80s FicPic-alooza

Wow! This ficfest exceeded my expectations on so many levels.

The participation was fantastic for the first run. So, writers, thank you for all your hard work!

The fiction perverted some cherished childhood memories. It was nice to see some of the old fandoms rekindled again.

I have tagged and cataloged the entries and in the next couple weeks I will have a master list of what was written.

Do let me know what you all think of running another 80s writing fest in the future. If everyone is keen on making it happen, I am thinking about a September/October time-frame.

If you still have stories that you are planning on getting finished, please feel free to now post them here at will. I will catalog, tag and add them to the master list as they come in.

Hi everyone! How are the stories coming?

Not so good huh?

A little frustrated at IJ downtime? Did the lost servers randomly eat what you just posted?

How about that brain mush after work or school? Just can't manage a fic right then?

Well, NO WORRIES!!!

This asylum is about having fun and exploring fandoms long forgotten - challenging yourselves to write or draw something about one of your first loves.

The posting dates are just what we like to call guidelines. These dates are not set in stone, so if you miss your day to post DON'T STRESS on it! They are only there so that your flist doesn't get flooded all in one day with the masterpieces that are churned out from your warped minds. You can always post late and it will be no big deal! The world isn't going to implode just because your fic didn't get posted on the date it was supposed to be handed in.  We all have lives and we all understand the little hiccups that happen during those lives (Believe me, I had a few hiccups this morning. You know, it seems like when you finally get rid of the hiccups they to want to come back again that same day!)

It's up to you whether you take on the challenge you signed up for and we all know how a writer's mind can work...one day it's there and the next... nothing.

Have fun with this - that is the most important thing!

Posting begins this Thursday for those who claimed prompts.

Claiming will remain open for those who haven't.

All art and fic over 100 words must be behind cut tags.  Any fic that includes explicit material, character death, etc. must also be behind cut tags.

Writers and Artists - Start your claiming!


To claim a prompt:

1. Copy and paste the prompts for which you want to write or create art into a comment to this post. Please include the date and whether you are making a fic or art claim as well.

Example: May 30 - Looney Tunes, Elmer/Porky Pig: friendship – Bringing home the bacon

2. Each prompt can be claimed a total of six times (three for fic and three for art).

3. You are welcome to claim your own prompts.

4. Collaborations are welcome.

Please be patient with me as I note your claims. Claiming will be on a first comment first noted basis which I will note as soon as possible.

Writers and artists – these prompts are supposed to be challenging and fun. Interpret the prompts as you will but please keep the main elements the requester submitted. All fiction must be at least 100 words. Art claims can be in the medium of the artist's choice - we will accept icons, wallpapers, fanvids, drawings, painting, etc.

Posting instructions will be available around April 28th, but please feel free to start brainstorming or writing/creating as soon as you have your prompt.

Here is a prompt list sneak peek for all you writers/artists thinking about claims. We've had quite a turnout for our first session!

Please check the list over and let me know if you see any mistakes or if I have missed any prompts.

Leave your prompt requests in the comments following this format from the previous post.

Again, your prompt requests will be collected and organized into a Master List. When the master list is up and free of error, we will have a claiming session where you will be able to claim the prompts for which you want to write or draw art.

The Master List will be posted on April 10^th – 12^th  for public viewing to make sure that there are no errors (however, prompt requests will still be taken until April 13^th). 

Claiming will begin at 12:00 AM EST April 14^th  and we will accept claims until the first day of posting (12:01 AM EST, May 1^st).

Posting instructions will be posted around the end of the claiming session.

When you see the prompting post (at 12:00 AM EST):

1. In  a comment, submit your prompt request in the following format:

Fandom (spelled out – no abbreviations please):
Character/pairing/threesome or moresome:
Kink/cliché/fannish trope:
Phrase/word/idea/lyric to inspire:
Number (pick from 1 to 31 – day the finished work will appear):

Remember, your prompted fandom had to have been around (could have originated in the 70s but was still big in the 80s) or originated during the 80s – so anything up until 1989.  As long as it had one toe in the decade it’s fair game. 

2. If your prompt is for a crossover, please start with "Crossover, Fandom/Fandom," and then add pairing/prompt word/lyrics.

Examples:

The Dukes of Hazzard, Bo/Luke: brother-cest – Working at the car wash – 14

Looney Tunes, Elmer/Porky Pig: friendship – Bringing home the bacon – 30

80s Bands, Duran Duran, John Taylor/Simon Le Bon: BDSM – Let me show you how it’s done. – 27

We are allowing for the fandom of “80s Bands” for all you that would like band fic. Just use “80s Bands” for your fandom.

3. There is no limit on the number of prompts that you request.  Go wild!

Welcome!

Coming in April, you will be asked to submit prompts to the asylum.  There is no limit to the amount of prompts you can submit.  Submitting a prompt does not obligate you to participate - just be kind enough to read and leave a comment or two!

All prompts must be for fandoms that were around or originated from 1980-1989. Some examples include (but are not limited to):

The A-Team, Buck Rogers, Care Bears, Dragon Quest (originated in 1989), Dungeons and Dragons, Gatchaman, G.I. Joe, Gobots, He-Man, MacGyver, Misfits of Science, Pac-Man, Ranma 1/2, Robotech, Star Blazers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Terrahawks, Transformers, Urusei Yatsura, Voltron, etc.

After the prompting closes, all the prompts will be gathered and listed.

Then, a master list of prompts will be posted and you can sign up for any of the prompts by leaving a comment to the entry with your selections.  Each prompt can be claimed a total of six times - three for fic and three for art.

After you have your prompt in the bag, get a little creative!  All that is asked is that you write no less than 100 words and that you post your finished work on the day that it is due directly to the community.


Currently, the schedule looks like this:

Prompts will be accepted 12:00 AM EST April 1st until 11:59 PM EST April 13th
Claiming will begin 12:00 AM EST April 14 and will end at 11:59 PM EST April 30
Posting will be from May 1 thru May 31


Also, one request - this community will only be successful if we get enough prompt requests and writers and artists to submit work for those prompts.  So, please, if you know someone that might be interested...please pimp this community to them!
