JEEEEEEEAAAAAAN!
Howdy, y'all! Amanda here, showing yet again how very weak I am. Sigh.

For your consideration, I present Ms. Jean Grey, played by the lovely Sophia Bush. You can find her full bio here, but here's a brief rundown. She turned 29 last month, she likes to cook, and she and Scott are meant to be, yo. Since Movieverse!Jean didn't really have much of a personality (to go along with her equally personality-less boyfriend), the only thing I've really kept from that incarnation is that she's on the school's medical staff. She's not a surgeon or anything so if you get that effed up she's hauling your clumsy ass to the hospital, but she's good with mild injuries, common illnesses, checkups, that kind of thing.

That said, Jean is friendly, soft spoken, levelheaded, and more than a little bit of a den mother. As one of the older residents at the school, she's more or less taken on the role of surrogate mom to the younger kids and big sister to the older ones. If you ever need extra help outside of class, she'll be happy to accommodate you; likewise, if you need an extra person to fill out your bowling team, she could probably be talked into that, too. She's often the one who has to scold students (okay, and the occasional coworker) who get too rowdy, so some of the students probably think she's as much of a stick-in-the-mud as SCOOOOOOOTTTTTTT! Scott. Really, though, Jean's just a peacemaker and she likes to maintain that peace. She's not a total buzzkill, however, as she loves to have fun and just be silly now and then, regardless of how much of an authority figure she's supposed to be. She takes her job seriously, but she plays hard, too. So, yeah. Just remember that.

As for plot ideas and potential scenes, obviously anything with Scott would be appreciated. Scenes with Alex, plz? She hates that he and Scott don't get along well (her sister's her best friend! Why can't Scott and Alex act that way?), so now and then she takes it upon herself to play mediator between them. But she also genuinely likes Alex in his own right, too, so she wants to hang out with him sometimes.

She and Betsy, I think, could get along marvelously. They're both former models (except Jean's totally jealous starstruck because Betsy got to do all the awesome couture stuff) and they're both telepaths. And, as I pointed out in her bio, they both have great hair! Yeah. Totally a bonding point.

Would be pretty awesome if she worked with Julian on his telekinesis (and really, where's he gonna find a better teacher?), and if she just so happens to steal one of Emma's prized students from her, well, so be it. :P

Ideas? Thoughts? Let me know!

I'm excited to see how Jean and Emma play out. I feel like it could go a thousand different ways and they'll all be entertaining ... as well as lead to disaster.

Very true on Sam and his family protectiveness. I guess it felt weird to type out just because off all the "yay Jean is so nice and sweet" followed up with "HOW COULD YOU...!" Luckily Sam of all people holding a grudge or resentment doesn't ultimately mean much and he'd try to make amends if he crossed a line, but he'd still feel like he should know. Clearly he is Lucinda Guthrie when she's not actually around to play ma.

Also, Bobby would like to retroactively apologize for making Jean hang with him when he was infirmary bound when he got shot in the head a few months ago. Because I imagine her and Hank got him yammering in their ears and following them everywhere. Not to mention begging to be free from observation or get more ice cream.

Sofia would love it. Of course, she'd love it even if Logan took her for mani-pedis, but that's for completely different reasons. She has a really positive view of all the teaching staff given her limited encounters and loves living at the mansion with them. She doesn't even understand what the fuss about Emma is all about. "Look how perfectly ironed her suits are!" As for dancing in public, Sofia thinks it's silly to have such inhibitions. Sofia might be worse than the Hellfire Club in getting Jean to throw her checks and balances out the door on her desires.

I wanna see Jean try a "kill her with kindness" approach to Emma. For a while, anyway, before the claws come out. Epic.

hahaha aw, poor Sam. But it's understandable. I mean, Jean would probably be surprised (as surprised as a good telepath ever is, I guess) but she wouldn't hold a grudge against him or anything, since she can understand where he's coming from. BUT. She'd also make it a point to try to get him to understand that he needs to do the same for her. Jay confides in her because she's the school counselor, yes, but she's also not related to him and not in a position to judge him, so he probably feels more comfortable talking to her than he would even his own family. If he says or does something to upset her, not a huge deal, she's just a teacher, right? But if he says or does something to mess up his family dynamics, then that's something he's going to have to live with for a long time. So yeah, basically I think Jean will simultaneously try to reassure Sam that there really are some things families can't share, and at the same time tell him that she's keeping an eye on Jay and he should really relax a little before that vein in his neck explodes. ;)

bwahaha no worries. I imagine Jean fussed over Bobby lyke wo at first, but quickly grew tired of his annoying little dog routine -- you know, the kind who have those shrill little yaps who never shut up and who stay right under your feet so you're always in danger of stepping on them and sometimes you really want to because oh my God they just won't shut up but you can't because they look up at you with those cute little faces and big eyes and you instantly feel guilty for ever thinking such a thing so you immediately buy their affections with treats and then do penance by pretending they don't really annoy you at all.

Yeah. Bobby's totally like that.

Jean's trying really hard to keep her thoughts to herself right now. "Yes, yes, her suits are perfectly ironed, just as flat and smooth as can be. But just like her face, they didn't get that way naturally."

And...and oh God, now I'm just imagining Sofia and Creepy Ass Wyngarde (seriously, I'm going to just start calling him that from now on) working their magic on Jean's poor psyche until she finally snaps and either turns into a power-hungry, merciless god or auditions for So You Think You Can Dance. As you do.

The kindness may not kill her but it'll certainly pain her a great deal, like sunlight to a vampire. The number of actions Emma might do against Jean out of spite may rise after that phase, much like she does with Raven but that's more due to her being One Suspicious Bitch.

When it comes to family, Sam definitely overreacts and finds ways to blame himself ultimately. Jay confiding in Jean, no matter how big the font is on her name plate that says "guidance counselor" still translates in his head as a failure for him to be an approachable brother. I imagine he'll mostly grumble and sulk accordingly than take it out on Jean ever, though. At least while he's still in his fumbling stage of life. There may be cartoon-like steam out the ears, though.

This Bobby example is completely true. At least to compensate for never shutting up he actually compliments her endlessly; sometimes without actually needing something!

Sofia is a great looking girl and likes to think so, but she'd totally admit up front that she'd totally want to have plastic surgery too when she got confirmation about Emma. Sofia's endless energy and intrigue unfortunately doesn't come with a lot of rationality. As for Wynstache, Sofia would ... probably be too distracted with the porn'stache and wanting to shave it for him. "May I? Please? You are ruining a good ruffled shirt look for nothing!"
