We have created an official FaceBook page that will be used to mirror our twitter account for status updated etc. This is yet another great offsite location to let everyone know what is going on when we have any kind of downtime
Become a fan of InsaneJournal at http://www.facebook.com/pages/InsaneJour nal so you can get our status updates added to your feed.
And just as a reminder, here is the official IJ twitter account http://twitter.com/insanejournal

A mirror reflecting nothing is a useless mirror. Can you instead resolve that the first thing you do when you become aware of an IJ problem is to tweet that you know about it? I don't see any point in creating another networking account to get the same lack of information.
If you visit the IJ twitter page, you will see many status updates related to any outages that the site has experienced recently.
Possibly you update it after the fact, but what's the use of that?
If there is a load issue on the site and I am never notified of it, then I cannot fix it nor can I post about it. And a lot of times any load problems sort themselves out after a few minutes without any interaction by me
Also, I have not been made aware of any downtime, other than the daily site backup time in the past month or two. And even that has been noted in the twitter feed.
ANY website will 404 occasionally. But when there's a sitewide error that affects all users for a half hour or more? He pretty much always updates the Twitter during the outage and after it's resolved. The only clear exception I can think of is the daily database backups, which is because he's already clearly stated that they happen at 2:30pm EST every day.
