Narrative: Iceman and Ronnie Drake
Who: Bobby and Ronnie Drake
Where: Bobby's Room
When: May 29, 2008 - early morning
What: Ronnie calls Bobby quite early in the morning on his cell phone to make certain that Bobby forgot about their mother's birthday so he, Ronnie, could once again come out on top as the better Drake son.
Bobby wasn't even sure what time the clock read when he heard the catchy ring tone on his cell phone. It was something sugary and pop-sounding, and he assumed Jubilee had gotten a hold of his phone, and changed it. Groping around on his nightstand, Bobby glanced at the front screen with squinting eyes. Immediately he sat up, still staring at the screen. He suddenly felt more awake than he had just a few moments ago.
Flipping it open, he hesitated, before placing the phone to his ear.
"Hello?"
"...It's Mom's birthday, you know."
There was a moment of silence on both ends; the Drake brothers contemplating what to say next. Bobby hadn't heard, or seen, Ronnie since he had been held prisoner with Rogue and John. The last time he had seen his younger brother, Ronnie had shot him.
"...Yeah. It is."
"Did you get her a card?"
There was another long wave of silence. Bobby rubbed at his eyes, trying to figure out the purpose behind the call. Was his brother really calling to simply be informative to his forgetful older brother, or were they trying to trace where he was?
"Yeah. Yeah, I got her a card. Why?"
"Did you sign it from both of us?"
"Ronnie, come on. Is this the only reason why you called me at..." Bobby paused, glancing at his alarm clock and frowned. "...Four in the morning?"
"Did you sign it from both of us or not?"
"No. I didn't. I didn't even send her a card. I forgot it was her birthday. Happy?"
Was he laughing? He was. Ronnie was laughing, and Bobby frowned at the phone.
"I knew you'd forget. I always had to remind you about her birthday. Dad's, too. You never forgot mine, though. Just theirs. Well, I sent her a card. And I'll send Dad a card, too, on his birthday."
And then there was silence followed by a sudden click.
Bobby closed his phone and stared at it for a moment. Shaking his head, he placed it back on his nightstand, and sunk back down against the pillows to try and get back to sleep.
