Booo, my comment on the FAQ got deleted. I will repeat the most important bit here:

There is a thing called Godwin's Law. The short of it is that comparing any situation to the Holocaust, or comparing any person or group of people to Hitler and/or Nazis, means that you automatically lose whatever discussion is taking place. Because unless there is actual genocide of actual real people happening, you are wrong. Co-opting names and dates to add "weight" and "meaning" to your fictional game is cheap, stupid, and disrespectful.

Also I've lost track of who said it but I agreed and it's worth saying again: it's also very unoriginal of you, and if you feel that this sort of thing is the only way to make your bad guy believably evil and scary, then that's not a reason to use historical events as a game premise- that's a reason to work on your writing abilities.

Addendum:

I'm still kind of mentally reeling at the fact that waay upthread, someone gave you guys the chance to rename the community for free and you turned it down. Why? Is it really that vital that you keep that exact name? Would you guys really rather be childish, stubborn to the point of pigheadedness, and massively offensive in the process, rather than accept that your name really does hurt people and you should maybe just suck it up and find a new one?

It shouldn't be that important to be right, especially when this is so easily fixed.

Perhaps if they ignore us, we will go away. After all, the mods and members of the community have been telling us over and over again in this thread that if we object or are offended, all we have to do is ignore the comm and the problem is solved.
I guess they just don't want to have to reply to people who are telling them that co-opting the fucking HOLOCAUST for a goddamned ROLE PLAYING GAME isn't OMG AWESOME and ORIGINAL, that in fact it is one of the more horrible things I've seen this week and makes me despair for the future. But I'm sure that objecting to the trivializing of genocide is yet another extremist position, and I'm rude and mean for even mentioning it.

I was hoping the actual moderators of the community would be a little more mature about this than marieantoinette has been, but apparently that's unlikely. I guess it's really much easier to just go "ZOMG EXTREMISTS, y r u sooo mean??? they just don't understand how clever and unique we are!" and dismiss us as haters, and move on. gross.

I really wish these people could have realized that, as someone else so aptly put it, when a bunch of people tell you your ass is in the breeze, you put on some pants.
