Spente Le Stelle (Mario/Rosalina) PG
Title: Spente Le Stelle
Author: Cecaelia
Fandom: Super Mario Galaxy
Rating: PG
Warnings: almost toothache-sweet fluffy--not much sizzle, sorry. It’s also het.
Word count: 285 or thereabouts.
Summary: Mario couldn't stand to see a pretty girl cry.
A/N: This was really fun. ^_^ Mario Galaxy etc. etc. property of Nintendo; any and all errors are my own.
Prompt: Mario/Rosalina – comfort – “It gets so lonely here, sometimes, with just the Lumas.”

There was no ‘night’ in space, but the hour was late and narrow. Even Polari had flitted off to rest.

Rosalina was alone. She’d been alone for a long time. How long was hard to say. Time was different for her, for the Lumas. For her best friends in the universe, those tiny sparkling stars that looked to her for love and guidance, time was slow and strange.

She had their devotion, their affection. But it wasn’t always enough. Until a little while ago, she hadn’t seen another person in what must have been years and years. Until she met Mario.

It hadn’t hurt until she met him. But he was so spirited and...and he was just like...Mother used to tell her stories about girls with long golden hair who lived alone in towers until brave knights came for them. And Mario was very, very brave.

“It gets so lonely here, sometimes, with just the Lumas.” Her cheeks flushed as she said it. Then she paled. “I—I mean…” Rosalina’s shoulders sagged.

She could barely remember how it felt to be held.

“Are you okay?” Mario wasn’t sure what else to ask. Her eyes were huge and blue, sparkling with tears.

“I just—“ Rosalina’s arms stretched out, graceful as wings, reaching, and then she stopped herself.

Mario smiled, a little sadly. After years of pipes and pits and castles, he knew a lot about being lonely, too.

“It’s alright,” he said, taking her hand in his. “Don’t cry. I’m here.”

She rocked against him, trembling. “I’m sorry,” she murmured, “that you had to see…”

He pressed gloved fingers to her lips. “Shh.”

Mario held her close and stretched up on tiptoe. Rosalina giggled.

His mustache was tickly.
