sometimes deliver my letters. I quite like the idea of not being available at the drop of a hat. There's a certain romance and excitement to eagerly awaiting a letter, ripping it open, and replying by candlelight. I'm quite curious about your brand of power-- witchery? Witchcraft? What do you call it?

If I manage to find one of our owls on board I promise to bring it by to you so that you can study it. They're obedient for us, but I'm not sure how they'd do for others. At school, we were permitted to have them as pets but most students used the owlery; I appreciated that, as they can be messy creatures.

It's... Magic. I don't really know how to classify it beyond that. Most of us use our wands, some can do non-verbal magic. We aren't limited by schools of magic, or elements, things like that. It's almost as if the possibilities are endless, but some people do have an affinity for certain spells and things like that.

Curiosity in scholarship is to be encouraged! Albeit from a safe distance. It does get a bit dicey when the fireballs start flying. Not that I expect to be hurling fire so often, but discretion is the better part of valor. Some poet wrote that, to be sure.

Oh, totally. Friendly fire is not something we need to introduce here. Safe distance it is.

I'm Eddie of Hawkins. AHHH Bard by trade, recently questing through the Upside Down. You are very well met.

You must have tales of daring danger and dashing adventure, Sir Eddie, and I would quite like to hear them! I admire the collegiate musicale greatly. I've seen song and story put to rest just as many a conflict as blades and spells. I have a few associates who are graduates of the College of New Olamn-- fine scholars, minstrels, and magicians, all. And rather charming, which is certainly not least among a bard's common qualifications.
