Who: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley
Where: Their flat
When: Christmas afternoon, before the Weasley dinner
What: Exchanging gifts, just the three of them
Status: In progress
The Weasley family Christmas dinner was tonight, and try as he might, Harry couldn't seem to relax about it. Sure, it had been five years, but even though they had done the Christmas dinner five times since he'd broken up with Ginny, he still felt awkward when surrounded by them. They were still so welcoming, just like when he had been eleven and freshly introduced to the wizarding world. Then, too, they had welcomed him with open arms. Only, wasn't it different now? Having been with Ginny and rejected her, why weren't they... upset? That was, assuming that they weren't, which was a notion that they seemed intent on pushing on him, but of which he was not convinced.
His red jumper on his lap, Harry was sitting on the sofa staring right through the small Christmas tree they had set up in the sitting room, a few gifts set on the ground around it. Already, he could see just how dinner would go, and it was going to be awful. Filled with awkward silences, strange looks of a woman plotting her daughter's wedding without either of the 'marrying' parties being aware of it, and exaggerated happiness at seeing him arrive. Surely they couldn't be that happy to see him. And yet every year...
He was getting ahead of himself. He knew it, and shook his head to break his focus on the scenario.
Approaching footsteps further convinced him to put that behind him. Or ahead of him, really. He'd find out how it would go soon enough, wouldn't he?
"Hey." He wasn't sure who was coming just yet, but the greeting worked for either possibility. Harry picked up his jumper to take another look at it again. "I wish she'd make me a blue one, one day," he said, changing the subject before it was even broached.
