WHO: Alcuin, Hermes, and Scott later on.
WHEN: Week 1, Sunday afternoon.
WHERE: Scott's Apartment.
WHAT: Hermes always looks after his friends and Alcuin could certainly use one.
RATING: R – because Hermes.
STATUS: Closed and in-progress.
Alcuin couldn't decide if the new curtains were an improvement, or if they merely emphasized how bare the red brick and mortar walls of their apartment really were. His master remained unfailingly optimistic as to the condition of the place – and for that he would be eternally grateful, at least – but he would be lying if he said he shared that optimism. A part of him realized that his urge to configure and reconfigure his master's furniture bordered on neuroses; it was just that the greater part of him was incapable of feeling much of anything at all. Mostly, he wondered if his master would eventually tire of his desire to pick up the pieces of his fractured life in the most tangible sense possible.
Especially when he stumbled over his own coffee table on the way to the bathroom in the middle of the night, frightening them both awake for an hour at least. Alcuin expected him to be furious, to lash out at him for disrupting his daily rituals like he knew another master eventually would, but he never did. He just smiled, sheepish and a little bit embarrassed, and went on about his business.
As the curtains billowed out around him, he wondered how much of it was pity.
The apartment did look a little nicer for it, though. It was certainly spacious enough to do whatever they liked and the windows loomed just large enough to let in the sunlight throughout most of the day. Out of everything, he enjoyed the fresh air the most and spent most, if not all of his free time, sitting beneath the windows with his master's collection of textbooks. Before, he learned about ancient civilizations and the runic alphabet; now, he learned about animal bones and lagomorphs. A fair trade, he reckoned.
