“Ron, if you would like I would be happy to return this gift and get you a book instead,” Hermione said, her voice a little flat as she raised a brow. Yes, she read a great deal. And yes, she had given Ron and Harry their fair share of books over the years. But usually the books had a very, very good point or reason for being given. After all, if Ron didn’t read Hogwarts a History how on Earth could be really send a child off to school one day? Because Hermione had no doubt that Ron would be a father one day. It seemed almost wrong that he wouldn’t with his family history.
But she passed over the large, heavy box that she’d wrapped carefully two nights before. Finding Ron a gift that was totally asexual in nature had been difficult, in particular after she decided that no, she could not get Ronald a book. Even if he really should have read that one of English wizarding families already.
“Happy Christmas, Ron,” she said, handing over the large chess board. It was from a muggle shop, but charming it to have wizarding chess pieces had been simple enough for Hermione. Being clever had it's advantages.
