If everyone knew 1984 was when everything was going to happen, why was no one prepared?
Hexennacht is an alternate universe MWPP game set in 1985; a world where Gellert Grindelwald is now the Minister of Magic for all of Europe, and Muggleborn wizards live in fear of the Black Caps, Grindelwald's personal army, charged with keeping the Muggles and wizards alike in line. Hexennacht begins with the latest decree restricting magic allowed by Muggleborn wizards to the simplest forms of magic, while the purebloods are allowed to get away with murder. With the Death Eaters on the run, Voldemort in Azkaban with no hope of getting out, and the Order in hiding, along with the remains of their single ally, a former terrorist organization, is there any hope of restoring Europe to a land of tolerance?

In return, thank you for giving me a well-reasoned comment back. :) I'm always hesitant about jumping into this sort of thing, but I did want to give my opinion. I really do think the other comments aren't fuelled out of spite so much as hurt, though I can understand how they may come across that way - it isn't an event people can easily feel rational about.
this is based around a fictional war with the theory of what would have happened if this singular person took power, from the writer's words on the character's background.
I think part of the offense lies in that your RPG is about a fictional war, and Kristallnacht is still a very raw and painful reality of war for many people. I can see how you're trying to relate the events of the RPG to wider themes and the ideas JKR used, which is an admirable aim in fiction, but I don't agree that the name was necessary to that. Still, as you said it is your game - but I do think some of the concerns people have are valid too.
I don't really see how this can all be diffused, but perhaps a disclaimer or explanation about the name would be worth adding? Or an opportunity to suggest other names that have RL meaning, without the same emotional baggage, if you want to go that route.

Yeah, I agree. I don't think they aren't valid. Everyone has a right to their feelings and opinions. And I do understand why some people are offended, even if I wouldn't be. I only react in the way that a response is given. If it's aimed towards a remark to anger back or to elevate the situation, I just have indifference to it. Personal coping method. So, rationality is a good thing, in terms with talking to me.
I don't think there is a resolution to all of this, because both sides are so headstrong. I think we have a disclaimer, but for most of these people, it doesn't matter to them. Any name we pick would hurt someone, when it came to connecting RL and fiction. But, I'll pass this over to the mods.
